Harlow loves putting on a show. The only problem? Every time I try to get her performances on video, she starts running around the house while she’s singing and the video ends up looking like something that might give viewers a seizure.
My solution?
Place her in a box.
Here’s Harlow singing “Jingle Bells” while standing in a box, using her Micro Kickboard as a microphone. The kickboard is on wheels, which makes it even better.
Merry Christmas in June!

Watching my son opening gifts. He’s so positive. “Wooooaaaaaaahhhh! It’s a box!” He wanted to share with his brother, due in February. Just melts my heart 🙂
I loved watching my daughter play with the dollhouse Santa brought her… which happened to be the same dollhouse Santa brought me when I was little! Happy Christmas and Hanukkah, Ilana!
Let the 2 year old have a cookie immediately after breakfast, and he then spent a good 5 minutes running in a circle. He’s always a hoot, so it’s hard to pick just one moment!
I thought it was funny when my two-year-old called our tree a “christmas treat”. So cute.
Hilarious! Our funny Christmas moment happened when my daughter tripped over a pile of presents and said “oh shit”
In front of my extremely religious-non cussing parents. Yay.
Funniest thing this holiday… i asked my grandma (90 years young) if her brother (94) was still playing golf. My aunt said that there were not many left of their foursome golf group and my grandma replied that they were “all quitters”. I like her spunk. She just giggled after that.
the santa slips are my favorite memories. my mil said, “i think you’ll love what’s in this present” to my 3-year-old who immediately responded with, “you don’t know, gramma. santa wrapped this.”
My 3-year-old waking up on December 24th and looking for her presents and wondering why Santa didn’t come!
Love it!
Not necessarily *the* funniest but it was so funny when our 4 year old kept calling his stocking his “beanstalk”. So cute!
My kids’ preschool Christmas performance was epic! My daughter stole the show with her owner interpretive dance moves throughout the whole thing. My son pretty much just stared at his cousin, who was bawling the entire times it was hilarious that I was in tears from laughing.
My favorite thing that happened this Christmas was seeing and hearing my boys tell family members about the presents they got each other. When wrapping presents on Christmas Eve I labeled one present for each of them from other, and they were both so excited the other “got” them something ??
My favorite and funniest moment from the holidays this year was my 4 year old daughter using a baking cooking rack as a guitar and rocking out to her own original rock songs. She may hate me for the videos in 10 years.
Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah! My favorite part about the holiday season was the birth of my son on 12/16/16! I have had the most wonderful holiday yet! ??
My favorite moment was probably when my 2 year old was opening presents. Most where put inside plain/amazon boxes and he would yell out, “Bots! Bots!” as if to tell us the box was the gift and he was excited. Then he’d get excited all over again when I opened the boxes revealing the real gifts!
Favorite/Funny Moment: As much as my kiddos love Christmas, they spent the afternoon “playing” Trick-Or-Treat using stockings to collect candy, asking for candy canes and Christmas chocolates. Kids just can’t let Halloween go!
The funniest moment of this Christmas was when my kids (3 and 2 yo) found out that their cookies and milk for Santa has gone! My son told us “I know Santa is coming! I heard him eat the cookies, nom nom nom.. And drink the milk.. Gulp gulp gulp”. ? He is 3yo.
Funniest moment this Christmas so far was when we put dinner in the oven at 7:00 (for eating at 9:00) and the turkey got ready until 11:00. The kids were really hungry and it was really funny how anxious they were for bedtime because Santa was coming, they were making up ideas of how to make a signal for santa to stop in the house after dinner. I’ve never seen them so excited for bedtime. When they ended up their dinner (I wanted a family dinner) they all went upstairs washed their teeth, and got ready for bed all by themselves. I was so surprised and it was hilarious, no fair santa comes only once a year. 🙂 Happy Hanukkah for you, Mazzy, Harlow and Mike; my best wishes for you all!
Funniest moment of Holidays when I realized my toddler had an idea who Santa Claus is, the wrong idea but an idea.
The funniest moment has got to be my one year old passing out in his high chair at dinner while shoveling food in his mouth. We had a great day!
For me it was the first time my sister and & I were together with our families on Christmas Day. It was so nice to have our kids be with each other on Christmas morning too. Usually we do a separate Christmas with our family so this year felt extra special. Family is Everything for me.
When my sleepy two-and-a-half-year-old son walked right past the Christmas tree and completely ignored all the presents and climbed in my lap to snuggle. When I pointed out the presents he said “oh wow”. I asked if he wanted to open them and he said “no cuddle”. I’m going to miss my snuggly little guy when he gets older and doesn’t want to do that anymore.
My favorite part of the holidays is being with family! It has been a great holiday season. I would love this swag bag, the bag is amazing!
I remember this video! Hilarious 🙂
Favorite moment was when my 3 year old saw her santa present under the tree and came running to me and scream-squealed “Santaaaaa!! I love him SO MUCH! CHRISTMAS IS MY FAVORITE EVER!!!!!” Was like a full on Buddy the Elf moment and she’s never seen the movie lol!
Best Christmas moment was my 2 year old shouting “This is the best Christmas EVER!!” after putting his first ornament on the tree. OH buddy, there is so much more to come!
My favorite part of the holidays so far was seeing my kids’ excitement opening presents on Christmas morning.
My favorite is when my youngest gave everyone “treats” after dinner. I had bought yogurt covered dog treats and my daughter thought she’d pass them out after dinner. The funny part is everyone liked them. This is a secret I’ll never tell the family.
Our a little over year and a half year old toddler is very unhappy with babies around that get our attention. She is very gentle with her dolls. But on a walk through the neighborhood at the grandparents we noticed a recreated nativity story and stopped to admire all the work that went in. She ran to the baby Jesus and tossed him. We asked her to be nice and gentle and put it back and she did sweetly. Walking we all laughed together for a second all the adults and she did too and somehow seemee to know its wrong what she did but that she made us all laugh!
I gave your book to my sister for Christmas!
One of my favorite parts of Christmas was my 5yo yelling, “Oh, I’m going to LOVE this!” every time she started to open a gift.
The funniest moment of my Christmas was watching my nephew dance like Michael Jackson to the new karaoke tunes his little sister was singing. 🙂
Harlow is my spirit animal! She and my son would make an awesome Jewish kids who sing Christmas songs duo! My favorite and funniest moment from the holiday season was when my sister placed her 1 month old baby on my 4 year old son’s lap so we could take a cousin picture and he was not having it and then sweet Aria had a blow out, which he felt and heard. He promptly gave her back to my sister and said “No thank you.” but not before I snapped a great picture of his reaction.
My favorite moment that happened on Christmas Day was when I asked my 4 year old daughter what her favorite present was she said “everything!” Happy Holidays everyone!
Favorite moment: watching my 3 year old using her new kid-camera to take pictures of her new dollhouse. Christmas success!
Swag bag entry, please. And FYI if you are up for a fun book acknowledging both Christmas and Hanukkah yet reinforcing that they are completely different things while teaching about the meaning of Hanukkah and encouraging your kids to scream like a latke frying in hot oil (AAAHHHHHHH!), then check out Lemony Snicket’s The Latke Who Couldn’t Stop Screaming. Enjoy!
Im surprised the box contained her! My son would have jumped in and out of the box while singing! My fave moment this holiday was opening the back door so my son could see his new “castle”. It’s a swing set with a tower slide. He ran out and starting swinging (body first, not on his butt). In the process, one side of his diaper must’ve come loose. All of a sudden he says “mommy, I’m peeing down my leg!”. He rips off his pj bottoms and diaper and continues to swing. I asked him if we could go inside and get a new diaper about a million times and he said no, he had to keep swinging. The behind pic I got of his pj top and bare Butt is going to be great to embarrass him with when he’s a teen!
Love this! everytime I try to film my daughter singing she does the same thing. I’ll have to try the box too!
This is the swag bags of all swag bags . . . oh it would be so amazing to win! So my funniest moment this year is brought to you by my very loud and articulate 2 year old. All 14 of us had just sat down for dinner, my father in law said a really nice prayer when my son taps me on the shoulder and says he has a prayer too. I should have known better but I was all in the Hallmark moment and thought it was going to be something adorable so I announced that he had something to add to the prayer. Everyone got quiet and no joke this is what he said, “I pray for boogers like this one” then he lifts his finger high in the air for everyone to see this monstrous booger on his finger! Not the moment I was imagining but still hilarious and memorable!
The swag bag looks amazing! Spending time with family is always my favorite holiday moment.
My favorite moment this year was the family’s all PJ Christmas Eve with my brother in law rockin’ the full bunny suit.
Funniest part of the holidays so far was definitely giving my brother in law a secret santa gift that was on his wish list, but he didn’t put on there. Kirby video game.. he’s 40.
Best part of Christmas was when my 5yo told me that it was ok that Santa didn’t bring him what he wanted, because Santa’s surprises were way better!
My daughter turned 5 yesterday and is obsessed with unicorns so the poop would be a huge hit 🙂
On Sunday we went to a Chinese restaurant as is tradition on Christmas for lunch right after Mass/church. My parents were discussing what they would be ordering, telling my 3.5 year old boy Benjamin that a pu-pu platter was one of their items.
He replied “a ca-ca platter, gran-mama?”
Obviously potty training is on his mind these days.
The funniest thing so far is listening to my girls BUTCHER Christmas songs ha ha. Also, my girls got mermaid tail swimsuits for Christmas, and they flop around the house in those things, it’s so funny!
My favorite part has to be seeing all of the little cousins get together and play. The funniest part… when my newly 21 year old cousin mistook cherry peppers for cherries when making himself a beverage.
Our memory of this holiday season was the laughs we had at my husband’s grandma’s house on Christmas eve. It is always so hot at her house and we try to sneak open a door so we don’t die and she always blames her son. We all die laughing because no matter what you tell her, she still thinks it was her son.
This made my heart smile!!! Yo go girl!
Making cookies while wrangling a 2 year old. Felt like I ran a marathon!
My 7-yr-old daughter as an angel, singing during her Las Posadas performance at school.
Since my twins just turned 2 this was great first holiday season they got really excited about. Because of that we made it a nightly tradition to walk around the neighborhood to look at the lights. It was so fun to see their excitement.
So cute!
My funnies moment was watching my 9 month torment our dog with a singing Santa toy.
The funniest memory from
Christmas this year is probably my 17 month old son trying to re-wrap presents as we opened them. He was such a grumpy little dude until he ate breakfast! Second funniest was my 3 year old buying her 25 year old aunt (my sister) the same Iron Man action figure that my other sister had bought for my daughter.
I’m going to have to try your “singing in a box” trick to capture my 3year old singing and playing the new guitar she got! Pure genius- thanks for the great idea!! And Harlow is one amazing entertainer!!!
I forgot to put my favorite memory— it had to be that we had a very quiet, relaxed and spread out Christmas celebration! I woke up with the stomach bug on Christmas Eve so wasn’t able to host Christmas Day, so we had a quiet Christmas Day with just my husband and daughter (I was feeling sooo much better) and then on Monday we had my family over and it just made the holidays last longer and we were so much more relaxed!!!
My favorite part of the holiday season was when my 8-year-old daughter goes “haha mom you said Santa was only bringing us 4 things.” Yeah I totally made that threat a couple times this season! Lol Happy holidays everyone!
So cute. I remember when my little girl was a little ham for the camera. Sadly gone are those days. Now she just wants my phone when I try to take a picture.
I forgot about this post! it’s awesome. We don’t celebrate the holidays, but one of my favorite moments this weekend was my almost 3 year old son playing the keyboard and belting out “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” at the top of his lungs in toddler speak. Not sure where he learned the song, or how he figured out he could play the keyboard and sing at the same time, but it was awesome. And adorable. And cringe-worthy. As all great moments are!
Love your posts and your book. It’s refreshing how “real” you keep parenting. So many favorites to the holiday season. From my little man picking out our Christmas tree to putting the star on the top and the pure excitement he had on Christmas morning. Now he wakes up every morning asking if it’s Christmas. He is our little miracle and makes every day extremely special for us!
I simply loved my little one’s first Christmas. One of my favorite parts is how he’s selected a favorite ornament from the tree. Every morning since the tree went up, when we come down stairs, he crawls over to the tree, sits at the bottom, and reaches up for the little fox ornament. One Christmas morning, he crawled over presents to get to *his* fox. 🙂
Christmas is so fun with kids! My favorite was my two year old saying “What is in here? What is in here?” a million times while ripping off the paper soooo slowly!!
My favorite moments of the holiday season was watching me 6 month old watch the lights on our tree!
Love your posts!
One of my favorite memories from this season has to be my kids helping decorate the tree ? ?
Love how Harlow continues to be such a performer! Hope my daughter grows up to enjoy singing and dancing as much as Harlow.
Ha ha! What a way to keep Harlow in one spot. You crack me up. And the rolling “mic” was a doozie! Never a dull moment with you Mommy Shorts!
My 3yo does. not. eat. at family functions. Too much stimulation. He miraculously sat down to a plate of rice crackers and green grapes on Boxing Day and announced to everyone he would eat them because they would turn his penis green.
He was confusing them with asparagus making your wee smell funny (a ploy we try to get him to eat asparagus at home).
This is cute. My little is in love with Christmas carols. She has the tune mastered for a majority but only knows a few words so the songs are generally “Zoey language” with a few random Christmas words sprinkled in.
We played the “Saran wrap ball” game and it was hilarious!
My kids – snuggling. They have been so in love with each other over the holidays.
Best moment so far this year was playing dreidel with our 5 and 7 yr old. 5 year old kept counting his gelt and gloating about his stash. We try to discuss sharing and helping those with less. 7 year old starts giving away felt like it’s her job and 5 year old appears to not hear any of it and melts to the floor every time he rolls a nun ?
Oh Harlow. You make my days shine a bit brighter.
When asked what Santa brought him my three year old told everyone, “I got stuffs cause I not make the naughty list.” It was a very close call.
Favorite holiday moment so far: my three kids playing Chanukah songs on the piano. The 3 year old does not know how to play the piano so she just bangs on the notes while singing the dreidel song. And then she takes a big bow!
My favorite moment: Seeing how excited my 3 y/o was Christmas morning
Funniest moment was walking into my moms living room on Christmas Day and finding my 22 month old alone and unwrapping presents
My favorite memory was seeing the excitement of my 3 year old opening presents, even if they were not his! he was excited for a box!
My favorite part of the holidays season was having both sets of grandparents over Christmas morning. I am feel very lucky that my kids have so many people that love them and always around!
A lot of funny moments and some patience testing moments too! A fun one… My almost 2 year old LOVES to dance. So it should have been no surprise that in the middle of opening gifts on Christmas morning, she took off running saying “I go dance!” when Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You” started playing on the stereo in the other room.
Funny moment – that my 3 year old thinks her ken barbies were for her brother – these aren’t mine she says and tossed them aside. Lol
My favorite and funniest part of this past holiday season was my daughter who just recently started talking more (she’s 14 months) … she attempted to sing “deck the halls” and instead just ran around our house with her Rudolph nose screaming “duck duck duck duck”. Obviously meaning “deck” ?? it was pretty entertaining, especially with the Rudolph nose!
No holiday (any day) is complete without Harlow singing. She us just the funniest,, full star potential inside that little girl.
And now for the comments on funniest moments this holiday season. So,, one of my cousins,, who is a gymmast,, had an accident and he broke one of his legs and sprained the other one,, so naturally he can’t walk. The other day we were all having a family dinner at my house and my 2yo nephew was acting a little spoiled,, he’s always been somewhat repectful (intimidated) towards my cousin so in order to try and calm him down his mother told him “if you don’t stay quiet I’ll call your uncle Lolo” (Lolo is my cousin’s nickname) then my nephew turns to my cousin who stares back at him,, looks him dead in the eye and tells him “don’t you make me try and stand up”.
We all burst out laughing
This holiday season was pretty nice. My favorite part is always spending time with the fam. My in-laws are in their 80s and not in the best health. I’m really glad that my 4-year-old is getting the opportunity to know and love them. They’re really great grandparents and her life is better for knowing them. Funniest part of the holidays? The mysterious terror my girl has for her new Little Live Pets bird. She was so excited to get it, but it chirps and sings at random, even when she isn’t playing with it. My husband is awful and he keeps recording weird things for it to say. So it’ll be be sitting on the shelf and will suddenly say “I see you” or “I’m alive” and the kid freaks out… Actually, I guess her fear of the bird isn’t so mysterious, I just need to keep Daddy-O away from the Bird.
My favorite part of this Holiday season was when I snuck outside to ring “sleigh bells” outside of the kids’ window on Christmas Eve after putting them to bed… I came back in and pretended I wanted ‘just one more hug’ and my son looked at me and whisper-yelled, “WE. HEARD. SANTA. HE IS OUTSIDE. RIGHT. NOW. You have to get in bed mom, like now.” 🙂 🙂
Love her voice! My favorite moment so far has been the photo session where we tried our hardest to take a normal tantrum-free, frown-free, silly-face-free picture of all the kiddos at our house standing next to the Christmas tree. Fail. But so much fun.
Had to be the look on santa’s face when my (zoo loving) three year old told him she would like Leopard undies for Christmas
I have the same problem with my 3 year old daughter. I can never get her to stand still when she does cute stuff like this. Thank you for the great idea!!
I could not stop giggling! This is so cute!
We had Christmas at Grandma and Grandpa’s house on Christmas Eve so our two year okd was so over opening presents by Christmas morning. Her older sister had no problem doing it for her! It was funny to see her get excited about toddler toys!
The best holiday moment this year was opening a couple of presents my four year old son made for us at school. He was so proud, and couldn’t stop smiling while we opened our picture frame and ornament. They were the best presents this year!
Harlow is sooo cute <3
My favorite holiday memory so far would be my daughter running around the house screaming "It Christmas lalala ! Let's sing !" And she went on singing Christmas songs.
My most memorable moment of this holiday is my daughter and nephew (both 4) spent half a day together without fighting once for the first time ever!! My favorite is watching my daughter in awe of all the magic and joy of the holidays. Makes it all so special again for me since she was born!
My favorite part of the holidays this year was relaxing in pjs all day with my family. We are expecting our second baby any day so instead of running around the different relatives houses and parties we stayed in by ourselves and enjoyed our last Xmas as a family of 3 with just each other. It was perfect.
Seeing my 6 month old son’s eyes light up at the songs at Christmas Eve service
Watching my son lead the hanukah blessings and light the menorah every night. He is so proud and it’s so great to see.
Harlow, you’re a STAR!
My favorite funny moment of the holiday season was hearing my 2.5 year old try to say Merry Christmas. It came out Merry Frimsamist!
Love her sassy spunky attitude. My daughter is very similar.
Mom, I bet Santa thought we were in bed when we were really at Church. That’s why the presents are here already. Silly Santa! – from he mouth of a four year old
My favorite moment of this holiday season was bringing my new baby girl home from the hospital! She is a true miracle that we’ve waited 6 long years for and such a Christmas blessing! ❤
My favorite moment from this holiday season was also one of the funniest: my five-year-old daughter’s pure giddy joy when she discovered we had purchased her a snow shovel for Christmas. (She was happier about that than she was about the bajillion dollar sled and gorgeous wooden snowman parts–eyes, noses, hats, glasses, etc.–that she got later from her grandparents.)
Every once and a while, it’s refreshing to get a bit of affirmation that she’s *not* (totally) spoiled. 🙂
