This should come as no surprise to anyone, but the winner (by a LANDSLIDE) of the Colossal Cake Smash Smackdown sponsored by Crumbs Bakeshop is our "Most Dramatic Smash", Miss I-Don't-Know-If-It's-Going-Up-Or-Going-Down, the Chocolate Meets Crinoline Spectacular… OLIVIA.
Seriously. Olivia was a late entry and somehow she managed to combine all four of the major categories (Best Shirtless, Messiest, Biggest Sugar Coma and Most Professional) into one fabulously caketacular photo.
Congratulations, Olivia! You won (and thoroughly deserve) an $100 Crumbs Bakeshop Gift Card so you can reenact your award winning smash a few times over. I'm sure your parents will be delighted. Also, I would like to take this opportunity to announce that I am restructuring my stock portfolio. I predict a sharp rise in chocolate, tulle and plastic drop cloths come Olivia's second birthday. (Don't say I didn't warn you!)
Besides the grand prize, four kids are going home with a deliciously huge Crumbs Colossal Cupcake ($42) for winning their respective rounds. They are (clockwise from right) Aiden, Zalie, Edward and Cheech. Plus I gave over 30 more kids awards like "Most Paranoid", "Most Religious" and "Best Headplant" in an album on the Mommy Shorts Fanpage.
And one final person will be going home with a Crumbs Colossal Cupcake selected randomly from the comments under Friday's post. And that person is…
Congratulations, Ashley. Feel free to eat your Colossal with a fork.
Which brings me to the last remaining prizes- five $18 Crumbs gift cards. April Peris won one of them in the first round, which left four up for grabs.
Last week, as part of the final round, I showcased a (very controversial!) photo of Sadie's smash asking everyone to fill in the blank: "This is for _______ !"
My four favorite captions get the prize.
Before I announce the winners, I took the liberty of using three captions (thank you Cheryl S, Julie and Breenah) to make up one SUPER CAPTION below:
But I had to give the gift cards to the following…
BriConstable: "This is for the complete and total shredding of my who-ha."
Brenna: "This is for looking just like your dead beat dad."
And lastly…
Julie Gardner: "This is for ELMO."
Indeed, Julie Gardner, indeed.
Thank you to everyone for participating— whether you submitted a photo, voted for your favorites, lurked in the shadows all creepy-like, etc. etc.
And a HUGE THANK YOU to Crumbs Bakeshop for supplying the prizes, donating all the cupcakes for Mazzy's birthday party and being a thoroughly awesome sponsor of Mommy Shorts.
Everyone, if you pass a Crumbs, go in and buy a cupcake. Tell them I sent you.
Then smash that yummy confection in your face like it's your very first birthday.
You won't regret it.

Ilana, can you tell Crumbs they need to open a store in Malaysia?
Congrats to all the winners!
OMG – it’s like she is eating the remains of a horrid evening full of debauchery! LOVE IT. This girl can come party at my house anytime (and she’d probably kick my tots ass)!
What an amazing photo – and congrats to all the winners!
This was great fun and a cautionary tale for parents considering that expensive tutu.
I’m a huge dork for not doing the “This is for . . . ” part of the caption contest because I am a trendsetter, a rule breaker, and also not always good with details. Like reading the rules. I’m condemned to having to order my own Crumbs baked goods with my own money. No, don’t cry for me. I’ll carry on.
I thought for sure I was in the running for my caption, but that might be because I was really tired when I wrote it, and I made myself laugh for about 5 minutes 🙂
Haha, the Deadbeat Dad caption is priceless! I would submit an “I hate Santa” photo but my two year old instantly took such a colossal dislike that if I had tried to wait the two seconds for the photo I am afraid would have had to commit her to a mental institution. She now has warmed up a bit to the fake Santa decorations everywhere but when she encounters the person turns to me and says “Momma? That Santa! (loud whisper) I Don’t Like Him!!”
And also I invited you to the Bloggess’ fake 2011 New Years Party for most fascinating people of 2011 (comment 260 or something like that) YOU’RE WELCOME! (P.S. ummmmm tho I may have also promised you would bring cupcakes). 😉
Wonderful captions! And Olivia totally wins it – no question. Great contest!
Maybe I’ll treat myself to a cupcake since you used mine in the photo and I feel mildly famous now. I’ll try to not let it go to my head.
SWEET! (For real, this time.)
Thanks, Ilana. And Elmo.
Oh yeah.
Oh my word, that Olivia likes her cake. And at least she dressed up for the occasion, before the shirt had to come off anyway. Well deserved, yes.
I’ll use part of my gift card to feed the less fortunate (Ninja Mom).
Please note this comment does not constitute an actual, legal contract.
I’m psyched! Thanks Mommy S.!
I will ask them. Not sure I have that much pull:)
I will totally challenge her to a chocolate eating contest. She might be willing to get her clothes dirty, but my hands are bigger.
Yeah- “This is for” was a crucial part of the contest. A lesson for next time. Just like for Olivia’s parents.
I loved your caption- especially since it felt like a private joke between the two of us. Very “early days of Mommy Shorts”.
Mazzy has taken to calling Santa— “The Same Man”. We’ve told her it’s Santa each time but I guess unless you are forever enforcing his existence at home (we’re Jewish), it’s in one ear and out the other.
Did you really??? That’s AMAZING! Thank you! Going to check it out now.
And I would totally bring the Bloggess cupcakes.
It was really close. I loved your caption but it worked best as part of the SUPER CAPTION. If you’re ever in NYC, I’ll buy you a cupcake.
You get major points for kicking me where it hurts.
Gotta wonder what that shirt looks like. Unless they decided not to put it on her from the get-go. Inspired styling, I’d say.
Thanks for the caption. HI-LARIOUS!
This is really a extremely beneficial read for me, Must admit you’re 1 in the finest bloggers I ever saw. Thanks for posting this informative article.
