Right now, I'm at BlogHer in Chicago. For those of you unfamiliar with the crazy insider world of mom blogging, this is where bloggers big and small go to congregate, learn some stuff (SEO, whaaa????) and party like rockstars.
Well, if rockstars party at the Whirlpool offices amongst premium washing machines.
I'm not kidding. That's where I just came home from. A washing machine party. It was quite lovely although I didn't know a single person there. "Hello, washing machine, nice to meet you." "Nice to meet you too. Have you met my friend, The Refrigerator?" "Now I have!"
Actually, if you must know, very tasty food-type-items can be prepared in Whirlpool kitchens. Especially in Whirlpool's new "ice white" kitchen collection. Did you know "ice white" is the next big thing after stainless? Now you do!
I left Mike with Mazzy at home and brought Harlow and Ruth (our nanny) to the conference with me. It feels weird to have a nanny at a mom blogging conference. Kind of like I'm cheating at being a mom or something, but that was the only way I could figure out how to go.
Mike would lose his mind home alone with two kids, I'm still breastfeeding and Ruth's never been to Chicago before… so it all works out.
DON'T JUDGE ME.
What else happened this month besides Harlow throwing up all over herself the second she set foot in Chi-town? (Did I mention that? TRUTH.)
• Harlow stole someone's pastrami
• I found the secret to enjoying parenthood
• People bought baby wigs FOR REAL
• Poppy used Mazzy as unpaid labor
• Riding shot gun got WAY LESS FUN
• Hipsters brought their crib to a restaurant
• Your baby started crying for a plethora of reasons
• We learned a thing or two about step-grandparents
• We saw Bill Maher's baby doppleganger
• Mazzy and Harlow failed at modeling
• Mazzy accessorized her princess dress with a firehat
and lastly,
• George Alexander Louis (aka the Royal GAL) was MUGGED.
There was a lot of excitement around yesterday's post about Blinkbuggy, the online baby book. If you left a question for Blinkbuggy on the blog or on facebook, they have been answering all of them. In a nutshell, the mobile app, a video upload option and a way to print out a tangible book are all in the works and should be ready some time in the fall. Woohoo!
Congratulations to Danielle who won the $150 gift card from the adorably fashionable Noch Mini. Let's hope her daughter pulls off their clothes better than mine. I'll be announcing the second winner on instagram later today.
If you are at BlogHer, let me know in the comment section below. Or better yet talk to me in person.
Unless you are too busy partying with washing machines.
In which case, tell them I say "hi".
— Mommy Shorts
How do you find out about BlogHer type events? I just started a mommy blog of my own and I would love to learn how to increase readership and meet other mommy bloggers!
I was pumping in a bathroom at a Medical Conference and other women heard the noise and said, “I know what you are doing in there” and then chatted through the door to keep me company. Its a special, strange kind of bond 🙂 Pump on, Mama, pump on.
I have to ask – did you get your own room, or are you sharing with Ruth?
You might be cheating at being a mom if you left Mike and Mazzy home and took a nanny so you could sit around reading magazines for a weekend but since you work, raise a preschooler as well as a baby, post pretty much every day and manage to be consistently entertaining and are actually at a conference I reckon you can cut yourself some big old mommy slack! Enjoy your appliance parties and getting to snuggle that adorable baby!
We are all in one room. Which meant last night, I walked in, Harlow woke up (since she is the lightest sleeper on earth) and I was up with her for most of the night. Nightmare.
You take such beautiful pictures of your girls. I love seeing them!
Also – most women at blogher have kids out there somewhere, right?! Being cared for by someone else? By bringing yours, you’re still committed to a few hours a day, so props to you! (and props for still BFing).
Simply said – YOU ROCK.
Good thing you brought along the nanny. I couldn’t imagine doing it alone – you’re definitely not cheating on being a mom, you’re playing motherhood smart.
Ugh about Harlow being up – in our house, it seems to always happen on the night you go to bed late and/or have to get up early!! “Luckily” you are all in one room, otherwise I’d be asking you to adopt me! 😉
OMG! I’m here! Will you be at the expo tomorrow? I’ll be looking for you!
Cute baby! That Whirlpool party sounds like a blast. LOL
I am not at the conference, as I do not blog. But I comment on blogs. I comment on your blog, and Lauren from Filing Jointly’s blog. And you are both at the conference. So you could meet, if you hadn’t yet, and talk about each other’s blogs, as both a fabulous, funny, and famous ( as a blog could be). Or you could talk about me, a loyal reader commentor, and whether you love me, hate me, are unnerved by me if you think I am a stalker ( I’m not) or have no clue who I am as am forgettable ( fair enough – you both have oodles of reders way funnier than me!). Won’t matter to me – I am not there. But can be an ice breaker for your convo, and it would be cool to be talked about by two strangers in Chicago albeit by my posting pseudonym … kind of like I am productive and quasi famous and virtually there myself … rather than home, blogless, and napping rather than cleaning.
Love it! And on a side note, if I had a nanny, I would get one of those British 007 nannies … then if anyone ever judged me for going anywhere with my nanny I could snap my fingers, stage whisper ” Nanny!” and BOOM! Karate chop to the head!
Nice post. I learn something totally new and challenging on blogs I stumbleupon every day.
It will always be exciting to read content from other authors and use a little something from other websites.
