Giveaway: $500 AmEx Gift Card & Year’s Supply of Boogie Wipes
On December 24th this year, I am packing up my Jewish family and taking them to Poppy and Nonna’s house in Rhode Island for their very first Christmas.
Poppy, aka “my father”, has been trying to establish a holiday with the family for years. When my parents got separated, back when I was ten years old, it was written into the divorce settlement that holidays would be spent with my mother (aka Grammy, but not Grammy at the time for obvious reasons.) My sister and I didn’t think much of it growing up and our traditions carried into adulthood, which means that even now, we spend holidays with our mom.
A few years ago, my dad mentioned something to my sister and me about spending Thanksgiving with him that year and we reacted like this was the most ludicrous thing we had ever heard.
“We can’t NOT spend Thanksgiving with MOM!”
“You don’t even care about the holidays, Dad.”
I will never forget the look on my dad’s face. It was at that moment I realized the reason my dad never seemed to celebrate the holidays was because he couldn’t celebrate them with his kids.
For a few years after that, we tried to establish fake holidays that we would spend with my father. “Liar’s Day” was a celebration that took place on March 6th, the day my dad thought was his birthday for most of his life, until his mother broke the news to him that he was actually born on May 6th and she had lied so he could make the kindergarten cut-off. “Status Day” was a celebration that took place on October 29th, the date my brother-in-law’s parents engraved on the back of his fancy new watch which had no significance whatsoever except that was the date they bought the watch. FYI- “Status Day” is a fabulous holiday where you go out to a really expensive restaurant and buy your loved one the cheapest item you can find from an obnoxiously upscale brand. Like a Gucci pair of socks or a Prada shower cap.
But none of these holidays really stuck with my father.
Then this year, my dad invited us up to their house in Rhode Island for Christmas. Nonna (my stepmother) is Catholic and celebrates Christmas as most people do— with a tree, Christmas Eve Dinner, stockings hung on the mantle, etc. He said the kids could help decorate a smaller kid’s tree the night before, we could do the whole cookies and milk thing for Santa and open presents the next morning.
“Oh my god, DAD! This is it! Why didn’t we think of this before? YOU CAN HAVE CHRISTMAS!!!!!!”
So. Now I am tasked with not only buying Hanukah and Christmas presents, I also need to buy stocking stuffers. I HAVE NEVER HAD TO BUY STOCKING STUFFERS BEFORE. It is the most exciting thing ever.
In partnership with Boogies Wipes, I have put together my “#1 Picks” for stocking stuffers. You know, since they are the experts on all things stuffed and picked. If you don’t see the wordplay there, your children stick their fingers up their stuffed noses to pick out their boogers far less than mine do.
To make it even more fun— if you tell me your #1 Stocking Stuffer Pick in the comment section below, you could win a $500 American Express gift card and a year’s supply of Boogie Wipes! (I’m really having a lot of awesome holiday giveaways, aren’t I???)

I really love traditional chocolate stocking stuffers. Maybe a special ornament. I’m set in my ways 🙂

#1 Stocking stuffer would be BOOGIE WIPES! My poor son has my husband’s lovely nose problems and hasn’t quite learned how to blow his nose.
Pinned it!
I always get hair ties, candy, and underwear for my daughter in her stocking along with some small toys; this year it is two new sets of her mini lalaloopsies.
for my husband and I: candy and scratch off lottery tickets make up the majority of ours 🙂
I am a huge Sons of Anarchy TV show fan; the series finale is tonight. My #1 stocking stuffer this year is the SOA book – since I will be going into SOA withdrawl once the show ends lol!!!
I just subscribed to your newsletter as well 🙂
My go to stocking stuffer is Chapstick! It always seems to disappear.
Our stockings always include a new tooth brush, a new pair of socks, and a new chapstick. It is always good to get the essentials!
A go-to stocking stuffer for our furious five, is always band aids! Plus princess bubble bath, ninja turtle body wash, tooth brushes of all sorts. My oldest boys are now into smelling like “men” (at the old age of 7,8 & 9), so they got some manly body wash from bath & body works this year!
One year the best “stuffer” was the stocking itself. It was one of those Purr Tender stockings that came in the Burger King kids meal. I honestly love cheap crap from the 80s. I want to say it was, like, 1987. For my son this year, he’s getting some mini-plush reindeer toys, and the yeti character from Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer. He’s too little for candy just yet.
And I pinned it! Is it weird that a three year old’s picks are more appealing to me than the “mom” ones?
I tweeted, but I had to edit because it wouldn’t let me tweet with -18 characters. I don’t know if it still counts.
Aaaand, I’ve subscribed!
We’re Jewish and didn’t get stockings but around the time I was 9 or 10, my mom starting doing Hanukkah Loot which was a big gift bag with stocking type stuffers…we always got it on the 8th night. I usually got a fun, not super expensive piece of jewelry and that was always my favorite. Also every year my brother and I got a pound of pistachios each. We keep the tradition going even now, 30 some years later.
Best stocking stuffers: little puzzles, toothbrushes, candy!
I like giving kids small things that are usually owned by the grownups: chapstick, pocket pack of tissues, their very own roll of tape, etc. Also socks!
It seems like your family has a lot of fun celebrating holidays! Being Jewish in 2014 is much harder than ever before. Most of us don’t even really know what Chanuka is about! How should we be expected to know about Judaism when our Jewish education only covered passover and a bat mitzvah party (if that..)!? Anyway Aish.com is a really awesome website that explains things is such a down to earth way! What a good idea to expose our children to the real meaning of these days beyond the presents and lights 😉
Wow! These are great picks–especially for a first-time stocking stuffing mom! I’m impressed.
My #1 stocking tip is to avoid the crap/junk at all costs. My kids get one or two small candy items, and then the rest is fun but sneakily useful things that your kids won’t realize is all just stuff you would have bought them anyway.
I actually did a blog post on just this thing this week too. (And I also have those Frozen Band-Aids on there! Love.)
Would love for you guys to check it out! 🙂 Thanks!

Because our boys are almost 4 and 18 months, this is the first year we’re doing stocking stuffers too. We’ve got bubbles, chalk, and play doh lined up for the stockings. Things that will most likely run out before the Easter Bunny comes around.
Oh, and I just signed up for your emails today!
The go fish game is great for my 3 year old. A great stocking stuffer to promote family quality game time 🙂
I have a 3 1\2 year old who is a member of Bandaid’ s Anonymous as well so fun bandaids are a must for her stocking. So far I have Frozen and Monster High bandaids. We also always put an orange in the stocking!
My 2 yo son and 4 yo daughter are going to flip over getting CloudNine kid umbrellas in their stockings.
Kids get a new stuffed animal in their stocking each year – they love them!
And I subscribed to your weekly newsletter 🙂
I love putting things like gift cards. My daughter LOVEs white castle and panda express so I’ll be putting those in. Also, snacks that are healthy not just candy. I also like to put in any small toys. This year I have 2 small learning games, and some skylanders!
My kids both LOVE Paw Patrol- and all Dalmatians are now “Marshall!”
My favorite stocking stuffer is movie tickets!!!
(If i had to pick from the above it would be boogie wipes… the kids need them! Lol)
The carry-on cocktail set cracked me up! Some favorites at our house are little containers of slime or goo – they are always a hit!

And…subscribed! We celebrate Christmas and Hanukkah – so I loved this story!
My top pick for stocking stuffers this year is new bath toys because we seem to have hit a rough patch with wanting to take baths around here.
My #1 stocking stuffer is a Barnes and noble gift card. My daughter and I are both total bookworms, and my husband is a movie buff, so it’s fun for the whole family.
my #1 stocking stuffer pick for my girls is fun kid jewelry. This year I got them both big light up rings
pinned!
The nail Polish!
My daughter will also be getting Frozen jewelry. I think Little People are my favorite stocking this year.
Mike is a man after my own heart. I’m a grandmother called Gizzy and we all know on Christmas that Gizzy has an eggnog in the morning with her coffee.
Love the band aids! I always put crayons or other art supplies in my kids’ stockings and of course chocolate and candy!
Subscribed 🙂
I love the eos lip balms and the mommy/ daughter matching socks.

Always an orange at the bottom of the stocking 🙂

I always stress over stocking stuffers and end up making them things like fun socks, chapsticks, and lottery tickets

Paw Patrol characters! My kids are obsessed. And, I hope they give me the carry-on cocktail kit for Chanukah. (I’ll take it in a stocking, too).
I’m a mommyshorts subscribers.
And, I’ve pinned the graphic!
Frozen bandaids is GENIUS! I’m adding that to the list. So far my oldest (4.5yrs) has been pretty thrilled to get new tooth brushes in his stocking. And new character underwear. Someday his joy over ninja turtle underwear and Monster’s Inc. toothbrushes will end, so I’m taking advantage of it while I can.
Definitely the Starbucks gift card

We always have an ornament in our stockings. May not be the most appropriate for people that don’t have a Christmas tree, but oh well.
My fav is def the cute matching mommy/baby socks! Those are so fun & silly. We always got a ton of candy & some random little toys. 🙂
We always have an orange in each stocking, as did my mother and my grandmother growing up. Everything else has changed but that tradition remains.
I pinned it: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/282249101622632718/
Longtime subscriber!!
My favorite is the bacon candy! Definitely need to find that for my husbands stocking
Pinned your stocking stuffers to Pinterest. 🙂
Already a subscriber. ♡ your blog.
My # 1 stocking stuffer pick has to be the Harmonica for my two-year old, who picks up random toys and pretends he has one. Then I would pick the gold nail polish for mommy!
I haven’t started doing stocking stuffers for my daughter yet, but the best one we get from our parents is and has always been cash.
Pinned!
I love the mother hen and baby chick mommy/baby matching socks!!! They are too cute!
I also subscribe to your weekly emails 🙂
I love the Frozen band aids! Pick me!
First, I’m Jewish and have divorced parents and I am a stepmother, and my bro & cousins all married catholics. My stocking stuffer envy was fueled with this post – I LOVED it for 1000 reasons! If I was going to do stocking stuffers, I would totally do these pickle band aids – the tin makes it feel more old school: http://www.amazon.com/Large-Pickle-Shaped-Adhesive-Bandages/dp/B00MMP9P3Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1418232592&sr=8-1&keywords=pickle+bandages
My favorite stocking stuffer would have to be the hen and chick socks. Hysterical, and I would probably wear them days in a row, because laundry is overrated.
My pick would have to be the cord catch. I am always fumbling around by my nightstand to find the end of that cord!! Whoever invented this is a genius!
OMG I love it. For your first time picking stocking stuffers, you did great! I’m grateful for Mike’s selection because now I have some excellent fresh ideas for my hubby — like bacon flavored candy, duh!

My first baby is due in February, so I don’t get to stuff her stocking until next year. But, what I loved that I got every year as a kid was my favorite candy (neon orange circus peanuts- so gross!) and a bag of pistachios.

#1 for my hubby is boxers. I get him new ones every year. My #1 for my son is little books – he loves them! For myself, I always like getting gift cards so I can take myself out for a little treat.
I love stocking stuffers- you don’t have to wrap them!.
My favorite stuffers when I was a child were in-the-shell walnuts. I sat around surrounded by presents, cracking open walnuts all morning. This is when I was about 7, I think. ha ha . I didn’t even open them with a soldier looking nutcracker, it was one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Good-Cook-Classic-Nutcracker-Picks/dp/B000BQP4TU/ref=lp_3737151_1_5/184-5446602-5854419?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1418248087&sr=1-5
Last year, my 5 year old son got a cube bot man in his stocking and he LOVED it.
This year, the toddler is getting a new toothbrush because I can’t figure out where his has gotten off to. (He only has like, 8 teeth so far).
I love this cord catch that you posted and now determined to get it snuck in my stocking! But my fallback is always coffee gift cards!
Our number one stocking stuffer is a glow stick. They are under $10, and the kids are mesmerized by pushing the button for various blinking modes. This also is a fabulous toy to bring out before a meltdown on an airplane!
For my son: kazoo! For my husband: pine-scented hand lotion. For my dad: oranges and walnuts (he’s very traditional). For my mom: seed-packet notebook. For my brother: funny mouse pad.
My 5 year old is obsessed with pandas so she will be most excited about the panda undies I found for her stocking and my 3 year old loves frogs so she will love the adorable froggie hair clip in her stocking!
Can I just have 3 entries with one post please.
My #1 stocking stuffer would be a book or a pair of headphones.
You have your own boards on my pinterest page.
I get the daily emails.
My kids would LOVE those Frozen Band-aids. But if they were to get the Band-aids, I would need some Advil – or a nice, stiff drink – in my stocking. Because my kids insist on looking at EVERY. SINGLE. BAND-AID in their unending quest for the perfect one. And then, in the end, it is too hard to pick just one, so we put beautiful band-aids on imaginary boo-boos as well.
Chocolate. You can’t have a Christmas stocking without chocolate.
I would love the dry bar gift card because I need a day of beauty…a stocking stuffer we must have is a small orange in the stocking. It is meant for good luck so put one in your babies’ stockings.
I also subscribe to weekly emails
A Lego ornament (clear plastic ornament filled with a mini Lego set) since my son is obsessed with Legos (and hence my daughter loves Legos too)

And a newsletter subscriber
I love getting Reese’s PB trees for stockings!
ChapStick and mints 🙂
