Previous to our participation in the Bowery Babes Easter Egg Hunt, the closest I ever came to Easter was begging my mom for chocolate bunnies at the drugstore as a kid. The bunnies were always hollow, which never ceased to surprise and disappoint. Or stop me from begging again the following year.
We are Jewish, in case you are not already aware, and although we have pictures of Mazzy destroying a piece of matzah, grimacing at charoset and crying with boredom during the sedar, showcasing our Easter pictures seemed a lot more fun. Or at least more colorful. Passover is always very very biege.
Why else was this day different from all other days?
Usually, I’m the one with the camera. Which means we’ve got lots of shots of Mazzy. A few of my husband. And NONE of me. On rare occasions, Mike strips me of my photo-taking duties and takes it on himself. He says the reason he doesn’t do it more often is because I ask to see each picture after it’s taken and then I make “a face”.
But since it was Easter and we were on our first official egg hunt (that didn’t involve finding a brunch place at noon on a Sunday in downtown Manhattan without a forty minute wait), I let Mike document while I fully participated in the festivities with my baby girl.
I even kept my “faces” to myself.
Mike’s Photo Documentary: “Egg Hunt In The City” starring Mazzy, myself and her good friends, Ella and Carson:
“Bunnies? Candy? Let’s DO THIS THING!”
“WAIT. So you expect me to dive into that dirty swamp to retrieve a couple of fake plastic eggs? This was not my understanding of the event.”
“Alright, if this is all really going to go down, I’m gonna need something to put these things in. What do you mean you don’t have a basket? MOM!!!! Sometimes you are so JEWISH.”
“Mazzy! Would you like to put your eggs in my basket?”
“Nope. I’ve got this thing figured out.”
“Quiet! Nobody move! My super egg-sensing powers tell me there is a red one to my right.”
“Hmmm. These eggs don’t look biodegradable. Please make sure you throw them in the appropriate trash bin.”
“MOM! Don’t just stand there! There’s an egg underneath that dirty newspaper! And one inside that unconscious guy’s shoe…”
“This is so much better than looking for a big tasteless cracker wrapped in a napkin.”
“I’ve looked everywhere besides up your nose. You mind checking it out for me?”
“Mother. You mean to tell meโ you had me picking through NYC garbage for eggs, when all the while there was a perfectly lovely spread offering snacks? The lengths you grown-ups go to for photo-taking opportunities…”
And just to show-off more of my husband’s camera skills, below is Ella looking cute as ever. (I’ve given her a bum rap but we are on better terms now.)
And here is Mazzy showing off the drool that killed my iPhone.
Whaddaya think? How’d the husband do?
Grammy deserves a nice trip to the spa!
What would be do without our moms? Tell her how much you appreciate her. And let her decide on either a getaway/spa/lunch whatever that makes her happy.
I would buy Grammy a nice new set of sheets.
Spa Day!
You should get your mom either a spa gift certificate or spend some time with her sans kids for some quality mother daughter time.
What is your Grammy’s love language? Does she like to receive gifts, or maybe just saying thank you? Or you could clean her house? Just depends – you know her best! Regardless, she was an awesome Grammy for taking care of sick Harlow!!! Grammy’s are the best!
Grammy deserves something relaxing- mani/pedi, massage, yoga class pack.
Grammy definitely deserves flowers and a spa day.
Dont know about NY, but here in Italy We have “smartbox s” which range from aperitivi to dinners to weekends away. You choose according to your budget and then the receiver decides where to use it from the affiliated restaurants / hotels listed inside the box. We got one for all my sons teachers this past Xmas and they loved it !
A day at the spa!
Definitely have Harlow send her something she has made herself as a thank you for taking such good care of her while mommy and daddy were gone. Maybe a Harlow drawing of Grammy snuggling with her? And I agree with some of the other posters about getting Grammy a nice relaxing gift…depending on what she likes…a day at the spa, a weekend away (although that could get really expensive), a dinner at a nice restaurant she may not have gone to otherwise…etc. If she is anything like my mom though, just a big hug and thank you will suffice…it wouldn’t for me and my guilty complex, but for her it would. ๐
Props to Grammy for being such a champ! If it were me, I’d plan a kid-free day, just the two of you. Maybe brunch and a movie. Actually, that’s what I am doing for my mom for her birthday. Much as she loves spending time with my daughter, I know she sometimes likes to spend time with HER daughter (me!). It will give us a chance to eat food while it is still hot and see a movie with live-action human characters who don’t sing! And if you mom is anything like my mom, she is sort of over the “stuff” phase of her life. She’d prefer go out and do something and make a memory, rather than end up with something else that will collect dust. Plus, who else is gonna take her to see My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2? ๐
I think a day at the spa for you and Grammy would be a perfect thank you for her and would give you guys some time to bond more
I vote spa day for Grammy! Can’t go wrong with some much needed pampering after a rough week of not feeling good and taking care of a sick little one.
I would say give gramma a nice day at the spa so she can relax. Taking care of sick kiddos is a lot of work!
Awwww, so little! Hm…to thank Grammy, I’d take her out for a day, one on one. As much as she loves her grandkids, she still wants to me a mom to you.
Maybe a special Grammy Swag bag?! Some of her favorite things she would enjoy and then include a special thank you note from Harlow for taking good care of her. ๐
I like the lunch/dinner date idea with just the two of you, but you should also surprise her with a special photo. For my last big thank you, I printed a sweet pic on a canvas wrapped frame of our Grans and my daughter holding hands on their favorite walk. She loved it!
I’m sure grammy would like a spa gift certificate.
I would get Grammy either a gift certificate to her favorite restaurant or get her a message. Something that is special specifically to her
I think Grammy could use a gift card for a day at the spa, glad to hear they are all feeling better!
How about a pedicure for grandma?
Flowers? Who doesn’t like flower?
Sending flowers is always a nice way to brighten the day! I’d also think about sending a book she’s been wanting to read, or have her favorite takeout delivered (or both!) That way she can have a relaxing evening w/ no worries about dinner.
I was distracted by little Mazzy’s cuteness! I think you should frame some of the girls’ artwork or something else like you did with the chocolate kiss campaign. She would love something that comes from your girls, I’m sure. I have a hard time with coming up with ways to thank the grand parents in our lives, too!
I think Grammy deserves a nice relaxing spa day!
Yeah, Gramny! She’s a toral rockstar. In my experience, Grammies like to spend time with their kids and grandkids. I think a nice dinner (either just the two of you or with the kids) would be nice.
Grammy deserves a gift certificate for a relaxing massage or mani/pedi.
I’d say something to pamper Grammy. Could be simple like her favourite bath products, or something more extravagant like a day at the spa.
I’d LOVE to win the March 2016 swag bag. My 3-year-old and I would have lots of fun with it ๐ And we love your social media activity too!
Grammy needs a day at the spa- massage and mani-pedi. Maybe you could leave the girls at home and go with her!
Grandparents always love those photo mugs with lots of grandbaby pictures. Maybe that and some coffee and/or tea.
My vote is for a massage gift certificate!
You should give Grammy a gift certificate for a spa day ๐
I think you should get Grammy a manicure or pedicure. Some sort of pampering.
Grannies (at least my mum) dont expect anything but I always feel guilty putting her through our dramas and do something nice in return
1. Spa certificate for a massage or mani/pedi – if she’s into such things
2. Dinner for two at a fancy restaurant
3. A good bottle of wine if she likes them
4. Photo or picture book of time grammy spent with your two adorable girls (esp Harlow since she was the one sick)
5. Girls day out with just grammy and mommy (you)?
That’s one great Grammy! How about a nice massage package?
A thank you for taking care of me card from Harlow and a gift certificate for some pampering (mani/pedi, spa day, blow out, wine tasting, etc). Think just knowing she’s appreciated and loved would make her day ๐
Grammy earned a pedicure, for sure!
A 5 reasons why I love you card…number 1 could be taking care of me when I’m sick. A beautiful spring bouquet, a bottle of wine and a scheduled girls day out with activities Grammy likes.
At first I thought a massage would be a great way to thank your mom but now I’m thinking a day for the two of you to be together, doing things she likes. Maybe a massage isn’t her way of relaxing, so do what she loves, maybe it’s catching a movie or a play and going to her favorite lunch / dinner spot. Maybe she’d love to have her house cleaned while you go out. Whatever she’s into, do that but spend time w her. ๐
Look how little Mazzy was! This is when I first started following!!
Grandparents are saviors. A cute, easy gift I recently got my mom was a throw pillow with a picture of her and my daughter, and a short saying about grandma’s:
“Grandma holds our tiny hands for a little white, but our hearts forever”.
Great small gift in time for spring decorating!
First off, can I just say how cute Mazzy is here– such a sweet little nugget!! ๐
And secondly, for the thank you for Grandma – I would get her either a mani-pedi or massage. To make it even better, do it together for some one-on-one time. And have the girls make a pretty card for her.
Send her on a nice spa day with one of her friends! A little R&R is a great way to say thank you!
I’ve recently been gifted a personalized photo pillow and I love it.
My mom really likes homemade gifts. Last year for her birthday I had my son tell me 15 things he likes about her then we wrote them up nicely and put them all in a mason jar. Maybe something homemade for Grammy that tells her all the things your kids love about her.
I think she deserves chocolate, wine, and jewelry for getting to be on sick kid duty!
I was going to say Grammy needs a massage, but then I saw all these suggestions of spa days and that’s much more appropriate! I hope I haven’t been under thanking my own mom all this time! ????
The above Easter Egg Hunt looks so much more civil than the one I attended this past weekend!
Our Grammy can afford to buy herself whatever she wants, so one thing we have started doing is giving our Grammy gift cards towards vacations, so a $50-$100 towards a weekend in a swanky bed and breakfast or hotel resort. It gives her something exciting to look forward to and doesn’t break our bank and by the time a year is up she has helped us so much we have given her a fully paid trip.
Grammy needs a grown up girls weekend cruise. It’s a gift that benefits you and Grammy!
Maybe a relaxing massage or mani/pedi (or both…)!
Aww look at little Mazzy! I think you should treat grammy to a nice dinner.
Make a generational hand print on clay of all of you. She would have to be present but when it’s done, you can present it to her with a handwritten thank you note and a bottle of wine. You could also add an inscription on front or back with something along the lines “hands no matter how big or small, we will always care for each other” or something like that. Your hood with words, so I know you can think of something!
All my mom wants us more gear with grandchildren pics–tote bags, phone covers, mouse pads, mugs….would Grammy be interested in something like that?
Grammy deserves a gift box from Zingerman’s deli in Ann Arbor!
You should give Grammy a day or two in a hotel spa, so she can receive massages, beautty treatments, relax, read, have a lovely meal and stuff like that! Maybe you can go with her to make sure she gets a perfect attention!
Grammy would love some one-on-one time with her daughter(s)! Maybe a nice brunch? I’m sure she’d love a card from Harlow, too.
A fun homemade basket filled with healthy snacks, things she likes and a gift for a pedicure!
Buy Grammy some ginger ale! You know, for next time
Does Grammy like spa? I think a massage, etc. would be in order!
A massage!
I think you should have the girls customize a mug for Grammy… or even a wine glass if you’re feeling crazy! Not sure about your Grammy, but my Grammy loves her wine ๐
Send Grammy away for a “spa day” or something along those lines to help her get back to 100% … I know I would love a day of relaxation after I’ve been miserably sick.
A spa day or a special locket from Southhill maybe – or both!
Chatbooks! I got my parents a customized one with just pictures of them and the kids and the tears were flowing. Hahaha
Id say a nice girls weekend/day, maybe just her and you and your sister : )
Grammy deserves a massage!!! Who doesn’t love a massage??
We love to send Grammy a simple bouquet of flowers when she goes above and beyond!
Grandma deserves everything! A hand-made card from Harlow and a bouquet of the month subscription from a local florist, if they offer it.
I think Grammy deserves a really nice bottle of wine.
Get the girls to make thank you cards with a picture of the whole family on it and add some home grown flowers from your garden at the house. Sometimes the simple things are the most value. ????
Mazzy was the cutest baby!
It suppose it depends on what Grammy likes. A new book, basket full of bath stuff, a plant, gift certificate to an activity she’d enjoy.
Hi, I think that you should have Harlow make her a card saying thank you and get her a gift card for something she loves or maybe take her out to eat at her favorite restaurant.
A day at the spa!!
I’m sure grammy will appreciate a mother/daughter day/night out.????
I think a hand-made gift from Harlow and Mazzy too (since she got to have some special time with you and Mike because Grammy babysat). Then maybe a gift certificate to her fave spa or restaurant:)
Spa day for Grammy!
Well, everyone has my idea, but there isn’t a woman alive who doesn’t love a good facial! Take that woman to lunch and to the spa.
First, I love a reason to go back and see old photos! I would say a date to get pedicures ๐
Grammy deserves a day at the spa-but only if you join with her. What better way to say thanks to your mom then to give her your undivided attention??
A girls night with you and here, dinner and drinks and a delicious dessert!
It sounds like Grammy needs a massage and a facial at her favorite spa!
Something sentimental and something relaxing – maybe a special craft from Harlow and gift card for a massage. I know my son’s Grammy would be thankful for that or any gift you give her (I’m sure your Grammy would too).
Can never go wrong with chocolate.
Grammy deserves a day at the spa! Massage, facials, nails, everything! Especially since she got sick too!
There’s a new app, I can’t remember what its called, you pick out five pictures each month and it prints and sends them to two different addresses. That would be a great thank you gift for Grammie. Plus you get pictures too!
A spa day and a hand made “Thank You” card from Harlow!
Give Grammy a massage or a day at the spa!
Grammy swag bag with a photo album and a trip for a pedicure!
Maybe a mani/pedi date with you followed by a delish brunch would make her feel special.
Grammy definitely needs a spa day after her week with Harlow!
Oh my gosh baby Mazzy! So cute! ๐ I would get Grammy a spa day! Massage, facial, mani/pedi… the works ๐
I would give Grammy a spa day!
You and the girls could do like a spa day at home for Grammy and then take her to dinner. Bubble bath/bath bomb, nails ect.
It’s baby Mazzy! She was so adorable at that age. I need to go back and look at some of your older posts again just to see that cute face sometimes, not that she isn’t a lovely now, but awwwwww…baby cheeks. Feel the same way about my now 7-year-old daughter when I get my daily “1 year ago” notification from Amazon….
Anyhow, since Grammy took such good care of Harlow, you should find a way to take good care of her. Maybe get one of those Blue Apron meals and have the girls help make Grammy dinner, then treat her to a “fancy” sit-down. Something to treat her as a thank you. I know that is what my mother would like way better than anything I could buy.
wine always works best with my mom!
Well I thought my spa day idea would set me apart from the rest but apparently it wasn’t as original as I thought.
I don’t think that you need to buy anything to say thank you to Grammy. Maybe just spending time with her (with or without the kids)?
Grab some lunch and go see a movie with her. She’ll appreciate the time more than the money spent.
All of our Grammies were thrilled with personalized coffee mugs (from Shutterfly or elsewhere) with grandkid pics and “we love Grammy!” on them! Stainless steel and perfect for Grammies on the go!
Any sort of pampering gift certificate! Every woman needs to take time to care for herself but so rarely does. Send her for a fancy facial or a mani-pedi combo – she’ll look and feel great (and so will you!)
Grammy definitely deserves a nice homemade gift from Harlow and Mazzy (you can make footprint butterflies with their fingers as the bodies) and a gift card for lunch or a spa day. And maybe a “sick day care package” from just Harlow ๐
