Previous to our participation in the Bowery Babes Easter Egg Hunt, the closest I ever came to Easter was begging my mom for chocolate bunnies at the drugstore as a kid. The bunnies were always hollow, which never ceased to surprise and disappoint. Or stop me from begging again the following year.
We are Jewish, in case you are not already aware, and although we have pictures of Mazzy destroying a piece of matzah, grimacing at charoset and crying with boredom during the sedar, showcasing our Easter pictures seemed a lot more fun. Or at least more colorful. Passover is always very very biege.
Why else was this day different from all other days?
Usually, I’m the one with the camera. Which means we’ve got lots of shots of Mazzy. A few of my husband. And NONE of me. On rare occasions, Mike strips me of my photo-taking duties and takes it on himself. He says the reason he doesn’t do it more often is because I ask to see each picture after it’s taken and then I make “a face”.
But since it was Easter and we were on our first official egg hunt (that didn’t involve finding a brunch place at noon on a Sunday in downtown Manhattan without a forty minute wait), I let Mike document while I fully participated in the festivities with my baby girl.
I even kept my “faces” to myself.
Mike’s Photo Documentary: “Egg Hunt In The City” starring Mazzy, myself and her good friends, Ella and Carson:
“Bunnies? Candy? Let’s DO THIS THING!”
“WAIT. So you expect me to dive into that dirty swamp to retrieve a couple of fake plastic eggs? This was not my understanding of the event.”
“Alright, if this is all really going to go down, I’m gonna need something to put these things in. What do you mean you don’t have a basket? MOM!!!! Sometimes you are so JEWISH.”
“Mazzy! Would you like to put your eggs in my basket?”
“Nope. I’ve got this thing figured out.”
“Quiet! Nobody move! My super egg-sensing powers tell me there is a red one to my right.”
“Hmmm. These eggs don’t look biodegradable. Please make sure you throw them in the appropriate trash bin.”
“MOM! Don’t just stand there! There’s an egg underneath that dirty newspaper! And one inside that unconscious guy’s shoe…”
“This is so much better than looking for a big tasteless cracker wrapped in a napkin.”
“I’ve looked everywhere besides up your nose. You mind checking it out for me?”
“Mother. You mean to tell meโ you had me picking through NYC garbage for eggs, when all the while there was a perfectly lovely spread offering snacks? The lengths you grown-ups go to for photo-taking opportunities…”
And just to show-off more of my husband’s camera skills, below is Ella looking cute as ever. (I’ve given her a bum rap but we are on better terms now.)
And here is Mazzy showing off the drool that killed my iPhone.
Whaddaya think? How’d the husband do?
A nice card made my Harlow…and a nice massage from a nice spa Grammy would never treat herself to! Also, a nice box of chocolates and a Starbucks gift card! LoL she may have needed lots of coffee while watching the little one!!! Happy Easter to all!!!
Grammy should have a spa day and a bottle of wine!
Grammys are special people! She deserves a vacation of her own but they be a bit pricey so maybe a spa day? And of course something homemade from the littles. A hand print thank you card!
I bet Grammy could use a spa day or at least a massage and a pedi.
Have the family cook for her or take her to her fav restaurant for a night of no cooking, basket with spa goodies/robe/comfy slippers
I think it would be nice to send grammy a maid to her house! Sometimes you can even find Groupon deals for maid services! Grammy will be able to kick back relax! oh and all those sick germs will be cleaned away! BTW your Park City vacay looked amazing! Park City is wonderful!
family getaway together!
I’d say the most treasured “thank you” gifts or any gift to a grandmother is something made by the kiddos or photos of them. Those seem to be the favorites of my mom and mil.
I think Grammy deserves a mani pedi day with all her favorite girls! ????????
Take Grammy for a spa day! Massages or mani/pedis?
Maybe a get well basket for her to enjoy. Orange juice (and champagne!), bath bombs, facial scrubs. You can even purchase RedBox codes for her to enjoy a movie or two at home.
Glad to hear everyone’s feeling better.
This is a cute post. Love this age for egg hunting!
Could you make Grammy a little book of the kids? Or something personal like a maya brenner necklace. You could do just her initial or all your initials. Super pretty and simple.
We all had the stomach bug last week too. So much laundry!!!
Definitely a spa day!
Make her her favorite dessert!
Grammy needs a massage! She is a rockstar for getting through Harlow’s illness and then getting sick herself! Can she be my grammy, please?! She is amazing.
I would have to agree with everyone that is suggesting a massage. That’s what I would like if I were her.
How about a trip to get her nails done? Didn’t even recognize Mazzy in the photos, so cute!
A gift we love to give to our parents are tickets the Napa Wine Train. It’s a 3 course meal with wine pairing on a train through Napa Valley. While this is obviously not a choice on the East Coast, maybe you have something similar? Or a dinner with a show?
I know your momma loves her Grammy time, but I think time with just you would be a sweet treat! Maybe a spa day or dinner and a show? And you could also invite Dr. B so both her girls could be there.
Ps. Toddler Mazzy is so dang cute!
I think a coupon book for Grammy made of up of little things that might make her day! I think she would appreciate the time you would put into making it and getting to redeem them.
Spa Day. Hands down, spa day – massage and facial or just one. Its a great time to relax and get pampered for the not so fun times that may have been had with a sick kid.
Whenever my mom takes care of my babes and things done go as planned, its a spa day where she gets pampered a little bit ๐
I think you should treat her to something she loves. Since I don’t know your Mom’s favorite things here are a few ideas. Tickets to a show on Broadway, the ballet, opera, or a weekend getaway, a season pass to the Botanic Gardens or some other special place. Hope these suggestions help you find the perfect thank you.
First of all, your mom is amazing! I would say a relaxing day at the spa! But for two – ’cause spa days are always more fun w/ someome else. And the second person should be you because don’t all moms long for mommy/daughter special days?!
GRAMMY DESERVES A SPA DAY AND A GIFT! GIVE HER A MUG THAT SAYS “BEST GRAMMY EVER!” SO SHE CAN SEE IT EVERYTIME SHE DRINKS HER COFFEE OR TEA OR VODKA? ????
And she should baby mug you with it!
Little Mazzy is so ADORABLE! I think a girls night out for adult mother daughter time would be awesome! Take her to dinner, split a bottle of wine and catch up kid free!
A mani/pedi date with you!
What a good Grammy! I like the idea of a homemade gift from Harlow and a gift certificate for a massage (or some other spa treatment she likes). Or a nice dinner out with her daughter. Mom’s always like that!
I say handmade cards from the kids, announcing a spa day ๐
Awww Mazzy is just adorable! She was so little here.
For your momma I’d recommend some sort of spa day or massage certificate. Really can’t go wrong chocolate either. Lol
A nice bouquet of flowers, a bottle of wine and a thank you card made by Harlow will probably warm Grammy’s heart!
Grammy needs to go on a wonderful day at the spa followed by a lovely dinner. You can cook for her!
Grammy needs a day with her baby (you) spent getting pedicures, lunch and time to catch up!
Have Mazzy & Harlow each pick out something that they think she would like.
buy her something she typically wouldn’t buy for herself. coffee out, lunch out, nail salon…etc
you could get Grammy a nice WE at the spa somewhere. god knows a week with a sick child deserves massages. lots of ’em.
Not sure Grammy’s preferences but perhaps a massage? Or pedicure manicure? And throw in a thank you card from Harlow herself?
I like to give things people would usualy not treat themselfs to. Like expensive bathing suplements (LUSH) or a nice massage, mani/pedi at a really nice place. Things like that, that make people feel apreciated
Hmmm…photo book of her and the girls or cheesey mug with a pic of the 3 of them? I’m sure she was still happy to spend time with Harlow!
I think you should take Grammy out to lunch and to a spa for the afternoon.
Definitely a spa day and a cleaning service!
Wow! your husband did an amazing job. Why don’t you take granny to a trip where she will get to spend a very good time with the kids and you. We would love to read a post on that trip and your husband can take the pictures. ๐
How about a special afternoon tea for you both?
how about a bag of goodies-kind of like you’re doing for us? a mug, book in genre she likes, scarf, etc.
Grammy deserves a lovely brunch/lunch with her daughter and some pampering….maybe a massage, facial, mani/pedi. And cards from the girls! ๐ What a great mom/grandma she is!!
Grammy nweds a day off…so do you! Mommy daughter spa day!
You should give Grammy another box of Hershey Deluxe Kisses!
A massage, a pedicure, a case of wine??
Give Grammy carry out / or dinner out depending on her preference to a great local restaurant!
Spa treatment with a champagne lunch for Grammy!!
You should treat her to a spa day!
I think Grammy deserves a gift certificate to a nice spa so she can have a relaxing, pampering day ๐
I loved rereading this post. Made me realize how long I’ve been reading this blog. Wow. Time really does fly.
Anyway, I was going to suggest a massage for Grammy. Things didn’t end up being quite the fun times that everyone had hoped for while she and Harlow were together but I’m sure they made the best of it. But who doesn’t love a massage?
For a week with a sick kid you’re mom deserves the works – dinner at her favorite restaurant, a massage, and a bottle of her favorite alcoholic beverage.
Spa day…she needs some relaxation
I think you should take Grammy out for a Spa Day and dinner!
I agree with everyone else – she needs a spa day! Bonus if you get to enjoy it with her!
Chocolate always works as a nice Grammy gift in our family.
Maybe Grammy would like a nice day at the spa… nothing says “Thank you for cleaning up my offspring’s vomit” like a good massage.
Mini-Weekend vacation away or a spa day for grandma, to show your appreciation.
An Easter basket full of Lysol products to sanitize!
Grammy would prob love a spa day and some wine. Or maybe just wine ๐
A day with her own daughters. I know that is my Mom’s favorite gift, a day with her daughters just going out and getting pampered or shopping together. A mom loves time with her girls!
I know my kids’ Grammy would never say no to a spa day, but she’d probably love a fun girl’s day with me and my little gal when she wasn’t sick as well. Maybe a girl’s day to the spa? Manis and pedis for all!
Spa day for sure for Grammy!
I think a spa session/day for Grammy is in order as a Thank you for taking care of Harlow while they were both sick last week! A great way for her to relax after a stressful week!
You should give her a big warm hug and say ‘thank you, we love you more than you can imagine’ – I’m sure she will be happy! ๐
Grammy needs a spa day. Pamper the pamperer.
Something homemade from Mazzy and a girls lunch date would be nice!
Poor Grammy and Harlow! Sorry to hear they both got sick while you and Mazzy were away. Maybe have Harlow make her a thank you card and get her a gift card for a mani/pedi at her favorite spa. Every woman loves a little pampering.
Do you have a favorite picture? Of either the girls & grammy, or you & the girls & grammy?
Have it made into a canvas print for her to keep.
Or a day at the spa? Seems generic, but it can do wonders – especially where she wasn’t feeling well either.
Happy Easter, Ilana!
Weekend getaway at a Bed & Breakfast a couple of hours away ????
Something handmade from the girls would be perfect for Grammy. Maybe some foodstuffs delivered too, so you can “take care” of her too.
Spa day full of pampering!
I know that there are tons of blogs and articles out there about being in pictures with your kids. I’m still not sold on the reason. I know I was there. The photo jogs the memory but because of body image issues, if I am in the photo my eyes focus on me and imperfections I see and not necessarily remembering the moment or how funny my kid looked or what a great time we had.
Definitely massage or spa gift card for grammy!
Send Grammy for a day at a spa full of pampering!
I think your mom deserves some pampering for taking such good care of Harlow while feeling under the weather herself! A mani/pedi/facial/spa gift certificate for a day of pampering tucked inside of a handmade card from Harlow should do the trick ๐
I think treating her to nice lunch and getting her nails done is a good idea!
What could be better than a girl’s activity with her daughter like a paint and pour. You could also being the wine. ๐
Flowers! Or a massage!
What a great Grammy! I think a day at the spa is a great idea!
Spa day! I know that’s what I would want if I were her! And maybe a pre-spa day brunch with you, Mike and the girls at a restaurant she doesn’t normally go to, something extra special. Glad they are both feeling better!
Maybe brunch with you, Mike and the girls at a restaurant she doesn’t normally go to (something extra special) followed by a day at the spa. That sounds pretty great! Glad they are both feeling better!
I like to do a salon or spa gift certificate. That way she can get her nail or hair done ๐
You could give Grammy a basket of goodies. Wine, chocolate, a book and a massage. Things that she loves to use to relax.
SPA day or a night out to her favorite restaurant
Grammy and girls day – brunch, mani/pedi, etc. ๐
Take Grammy on a little getaway! Just the two of you. Maybe somewhere she’s always wanted to go or hasn’t been in a while.
An amazing thoughtful gift is one on one time with Harlow again (maybe American girl lunch or something like that?) so they can spend a fun time together again? Or a spa days with the girls too? Grammy just loves spending time more than physical gifts, so planning a super special girl’s day! Or plan a super fun trip to a place you enjoyed as a child with the girls?
I like the idea of a spa day, just the two of you!
#1 Grammy award! She deserves a getaway herself! Maybe some spa time included! Glad they’re both feeling better!
I think a spa package is a great way to say thank you to your Mom! With a handmade card from Harlow, of course!
Get her a massage and very nice bottle of wine.
I’ll suggest something I know my mom would love: an activity for just the two of you. maybe a meal or one of those painting places? cheese tasting? probably won’t matter if the two of you are together!
I think Grammy needs a special day with you and no kids… Leave H and M with Mike or Ruth and treat Grammy to a spa day, special lunch/dinner, shopping… Whatever she wants to do for the day!
…Or you could get her a nice bottle of wine (or three). She might need it after taking care of a sick baby for a week! (Although Harlow is absolutely delightful and this comment in no way is intended to imply otherwise ????)…
-Caroline
Grammy deserves a spa day or a weekend get away!
I would say Grammy needs some grown up time with her grateful daughter and take her for afternoon tea (champagne optional. No, wait, champagne is never optional) because afternoon tea is one of those crazy priced luxuries that you would never treat yourself to but is always fun with people you love, especially for no other reason than you love them.
Spa day for Grammy! To include a scavenger hunt with Harlow decorated cards to discover what spa treatment she goes to next!
I say a nice day at the spa for Grammy!
A spa day with daughter would be the best thank you gift!
How about a nice spa gift card? Pamper her like she pampered Harlow. โค๏ธ
