Giveaway: 5 myCharge Razors + 5 $100 Visa Gift Cards
It’s funny how drastically your on-the-go necessities change when you have kids. Remember when all you needed was lipstick and a credit card hanging off your key ring? I didn’t even have a cell phone back then!
Now, I don’t just need my phone, I need an additional charger to make sure I have enough battery on my cell phone at all times. I need snacks at the ready to meet Mazzy’s demands at after school pick-up. I can’t leave the house without a sandwich baggie full of crayons and a coloring book just in case we ever stop for something to eat with the kids.
But don’t you go to work during the day?
I do. But if I take that baggie of crayons out, I will forget to put it back in and then the next time we are out to eat with the kids, my husband will look at me like I’ve failed at motherhood for forgetting the crayons.
I still carry a little make-up bag around, but in addition, I cart around a carrying case for diapers, wipes and cream. I’ve got a wallet which is so stuffed, it can barely close. I carry an assortment of hair bands and clips for various hair emergencies.
But that’s not even half of what I have in there. I dumped my purse and searched every inner and outer pocket for all the random goodies inside. Then I laid them all out on the floor so I could see what was what.
I separated everything into two categories— necessary items and unnecessary items. But I’ll warn you— there are many items that straddle both.
Things in My Purse I Can’t Live Without
• diaper carrying case (2) with diapers, wipes and diaper cream
• a coloring book (3)
• My overstuffed wallet (5) including my money, credit cards, Metrocard, license, health insurance cards for all the kids and various receipts for items I’ve been meaning to return since 2009
• Boogie Wipes (7)
• a myCharge razor (8)
• a sandwich baggie of crayons (9)
• keys that look like they belong to a super of a building (13)
• a nail file (15)
• Over the counter allergy medication (16)
• prescription cream for my eczema (21)
• cheddar bunnies for after school pick-up demands (20)
• my make-up bag with lipstick, under-eye concealer, eyeliner and mascara (23)
• baggie of crackers for secondary after school snack option (25)
• sunglasses (27)
• my new rainbow coffee cozy (28)
• a pack of tissues (29)
• headphones (30)
• a pen (33)
Things in My Purse I Could Probably Live Without
• a plastic baggie (1) with Anna’s boots and Elsa’s shoes and gloves inside (Mazzy took them off while we were out and said she no longer wanted them- we’ll see about that)
• Anna (4)
• Littlest Pet Shop figurine (6)
• a pack of Splenda (11)
• Tinkerbell (12)
• a ticket stub for the Mystic Aquarium (14)
• washi tape (17) – no idea where this came from or why it is there
• a drawing Mazzy made for me (18)
• a button that says “Macy’s Santaland” (19)
• Ariel (22)
• a lollipop (24) given to her by the teller at the bank and put in my bag for later (there will never be a later)
• a plastic knife (26)
• a letter to Mazzy’s new pen pal that I was supposed to put in the mail last week (31)
• Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle stickers Mazzy got at the doctor (32)
• two additional pens (34) to my one necessary pen (a fourth pen was in three pieces so I threw it out)
• Tattoos for a stuffed animal (35)
That appears to be it. Although, I should mention, in the past I’ve found a friend’s remote control in my bag (stolen by Harlow) and a pair of My Little Pony undies put there after an accident and then forgotten about until they dried on their own (ewwwwwwwwww).
And— the only reason why you see no random change is because my Metrocard ran out yesterday and I scrounged every last nook and cranny for $2.50 in change to get Mazzy and I to school on the public bus. I came up a dime short and a friendly stranger came to my aid, thank goodness.
After taking everything out of my bag, it is glaringly obvious that I should CLEAN OUT my bag. Lighten the load, if you will. Did I mention I cart around my laptop amid all that mess most of the time? It’s a wonder my right arm is still attached to my shoulder.
The one item (besides my phone and my wallet), I will definitely be returning to my bag is my super light ultar-thin myCharge Razor Plus. It takes up very little space and delivers 13 hours of additional talk time to my iPhone.
I have to say, since I’ve become a mom, I really can’t risk my phone battery dying. Before kids, the phone was used mostly to make plans to go out, but now I need it to communicate with Mike and our nanny about the kids throughout the day. I need the school to be able to contact me if necessary, I need the girls to be able to facetime with Grammy, I need to email back and forth with my co-workers while I’m shuttling the kids to various after school activities, I need something to entertain the kids if I’m stuck on line at the bank, I need to take a video of Harlow if she suddenly breaks out into song— you know, all the important stuff.
Have you ever been at a dance recital or a soccer game when your phone suddenly died? Murphy’s Law of Parenting is that’s when your kid will stick the landing or score a goal. HAPPENS EVERY TIME.
The fact is, my phone is now my lifeline. When I run out of battery, I panic. Having a myCharge on hand, whether it’s a Razor Plus or a HUB (which I always take on longer trips since it delivers 27 hours of additional battery power), makes me feel like my bag has an emergency back-up plan.

——————————–
This post was sponsored by myCharge, but my obsessive need to have my phone charged at all times is my own.
Most necessary – my bare minerals powder and coverup brush so I can look somewhat pulled together. Most unnecessary – the Hello Kitty magnet that came with last year’s valentines that attracts bobby pins and so I just continue to leave it…even though I don’t use bobby pins with my current hairstyle…
The most necessary is probably my phone. The least necessary is the duplicate tubes of Carmex.
I’ll assume a phone, wallet, and keys are all part of the deal already, so aside from those 3…
Most – diaper!
Least – Junk mail from the past 3 days of mail.
Most necessary item: Tylenol to assure I can tackle the day without unwanted distractions (headaches).
Most unnecessary item: used gift card from our weekend outing.
Most necessary – wallet, hand sanitizer, Hot Wheels for entertaining my son. Least necessary – receipts. So many receipts.
most necessary: driver’s license
least necessary: 10 different lipglosses/lipsticks
Diapers and wipes!
most necessary – tissues and my phone
least necessary – 2 bottles of bubbles I keep saving for “an emergency” bubble blowing moment.
The most necessary item always seems like the entire purse, no matter how much it weighs! But honestly, the most important item is my wallet (I tend to keep my phone in my pocket).
The least necessary item is the Michael Kors tag/card that I never got rid of!
Most necessary: chapstick and a plastic bag, for emergency puke situations (comes in handy more than you’d think).
Most unnecessary: prayer cards from wakes. What are you supposed to do with them after you have them? It feels messed up to throw them out, but I don’t *use* them, so in the purse they live.
Most necessary item-diaper/wipes
Least necessary-the tampon my son dug out and unwrapped and stuck up his nose while at a friend’s house. I totally forgot to throw it away and it’s been buried at the bottom:)
most necessary item ,especially as of late, my phone with my dunkin donuts perks app. most unnecessary item, the bright green clip on hair that my daughter got from the treasure chest for being a good girl at the dentist.
Most necessary: my house key
Most unnecessary: that’s a toss up – the skeleton keys I bought with the good intention of turning them into “santa keys” in October – or the Junie B Jones the Musical ticket stub from November
One necessary thing in my purse is my wallet and the most unnecessary thing I have is used disposable straws that my daughter thinks is hilarious to include in my purse.
My most necessary item is probably my water bottle (also a bag of cheerios – both for my toddler and my morning sickness). My most unnecessary item is probably the two additional water bottles in there (1 empty, 1 half full)
Most important- keys and calendar book
Least important- rewards club cards
The most necessary thing in my purse/diaper bag is definitely my wallet. If I forget something for the kids and need it badly, I can always buy it. The most unnecessary thing is definitely that roll of film left over from our wedding 6 YEARS ago that hasn’t been developed yet and a disposable camera that my now 3 year old took pictures with when he was about 2 and hasn’t been developed yet! This mom rocks! lol

The most important thing in my purse is my wallet and my diaper pouch. It has two diapers and a small pack of wipes. I can go just about anywhere with those two items. The unnessaciry item would be the partially eaten candy cane. It’s been in there for weeks and no one is gonna finish it and even tho I have cleaned my purse out three times it still remains.
i just tweeted
most important: candy bars and snacks
least important: headphones….i don’t have music on my phone.
Most NEEDED: Wallet, keys & phone
LEAST needed: old coupons, receipts, grocery lists & kids snack wrappers!
MUST ADD: myCharge…better than carrying around the plug in cord!
Necessary… It’s a tie between diapers, wipes, and my wallet. All equally important. Least necessary? Lipstick. Seriously, I wear it once a month at most.
The most necessary item in my bag is my wallet. The least necessary thing would have to be the lollipop from the bank 2 weeks ago. Oops!
I subscribed! The most necessary item in my purse is my pain killers for the migraine. The least necessary items are old receipts, chocolate wrappers and all sorts of junks.
Most necessary: phone (but, I can’t live without my special cocoa butter lip balm, either!)
Least necessary: the 25(!!!! Yup, 25) other lipsticks, chapsticks, lip glosses floating around in my purse. I can’t bring myself to lighten that load, though–you never know when you might NEED the perfect hot pink pout at a moment’s notice!
The most necessary items would have to be my wallet & keys. The least absolute necessary items would have to be the abnormal amount of Chinese fortunes from fortune cookies crumbled up & the old toothpicks that I pick up at the front desk of restaurants when leaving.
Most necessary: phone and sunglasses! At least here in FL.
Least necessary: the huge bag of make up including foundation and tweezers!!
Most necessary, debit card. Most unnecessary? My cat’s stool sample I have to bring to the vet later.
My most necessary item is my wallet, least essential ketchup packets.
Most necessary – Carmex, because I tend towards dry lips and then they turn into a crack and then a herp!
Least necessary – Eyeliner, because I have used it to label a Solo cup at the last party I was at and I have never used it on my eye!
Most necessary: Burt’s Bee’s tinted lip balm (okay, fine, wallet, but that’s boring)
Least necessary: used tissue that I shoved in there b/c there’s no trash can on the train and I didn’t want to put it in my jacket pocket with the clean ones
My most important thing is my Kindle, it keeps the kids busy without having to give them my phone, and its also nice to have if I have a few minutes to kill or have to wait for something. My least necessary is a pouch/protector that I have for the bigger tablet. I never take the actual tablet with me, but for some reason I can never remember to take the cover out of my purse. I just end up sticking receipts and stuff in there.
The most necessary thing in my purse is my emergency $5. I don’t know how many times I’ve had to use it because I forgot my actual wallet in my diaper bag, or my work bag or on the silly kitchen counter! Must unnecessary thing in my purse is definitely the charger to my son’s old iPad that I’ve been meaning to give to my mom since we have her the old iPad 6 months ago!
2 old grocery lists & an empty klenex travel plastic & empty ziploc baggie & excessive amount of receipts are the unnecessary items….I need to clean out the purse. My wallet….once I clean out the extra reciepts & put the random cash & gift cards that are all over my purse….again….I NEED TO CLEAN OUT MY PURSE…..ugh
i tweeted: I just entered to win one of five @myChargePower Razors and five $100 Visa gift cards from @mommyshorts! http://bit.ly/15al2lZ
I don’t have a purse or diaper bag anymore! Just a iPhone case that holds my driver’s license and a few credit cards. So the cards are the most important, the spare leftover receipt less so. I do however have a bag in the car that always has wipes, craft kits, and bendy straws (because restaurants never have them for kids!).
Most necessary thing in my purse are the diapers/wipes and wallet. The least necessary is the cracker wrappers and toy trucks.
The most necessary items in my purse are my wic checks, those things are a life saver when you’re out of money for the week and still need milk! I could live without the random pen that exploded all over the place.
I can’t leave home without my iPhone and wallet… the least necessary is the stack of old receipts I have at the bottom of my purse.

I commented on you FB page https://www.facebook.com/mommyshorts/posts/1020985311248611
I signed up. The most necessary is my phone, the least necessary is a buckeye, and some seeds.
most necessary: wallet with the many babies r us gift cards I have received, I never know when the mood may strike to shop there. Must unnecessary, a small rubber chicken which is meant to be a wine bottle topper. I got it as a secret santa gift and it makes random appearances in pictures from time to time
I commented on your FB post as Rust Hawk.
I tweeted – https://twitter.com/rusthawk/status/559007819211759616
Most: keys to transport my children all around Colorado
Least: my losing bet ticket from the Mandalay sports book from Dec.
Most necessary is the folding potty seat, extra pants, and bribe candy. Three guesses which stage we’re in. Least necessary is the dried out imaginink marker, which goes to a book we no longer have.
Facebook commented and tweeted! 🙂
Most Important: Debit card Least Important: expired Bath and BodyWorks coupon.
The most necessary items currently in my purse are dum dum suckers, and heartburn meds, haha! The least necessary item is expired coupons and I have a ton of them in there for some reason.
The most important thing in my purse (aka diaper bag) is my daughter’s epipen, obviously… the least would be the handful of half smashed cheddar bunnies I found at the bottom.
Gave up on purses and diapers bags. I carry my wallet in my pocket and keep diapers and wipes in the car. I put a change of clothes in a drawstring bag for our newly potty trained toddler.
The most necessary thing in my purse are my keys. The least necessary thing in my purse would have to be the gum.
Most important my starbucks card..lol
least important tons of receipts
Most necessary: my wallet
Least necessary: Candy. My son is finally working on wearing underwear so he doesn’t need his potty treats anymore.
My important necessity in my purse: keys which I use to drive my dad’s car.
Least important Necessity in my purse: Lifesaver candy for snack on
Most necessary: snacks. The mother load of all snacks for three always hungry pirates
Most unnecessary: dental floss (who flosses in the car??) And broken toys. So. Many. Broken. Toys. Because, really, I might get sound to fixing them today. Cough. Cough.
Necessary (after wallet)- washcloth for wiping everything from rain off of swings to Cheetos mess off of toddler’s face in public. Least necessary- grocery receipts! I have a million of them and the store can find my purchases with the card I used if I need to return something. They pile up for weeks until I go crazy and purge everything!
I signed up, tweeted, and facebooked.
The most necessary item in my purse is my phone (which I discovered when I got rear ended by someone with no insurance and no way to call the cops, is super important to have on hand).
The least important thing(s) in my purse are toss-ups between the “I voted today” sticker from 2008, and the movie stub from Jarhead (2005) which I cannot seem to bring myself to toss.
I think I need a new purse.
Signed up!
Most important – the iPhone that works as a DJ, GPS, kid entertainer, weather checker, etc.
Least important – an old dusty pacifier that my son hasn’t used in over a year…
The most necessary thing in my purse besides the obvious wallet, is baby wipes. I use them everywhere for many more reasons than just to wipe up my kids. Least necessary object would be my daughters medal from her sports class.
My most necessary object in my bag, besides the obvious wallet would be baby wipes. I go through those like crazy and use them for way more than cleaning my kids! My least necessary object is a broken fish from my kids go fishing game. Not sure how that ended up in there!

I currently don’t own a purse but a diaper bag lol so I’d say my most necessary item would be diapers and least necessary item would be a screw driver that I have no clue how it got in there.
I left a comment on your facebook post & also tweeted. https://twitter.com/cdhabolt/status/560094893544980480

most necessary: a package of fruit snacks (they can fix anything happening with my 2 year old)
least necessary: an empty envelope that once held a gift certificate for massage (which was very necessary)
Most necessary besides the obvious wallet/keys would be tampons because when you need em, you need em. Least necessary is a toss up between a miniature Anna figurine dress (not the doll just the skirt wtf?) or two crayons swiped from red lobster, well I am assuming red lobster due to the little lobsters on em.
