Previous to our participation in the Bowery Babes Easter Egg Hunt, the closest I ever came to Easter was begging my mom for chocolate bunnies at the drugstore as a kid. The bunnies were always hollow, which never ceased to surprise and disappoint. Or stop me from begging again the following year.
We are Jewish, in case you are not already aware, and although we have pictures of Mazzy destroying a piece of matzah, grimacing at charoset and crying with boredom during the sedar, showcasing our Easter pictures seemed a lot more fun. Or at least more colorful. Passover is always very very biege.
Why else was this day different from all other days?
Usually, I’m the one with the camera. Which means we’ve got lots of shots of Mazzy. A few of my husband. And NONE of me. On rare occasions, Mike strips me of my photo-taking duties and takes it on himself. He says the reason he doesn’t do it more often is because I ask to see each picture after it’s taken and then I make “a face”.
But since it was Easter and we were on our first official egg hunt (that didn’t involve finding a brunch place at noon on a Sunday in downtown Manhattan without a forty minute wait), I let Mike document while I fully participated in the festivities with my baby girl.
I even kept my “faces” to myself.
Mike’s Photo Documentary: “Egg Hunt In The City” starring Mazzy, myself and her good friends, Ella and Carson:
“Bunnies? Candy? Let’s DO THIS THING!”
“WAIT. So you expect me to dive into that dirty swamp to retrieve a couple of fake plastic eggs? This was not my understanding of the event.”
“Alright, if this is all really going to go down, I’m gonna need something to put these things in. What do you mean you don’t have a basket? MOM!!!! Sometimes you are so JEWISH.”
“Mazzy! Would you like to put your eggs in my basket?”
“Nope. I’ve got this thing figured out.”
“Quiet! Nobody move! My super egg-sensing powers tell me there is a red one to my right.”
“Hmmm. These eggs don’t look biodegradable. Please make sure you throw them in the appropriate trash bin.”
“MOM! Don’t just stand there! There’s an egg underneath that dirty newspaper! And one inside that unconscious guy’s shoe…”
“This is so much better than looking for a big tasteless cracker wrapped in a napkin.”
“I’ve looked everywhere besides up your nose. You mind checking it out for me?”
“Mother. You mean to tell meโ you had me picking through NYC garbage for eggs, when all the while there was a perfectly lovely spread offering snacks? The lengths you grown-ups go to for photo-taking opportunities…”
And just to show-off more of my husband’s camera skills, below is Ella looking cute as ever. (I’ve given her a bum rap but we are on better terms now.)
And here is Mazzy showing off the drool that killed my iPhone.
Whaddaya think? How’d the husband do?
A spa day or nice dinner!
Have you seen those really cute bangle bracelets with the customized portrait charm?!? They are so cute and she’d have a picture of the girls dangling at her wrist all day(We used shutterfly and my mom loves hers!)!! Also, I’m sure you could put together a rockstar granny swagbag ๐ Happy Easter…great throw back!
Take Grammy to the park with a fun picnic, and some bubbles!
Maybe you can send your mom on a nice weekend vacation somewhere to thank her?
Thank Grammy by sending Mazzy to her house for a week!
Love looking back at your old posts ๐ what an amazing Grammy! I think you should treat her to a day with you! Spend a lovely day together shopping, lunch, spa time. I rarely get to spend the day alone with my mom now that I have kiddos- we are always having our conversations around the kids and while we are playing with them or corralling them!
Flowers…….maybe a plant. Or just a lovely drawing from the girls. My mom would love any of those. You know how grandma’s are, there is no thanks necessary, they love every second, even when there is puke involved.
Treat Grammy to a spa day! That’s always what I want after taking care of a sick kiddo – peace and quiet!
I think Grammy earned a spa day!
Harlow should make grammy a little something, and you should get her a massage! Unless grammy has hobbies, and then buy her some supplies or a gift certificate to purchase more supplies to spend time doing what she loves (besides caring for grandkiddos!).
Grammy should get a night in a nice hotel with a massage and a good book. Although she really just probably wants a repeat of her week with Harlow that included everyone healthy!
A massage, pedi and mani!
What a super Grammy! I would think she deserves a spa day!
She’s so grown up now!!! Hoping to win the swag bag for the donut pillow. We make a point of finding local donut shops wherever we go!
There’s nothing more mothers like than hanging with their grown kids. A mini getaway with your mom would be a wonderful gift. It’s a win win.
Grammy deserves a nice massage and pedicure after taking care of Harlow while sick!
Treat Grammy to a mani/pedi or a massage!
I second (third?) the suggestions of spa day, mani pedi, or some other relaxing treat for Grammy after the sickness that was no fun for anyone!
Grammy might love a charm bracelet with each her grandchildren’s names of them. I saw a bracelet with birds on them, something like grandma’s nest is always full, and each charm is a bird with their name on them. I think it’s on Esty.
Grammy deserves a spa day!
That was crazy awesome of Grammy to do that!
If she took some pictures of their time together, you could create her a personalized photo mug (or any other item that she uses frequently if she’s not a coffee drinker). She would think of their special time together every time she used the mug.
Grammy needs a huge thank you card from the girls and a spa day! With an added bottle of wine for afterwards ๐
A spa gift certificate for Grammy ????
Handmade gifts done by your girls. Those are usually a favorite around here.
A donation made in Grammy’s name to a charity that also helps kids!
Sounds like you need to treat Grammy to a spa day somewhere!
Framed pictures of the girls or something that they made for her. Plus a gift card or basket of fun little items – cute pen and pad of paper, cute kitchen stuff, etc.
I’d make it a two-parter: something homemade from Harlow to say thanks, and something super relaxing, like a massage and pedicure, from you and Mike!
You should do a mani/pedi or mini spa day!
Based on all the $ she drops on Mazzy and Harlow, I’d say a toys r us gift card. But I’m sure all she really wants is your heartfelt thanks.
Grammy deserves a spa day and something handmade by Harlow!
I think an overnight at a spa would be a wonderful way to thank her. Mainly because it can help her recover from being sick herself taking the time to relax!
Grammy totally deserves a spa day! Massage, facial, and a mani-pedi to relax and forget about all of the ick that she and Harlow had while you were gone!
I agree with some of the others before me – I cute emergency sick kit with a thank you card from Harlow. Include a mani/pedi or a massage in there and your golden!
How about a nice basket with some of her favorite things-gift cards to favorite restaurants or coffee shops, candy or food items, some fun knick knacks or things like that. Or you could always give her a throw with a note saying ‘Thanks for handling all of that throw up’ on it! ????
Massage gift cards are the best gifts ever! She’ll definitely probably want to relax after that week. ๐
I would pay for a cleaning company to come and clean clean clean for her. Germs be gone!
A little something handmade by Harlow and a cute pic of the 3 of you in Salt Lake
Brunch and then spa day with you to say thanks for taking care of Harlow!
Take her to brunch! And get her a big mimosa! Amd of course a hand written/drawn card from Harlow is always a good touch!
She’s such a great Grammy! Maybe treat her to a spa day mani, pedi, and massage then take her somewhere she loves for lunch and just make it a day for the two of you. Have the girls make her a card letting her know how special she is and just make an entire day about Grammy
Grammy would probably appreciate a day of pampering at the spa.
A necklace with their grandkids names or birth stones.
Grammy definitely deserves some serious spa time! One treatment for every throw up that didn’t make the puke bucket!! ????????
Mani/pedi, facial, or massage whichever she prefers and if you take her then you get pampered too!
I think Grammy deserves a foot massage! That’s my absolute favorite splurge.
Heartfelt thank you note and big basket of her favorite teas/coffees. ๐
You should take your mom for a spa day. Go get facials or mani/pedis together, have a nice lunch and window shop. She probably would enjoy your company more than a trinket to say thank you! It’s always the way my mom and I spend our days together and since they are so infrequent, it makes it that much more special!!!
Definitely a spa day!!
I believe the correct sponsored reply is hershey kisses ๐
Grammy definitely needs a day at the spa with a companion of her choosing. And maybe a new bathrobe and slippers.
i am a baker and decorator by trade. This year I gave my daughter’s pre-k teachers a monster cupcake with icing to look like fur, and marshmallows popped up on straws made into eyeballs, spots, feet, the works….attached a note that said, “thank you for watching my little monster.” I included a gift card for coffee.
And if that fails or babysitting was downright miserable? Juniors cheesecake and a subscription to a wine service.
Something made by the kids ๐ I always love getting home made presents. Or maybe a giftcard for a massage!!
A variety of restaurant gift cards!
Grammy deserves a spa day for taking care of a sick kid, and maybe her favorite wine.
Grammy might like a pedi for springtime โก
I think she did something to help you relax, so you should return the favor! A facial or mani/pedi. And a nice bottle of wine is a fabulous treat!
Tickets to Hamilton ๐
a gift basket of her favorite things would be a fun gift
I’d say a facial or massage for Grammy. Who doesn’t love that?
Get Granny a Target gift card!!! I would love that!!!
I think a mom/daughter spa day would be eggscellent!
Show up to Grammy’s on a Saturday or Sunday morning with fresh squeezed orange juice, prosecco, and a hash-brown crust quiche. (Trust me, find a recipe for one, like at emilybites.com — this is my new favorite east meal (and I don’t know her, I just like her recipes)). Share it all and spend an hour or two together. A win for you, and a win for Grammy!
So sorry to hear they had a sick week. I am happy to hear they are on the mend and doing well. I think a great way to show gratitude to Grammy would be a sweet note and spending the day doing something she loves with her. My mom always loves when I write her a thoughtful thank you note. Plus I love doing something she loves so that we can share in it together. It’s not every day my mom gets to do just something for her.
WHAT A GREAT GRAMMY! HOW ABOUT A BOTTLE OF WINE AND SOME PRALINES FROM SAVANNAH CANDY KITCHEN. THEY SEND GIFT SETS/BASKETS… I’VE USED IT AS A GIFT FOR OUR PARENTS A TIME OR TWO.
Get her jewelry!
I say Grammy deserves a spa day, massage, Mani, pedi, something to make her feel like a million bucks!
A spa day is always amazing…personally, I always enjoy new luxurious pajamas and slippers. Make every night a spa treatment with the addition of a fabulous lotion.
I think you should make her a “treat yo’self” bag that has a few of her favorite things in there..a face mask, a bottle of wine, popcorn, gourmet cheese, whatever it is she fancies! You should also include cute little notes from the girls!
I think Grammy deserves a great big bottle of wine, a special dessert and some custom art or ceramic made by the girls. While I love the idea of a spa day, I think that treats that can be shared and art that can be kept leaving more lasting memories. She’ll look at her gift and remember it was for being the awesome Grammy she is. Good luck!
How about a chocolate dipped (nice) bottle of her favorite wine?
If that’s not really her thing a fresh (spring inspired) pair of earrings? Or purse?
Start a new Instagram account in honor of Grammy to thank her!
I always like to repay grandmas with a little bit of me time! Pedicures, a new book, and a giftcard to a favorite coffee shop!
Something sweet and sentimental from Harlow to say thank you and then an additional gift from you depending on what she likes (spa day, theater tickets, nice meal, etc.). Know it’s not quite the week that was planned but it makes for a great story/memory down the road.
A spa day for Grammy would be perfect. Mani, pedi, massage, and a nice dinner! ????????????????
I definitely think Grammy needs a day at the spa and a handmade gift from Harlow!
A bottle of really nice wine.
A massage. And chocolate. And wine!!! All the things to make Grammy relax.
A “Nurse Grammy” shirt
Have Hatlow make her one of those mugs you draw on with a sharpie and then bake- and put some yummy tea bags inside!
Hire a sitter and take her Out just you and her. Manis and pedis. A facial and drinks. And just mommy time.
If she’s anything like my mom, she’d love a day out with her daughter! Take her to the spa and out to eat.
A special mani/ pedi would go a long way ๐ .
Have Harlow make her one of those mugs you draw on with a sharpie and then bake- and put some yummy tea bags inside!
Happy to hear they both feel 100% better!
A nice dinner out with just the two of you would so sweet. Maybe a mani/pedi before hand! A little pampering and dinner never hurts!
My mom has a necklace with charms engraved with each of the grandkids names and she loves it. You can never go wrong with jewelry especially if it is a piece that symbolizes her grandkids
A girl’s day doing all of Grammy’s favorite things with her favorite girls! Feeling appreciated always feels so good โค๏ธ
Grammy would probably enjoy a nice lunch with you!
Spa day!!
Spa day!!!!
Make her a Mother’s Day photobook. Celebrate the Anniversary on how many years she has been a grandmother. Fill it with photos and drawings by your girls (well, photos of their drawings).
What an awesome Grammy!
A spa day or a weekend away would be great! or tickets to a show she’s been wanting to see?
a spa day and a nice bottle of her favorite wine!
Omg the little’s purple sweater was adorable! And for Grammy it depends on her taste. A day at a spa or put together a self pamper kit? Go out for pedicures. My mom loves a good bottle of wine and a new movie. Happy Easter!
Whenever I want to treat my mom, I like to take the two of us out for pedicures. She loves it because it’s the perfect combination of quality time with me and pampering for her! ๐
I think a gift card for a spa treatment would be a nice thank you gift for Grammy!
I opened this post and realized I’m wearing the same shirt as you are in the pics ???? Shows how long I’ve had this shirt
Love this post! And I think a great gift for Grammy would be a few gift cards to her favorite places – maybe her favorite salon/spa, her favorite restaurant and her favorite places to shop. She can treat herself to all her favorite things! ๐
And also a present for Grammy for watching sick Harlow should be another day with non sick Harlow. Because what would be more fun then hanging out with her ????
A massage! Or I like the idea of a getaway for Grammy too. ๐
