I debated writing this post, because this is a new development that I suspect will only get better. But just in case this new phase of sisterhood ends abruptly tomorrow, I don't want to forget it.
Mazzy has started narrating Harlow's inner thoughts.
The premise is this:
Harlow is a baby, therefore she has no idea what is going on.
It works like this:
Harlow, Mazzy and I all get into an elevator. There are three other people inside. Mazzy says, "Harlow's like… who are all these people? I've never seen them before!"
Then everyone laughs. Even the other people in the elevator who can't know what the hell Mazzy is talking about. They don't know Harlow's name. They might think Mazzy is speaking in the third person. Regardless, they laugh. Which makes Mazzy do it again and again and again.
So far, it has not gotten old.
It started like this:
I was talking to Harlow as I was getting ready in the morning. Just narrating what I was putting on and why, like you are supposed to do with babies so they are exposed to speech and language. It's something I did a lot with Mazzy when she was a baby and I feel like I haven't done enough with Harlow. Hence, the whole not-talking-yet thing.
Anyway, as Harlow stood in my closet (she loves it in there), I was blabbering on and on about my choice of shoes and whether I should wear pants or a dress when suddenly Mazzy interrupted.
"Harlow's like… WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT, MOM??? I don't understand what you are saying!"
She had a point.
"Harlow's helping me decide whether I should wear pants or a dress."
Mazzy wasn't buying it.
"Harlow's like… WHAT ARE PANTS, MOM???"
I wish I could make you hear Mazzy's intonation correctly. It's like sarcasm X 5.
It snowed the other day and Mazzy and Harlow were watching in front of the window.
"Harlow's like… what is all this white stuff? Where did it come from???"
We went to the grocery store.
"Harlow's like… where are we? Why is there food everywhere???"
We got into the car.
"Harlow's like… why am I buckled into this seat? Where are we going???"
I'm not sure how this is going to play out, but I suspect, as with most things, Mazzy will find a way to work it to her advantage. For instance, let's imagine, sometime in the future, I give them both a cookie.
Then Mazzy could say:
"Harlow's like… I don't need a cookie. You should give both cookies to Mazzy!"
Or maybe I will find a way to work it to my advantage. For instance, let's say Mazzy is throwing a fit about something ridiculous.
Then I could say:
"Harlow's like… what is Mazzy so worked up about? It's just a television. She can watch it tomorrow!"
It will be like our own little passive aggressive dance.
MAZZY: "Harlow's like… why can't Mazzy just go to bed later? What's the big deal?"
ME: "Harlow's like… why can't Mazzy just listen to Mommy? I'm sure she has really good reasons for everything she does!"
Or perhaps the best scenario of all is if Mazzy and I get into a huge battle of "Harlow's like…" and then Harlow suddently chimes in with her first sentence ever.
"Harlow's like… stop putting words in my mouth!"
That will be the dawn of a whole new era of sisterhood.
Should get interesting.

For Mother’s Day I want all of my gross carpets professionally cleaned, and a spa day π
for MD I want a new couch
What I really what for Mother’s Day is to day drink in 70F weather pool or ocean side…is that too much to ask?! (Side note, I live in Michigan where it’s still regularly in the 40’s!)
What I really want for Mother’s Day – honestly nothing! At least nothing store bought. A nice quiet day with the family and a nice home cooked meal – and everyone in bed early!
2 hours home alone then a wonderful outing with my family
What I would really like for Mother’s Day is a homemade craft from the kiddos (with help from hubby), flowers that I can plant later, and a pedicure (okay, really a whole spa day, but I most want the pedicure). Oh and no screaming or curt voices from anyone. Too much to ask? #MomDreams
For Mother’s Day this year I would love for my children to sleep later than 6am so that I can sleep in. Also, brunch for my family made by my husband then a relaxing afternoon of naps, snuggles with the kids and maybe a little me time to get my nails done.
This post is hilarious!
For Mother’s Day I’d like a week off! Ha! Won’t happen with a 4 yo, 2 yo and 4 month old, but one can dream!
I would love for someone to come clean my house from TOP TO BOTTOM…. I work 12 hour days, 5 days a week and there isn’t enough time to get home, make dinner and then clean… I try to enjoy to 2 hours with my daughter every night… So, if someone would clean my place, that would definately feel like a LOAD OFF MY SHOULDERS π
This Mother’s Day and like all mothers days I continue to ask for a clean house and either a chance to sleep in at least til 10 or be able to take a long nap after brunch/lunch my family fixes me. Oh to dream….sighhhh!
For Mother’s Day, I’d love hot coffee that I get to drink while hot, a nap, and a FitBit so I can physically see the amount of craziness that goes into chasing my 4-year old around all day. Alas, I’m a single mom so it’ll be more like a homemade card and macaroni jewelry- and I’ll probably get more wear out of my macaroni necklace than a FitBit anyway! π
For Mothers Day I would love a full night of sleep and then a really long shower with no interruptions from little fists banging in the door or little faces peaking in yelling for mommy.
What I’d love for Mothers Day is a fun day with my husband and 3 year old son! No tantrums, no picky eating, no “but I don’t wannas”. Just a fun day with the three of us with no drama!
All I want for Mother’s Day is for someone to clean all th snacks and spills out of my car! I remember having nice things….
What I really want for Mother’s Day is to not feed anyone all weekend! I don’t care if my husband cooks, or we go out to eat but I want to be off duty in the kitchen! This goes for cleaning the kitchen too!!
For my husband to remember any of the million things I would like instead of him saying he doesn’t know what I have would like π
For Morhers Day, I want to sleep in and wake up to a clean house, all meals to be made and my son to be well behaved. Not too much to ask, right?
Sleep
For Mother’s Day I would like a nap!
For this Mother’s Day, I want to be able to like my mother again. ?
For Mother’s Day, I’d like a necklace that has my boys’ birthstones on it. Ideally, I’d like to sleep in but with a 2 year old and a nursing 4 month old, that won’t happen.
All I want for Mother’s Day is sleep, uninterrupted sleep!
My husband is leaving on his first BIG business trip (to China) on Mothers Day for a week (he will also be missing my birthday)
What I want for Mother’s Day & Birthday is for safe and easy travels for my hubs and my two darling girls (ages 1 & 3) to please go easy on me! I’m terrible at the single mom gig and do not know how all the single parents out there do it every day (you have my undying admiration and respect and many hugs because single parents are amazingly strong superheroes!)
?
I am getting my Mother’s Day wish! My husband is taking our 3 year old twin boys to see his family in Iowa (I have to work). But on Sunday, I will be home alone in a quiet house. I’ll miss my boys- but I am looking forward to the peace. π
For Mother’s Day I want to spend time with my daughter and husband wing outside and active…without my MIL bc I’ve had to share MD for the last 4 years and I want one for me ?
For Mother’s Day I’d love to spend the day on our boat, just relaxing in the sunshine and laughing with my family. <3
For Mother’s Day I would like pizza and a nap:)
All I want for Mother’s Day is the house to myself. I can sleep in, binge watch TV without having to pause it, and just enjoy being alone in quiet and not having to get up to anything for anyone!!!
I am not a mom but I do nanny and work in an elementary school so all I want from these “kids” is no sass for one day. If they gave me flowers, I’d be cool with that too π
For Mother’s Day I would love to take an uninterrupted nap!
For Mother’s Day, I’d really just like an uninterrupted trip to the bathroom! Lately both my daughters insist on squeezing themselves in with me and closing the door, then they proceed to argue about who gets to ration out my toilet paper. ?
This year for Mother’s Day, I would like a magic vaccine that makes my 2.5 year old act like an rational human being anytime I am sick. I can handle the toddler antics when I am feeling well, but everyone ends up screaming and crying when I am sick and have no patience.
For Mother’s Day I’d like… to sleep in, breakfast made by hubby and to sit around and relax all day; no cleaning or cooking!
What I really want for mothers day – to not have to cook, clean, and entertain my daughter all day long (just a little bit though!) while watching my husband playing video games!
What I really want for Mother’s Day is for my girls (4 and 1 1/2) to finally love eachother! Like your girls! There are days where they want to see who can annoy eachother the most and very few days where they show a liking to eachother for a few minutes. Hopefully they grow together as they grow up!
Would love some extra hours in the day please…
What I would love for Mothers Day, is a day without meltdowns and time to spend with my family, enjoying my children’s laughter, not worrying about anything
For Mother’s Day, I want a Belgian waffle and a cup of coffee and the time to enjoy both while they are still hot.
For Mother’s Day this year, I really want to sleep in and for my almost 2 and 6 year olds to get along like the perfect angels that they are in my dreams!
I’d love to just spend the day with my husband and son, but hubby is a chef, so I’ll settle for a day during the week!
For Mother’s Day, I would love eight hours of solid sleep. The end.
For mothers day I really want to not have to step foot in the kitchen all day!! ?
I really want a pedicure and massage.
For Mother’s Day, I want magic! I want to sleep in and just pay attention to our unborn child moving around and cherish the moment of the last time I will be growing a person while my husband keeps our 8-month-old and 3-year-old quiet and wake up to.the scent of a delicious breakfast that is not one bit healthy. And wish him luck for next year when i ask him to tame a third child as well. Is that too much? Shoot for the moon!
I would like to spend time with my husband and daughter for mother’s day outdoors exploring. We don’t get to do that very often together since my husband travels a lot.
For Mothers Day, I want concert tickets. Lumineers to be exact. And a babysitter so I can enjoy a date night with my hubby! =)
I was just thinking I could use a microdermabrasion/facial device
For Mother’s Day I would really love a day outside on our new patio. It has been so cold and gloomy (and our yard is still unfinished for the year) but a beautiful day on the patio would be wonderful!
For Mother’s Day I love the different craft projects the kids make at school. That’s the thing I look forward to reach year. They kids are airways so proud of what they made. Also it would be nice to sleep in!!!
For Mother’s day I’d like to go get coffee, go on a family bike ride and have minimal time with the inlaws π
I would like a day with my husband and daughter, but it has to be whine free..not wine free though.
For Mother’s Day I want to sleep in then have cinnamon French toast for breakfast. I’d love to have a day without whining.
What I would like for Mother’s Day is SLEEP! My 19 month old has a Terrible cold and allergies, so she has been sleeping in bed with mommy! As a working mother, I have been exhausted!!
What I really want for Mother’s Day? I’d love for my husband to remember and actually get me a card or a small gift. That’d be swell.
For Mother’s Day, I would love for the baby to sleep all night and the big kids to sleep in. Someone else will fix breakfast and clean up after and then hubby will take the kids for the day and I can have a relaxing kid free day!
I really want to get to sleep in, in a perfectly soundproofed room so I cant hear my daughter asking for me, then get up and have breakfast with my family and go for a walk with lots of coffee. Then during nap time, while someone else cleans and prepares food for the week, Ill go get a massage and come back in time to play with my daughter until dinner and bath time.
What I really want? A trip to Disney World with my girlfriends. No kids. Just sleeping in as late as we want, doing whatever we want, and eating whatever we want π
For my first official mother’s day I would like to sit somewhere with a beautiful view say like, the coast of southern France perhaps. With a glass of dry rose while someone gives me a pedicure. There should also be all my favorite foods at my fingertips and of course I look amazing and fit. Or, just a day where my clothes don’t have any puke, boogers or other bodily fluid stains on them and my hair looks halfway decent. That would be pretty good too. ?????????
What I really want for Mother’s Day is for someone else to clean my house while we spend the day at the beach (mimosa in hand and the kids don’t put any sand on me or ask me to get in the freezing water)!
For Mothers Day I want a pedicure and a good martini!
A pedicure and a clean kitchen(that I didnt have to clean!)
What I would really like for Mother’s Day is a day where I can both take a shower and get dressed without interruptions by the kids (1.5 & 5) or the dog without having to ask my hubby to corral them before hand.
Brunch with the fam and a ring from Silo Silver Jewelry would be ok π
For Mother’s Day I would like to go the entire day without hearing my 2 year old daughter whine or have a tantrum. Is that too much to ask for?!? ? It might be…
What I want for Mother’s Day is to sleep in and the birthstone ring for my youngest that I still haven’t gotten.
what I would like for mothers day is just a low key day with my girls and husband maybe lunch someplace and a massage but hubby works in the restaurant industry so its usually me and the girls and the usual cooking, cleaning and laundry !!
For Mother’s Day I really want a mani/pedi and bottomless mimosas
What I really want for mothers day is a giggle from my almost 7 week old and a dinner reservations at my 3.5 year old famous wood food restraunt and a card where he signs his name that he has only recently learned how to write on his own.
Oh and sleep. Some sleep would be great.
A massage that ends when I say it ends instead of some 60 or 90 minutes.
What do I really want for Mother’s Day? For the kids to do what I ask them to do the FIRST time I ask them to do it, and for my husband to help out without being asked π I have an amazing husband and kids but sometimes they are just oblivious!
For Mother’s day I would love a nice quiet dinner with the whole family. Where everyone is taken care of and no one needs anything. A massage would be nice too π
For Mother’s Day, I’d really like a vacation to someplace sunny! Barring that, I’d take a day to read in the sun without being bothered for myself. π
What I want for mother’s day is to sleep in without getting up at night with my newborn, brunch with my family, and alone time!
For Mother’s Day i would like to spend it with my husband and two daughters…this and a nap…or two π
By the way, I always enjoy reading these old posts!
Loved this!!!
As I was on my way this school this morning I saw a sign of a missing kid (there are signs and flyers and stuff all over the city looking for that poor little boy) and I imagined what his mom must be going trough,, for mother’s day I wish for that mom to be reunited with her child… for all moms with missing children to be reunited with them
What I want for Mothers Day is a relaxing day, either at home or out somewhere with my daughter and husband. I usually work on weekends, so family days are rare. So I’m pretty excited to be off this whole weekend coming up!
For Mother’s Day, I would just like to SLEEP IN (700 am would be really nice) and then have a nice backyard barbecue with the family in the afternoon.
I’m so glad you brought us back to this post. This is before I started reading your blog regularly, so I had missed it. My sisters and I are 33, 31, 28 and we still do this to/for each other! π
For Mothers’ Day I would like a clean house and to do some gardening. We have some roses that are dying to get planted – late April snow up here in Maine has post-poned gardening season!
What I want for mother’s day – a nap
a full night of uninterrupted sleep followed by a picnic with my boys!
I know I should choose something that would be pampering or be somewhat self indulgent given its the one day we are supposed to be selfish, but with a sick kiddo at home for the past week, I would be over the moon if she were in good health by the time Mother’s Day cones around. Healthy kid trumps a gift everytime.
For Mother’s Day, I’d really like to have a day without stress. My 8 yr old twins have “issues” and we deal with anxiety and ocd on a daily basis. I would love for my boys to get a break from themselves, to experience life without the negative thoughts that pop into their heads. The gift for me would be not having to worry about how they’ll react to things throughout the day.
For Mother’s Day I want my 11 month old to sleep past 5:45 am…
It may sound bad but I am currently 36 weeks pregnant and for Mother’s Day I think all I want is a me day. I would love to get a message and a pedicure and just have alone time. I can spend every other day with my 3 year old and husband π
For Mother’s Day, as cliche as it sounds, I want sleep. Like, college years, no obligations, sleep until noon and not have anywhere to be kinda sleep. … And a tan, I want enough time and resources to lay by the pool like I did in college and get a tan.
For Mother’s Day I would love to just sit on the beach with an adult beverage, some good tunes and my Kindle. But alas, I’ll be hosting a mother’s day brunch for my two grandmothers (who hate each other), my mother in law, my mom, my pregnant sister (the latter two who are not speaking due to my sister’s “predicament”) and some aunts, uncles, cousins, my loving husband and my precocious toddler. Fun times!
For Mother’s Day, I’d like a day to do nothing! Just relax and have no responsibilities… and a massage and pedicure!
For mother’s day, I’d love a silly filling brunch with my hubby and little man, and then maybe a nap in the sun in our backyard! And of course, some adorable homemade item from my son! Oh, and to watch Game of Thrones uninterrupted!!!
For Mother’s Day, I would like a clean house!
What do I really want for mothers day? Hmm. Option 1 is a house completely by myself for a few hours, where I don’t have to do anything but sit and watch tv, or read a good book. Option 2 would be to go somewhere and have a blast with my kids and husband, and not have to listen to my girls bicker and fight. If they could get along for just one day, it would be great.
All I really want for mother’s day to feel appreciated and listened to. Maybe some coffee and desert too.
What I’d really like for Mother’s Day is to have an organized home. I’m realistic that I have two kids but just having a place for everything would be amazing! We live in a two bedroom apartment and space is limited. Not having my own washing machine/dryer is also a bum so having one of those also would be amazing. ? Yet on the other hand, I’m just super grateful I have been blessed with two beautiful children.
For Mother’s Day, I would love a relaxing massage!!!
What I really want for Mother’s Day is an uninterrupted day with my family! No chores, no grocery shopping, no errands – just a day in the sunshine to enjoy each other! (And if there was a glass of wine in my hand I wouldn’t complain!)
This will be my fourth Mother’s Day. On my second Mother’s Day, I went to a Backstreet Boys concert with my best friend. She had tickets in the Pit. I was able to touch all of 5 of them. At one point, I groped Nick Carter’s leg and he had to kick me in the face so that I could let go. Security threatened to kick me out so many times.
For this Mother’s Day, I want a re-do of my second Mother’s Day. I want to get kicked in the face by a Backstreet Boy.
Silhouettes of my little girls… But I would probably have to give it to myself or give very detailed instructions to my husband…
What I really want for mothers day is my yard to be DONE! I want beautiful flowers planted and some pretty planters in my front porch. Think that’s too much to ask for? I don’t either, let’s see if it happens. Oh, and what I REALLY want is April’s swag! Maybe this is my lucky month?!
I would like a day where my children listen to what I say, eat what I cook, and take a long nap…we can dream, right??
I’m a stepmom to two girls, 11 and 14… what I’d really like for Mother’s Day is for them to remember that Mother’s Day is for me too, without their father reminding them or doing it for them.
For Mother’s Day I would love to not make or plan dinner. I’d love to come home to dinner ready for me (no planning, no purchasing, no driving to get it, no cooking!). π Hubby is working that night, and my boys are only 3 and 6- so that probably isn’t going to happen. Happy Mother’s Day all!
