GIVEAWAY: $100 Gift Card to Fawn Shoppe
After Mazzy and Harlow's modeling debacle two weeks ago, you would think my daughters' days in the cutthroat world of children's fashion would be over. Nope! Someone decided to give them another shot.
Fawn Shoppe, an online children's boutique that sells designs from all around the world, deemed Mazzy and Harlow their new muses and had me pick out some pieces for them to wear.
And by "wear", I mean "put the clothes on their bodies", a concept which has become increasingly difficult for Mazzy to understand.
I selected two outfits for each of them. Tops and bloomers for Harlow and two dresses for Mazzy.
When they arrived, I put Harlow in a deliciously delicate Amelia blouse with matching pink bloomers. She may have thrashed around on the changing table so the act of "putting on clothing" took several more minutes than necessary, but in the end, I know she was glad to be fully dressed.
Mazzy immediately fell in love with a purple halter dress from Stun. We went to the MoMA for the day and she danced and pranced around like she owned the place.
I breathed a sigh of relief that this modeling gig would go much better than the last.
NOTE: Never breathe a sigh of relief when you are only halfway finished with the task at hand. Especially when it involves a three-year-old.
The next day, I put Harlow in a simple white Amelia blouse with buttons down the back paired with ruffled Rickshaw bloomers.
After almost passing out from the cuteness, I presented Mazzy with a gorgeous bouquet print dress from Rachel Riley.
MAZZY: I want to wear the purple dress.
ME: But you wore that yesterday.
MAZZY: I want to wear the purple dress!
ME: But look how pretty THIS dress is…
MAZZY: I WANT TO WEAR THE PURPLE DRESS!!!
This is the point where I can a) learn to pick my battles or b) fight with Mazzy until she wins. Both results are the same. One just seems like I am making an intentional parenting choice.
I decided to pick my battles. So, Mazzy wore the purple dress once again.
I figured the next day Mazzy would suddenly fall in love with the Rachel Riley dress and all would be well.
Nope. Day Three was a repeat of Day Two.
I decided to let it go for a few days. I didn't mention the dress at all. Just left it hanging up in her room in case she had a change of heart. She didn't mention it either.
Finally, I thought enough time had passed where I could bring it up again and maybe Mazzy wouldn't remember she ever had an issue with it.
DAY SEVEN
ME: Hey, Mazzy.
I said all casual like.
ME: Want to wear the pretty flowered dress today?
MAZZY: The purple dress?
ME: No, this BEAUTIFUL white one.
I motioned elaborately to the dress like I was showing off a Jaguar at a car show.
MAZZY: No.
ME: But it's SOOOOOOO PRETTY.
MAZZY: No!
ME: What if you just put it on, let me take a picture and then you can put on something else?
MAZZY: NOOOOO!!!
Alright. The last thing I wanted to do is get into an argument over something silly. I contacted Fawn Shoppe and told them about my dilemma. They said, not to worry— all moms can relate to their daughter refusing to put on an item of clothing.
I hung the dress in her closet, sadly shut the door and prepared to write the post regardless.
Then something amazing happened.
DAY FOURTEEN
Mazzy ran up to me holding the dress in her hand.
MAZZY: Mom, do you know why I don't want to wear the dress?
ME: Why?
MAZZY: Because there is a tag on it.
ME: What? Really? I can take the tag off.
MAZZY: OKAY!
I snipped the tag off.
ME: Now you'll wear the dress…?
MAZZY: YAY!!!!!!!!
I am about 105% positive that the existence of a tag had nothing to do with Mazzy snubbing the Rachel Riley dress for two weeks. But, sometimes things happen in the brains of preschool-aged children that adults just can't understand.
Mazzy whipped her pajamas off and put her hands up in the air so I could pull the dress over her head. It looked adorable.
Then she danced and pranced around like she owned the place.
And, of course, the next day she asked to wear the dress AGAIN.

UPDATE: Congratulations to Chohertz! She's going to try and wrestle away her daughter's "My Little Pony t-shirt that has been washed so many times one of the ponies has peeled off" in exchange for some designer clothes. Please email me at ilana@mommyshorts.com to claim your prize.
My daughter has a tie dye shirt she made at a birthday party that is an adult sized shirt so fits her like a dress. She calls it her “dreamcoat” and refuses to wear anything else to sleep at night. All those cute jammies? Nope. need the dream coat.
My daughter has a Dora T-shirt from her aunts trip to vagas. Its old it is to small and it has a chocolate stain, but any time she sees it she MUST wear it…. I try to keep it at the bottom of the hamper 🙂
With my son it isn’t so much something he wears that I would like to get rid of, it’s the fact that he would much rather prefer to wear nothing at all. It’s a fight to get him to dressed and as soon as we walk in the door, poof, his clothes are off. I’ve finally caved and he can be pantsless, but the shirt must stay on.
At 15 months, my daughter thankfully doesn’t have much of an opinion on her clothes yet!

Your kids are all kinds of adorable!
I have a few pieces I should get rid of. My 21 month loves her pink horse pajama shirt that reads, “party animal”. It’s so worn that it has faded to a gross pink and has stains all over it. And of course since it is a pajama shirt she has to wear it during the day.
Pinned!
My child doesn’t wear clothes, haha!! Most days she runs around in a diaper and that’s it. When we go out, I have no problems dressing her 🙂
My daughter is in love with a passed down shirt from her cousin. It is a Johnny Depp and Pirates of the Caribbean shirt. She’s 5! Never seen the movie! But she just knows that it is “COOL”!
I would love to get rid of my daughter’s pink crocs. UGH

A pair of “jeggings” that are 2 sizes to small covered in stains and holes in both knees! I’m not sure why she refuses to wear any other pants!

For my son it would be his ratty superman pjs. Actually he just wears the shirt and cape with his undies- no pants! My daughter has an Elmo shirt that she wants to wear everyday. When she doesn’t want Elmo she picks the Mickey shirt. I would get rid of them but I just can’t deal with the tantrum that would take place!
Yes that’s fine! I’m pinning it now.
I tweeted and pinned to win! Twitter name: mollycrooks and pinterest name: mollymoore13 Thank you for this opportunity to dress our kids the way we want 😉
Right now, my son ONLY wants to wear his winter pajamas . . . It is summer in WI, very warm, and he sweats like crazy (even when not wearing the winter jammie’s!)!
My daughter tends toward bright and glittery and she has a t-shirt that is a bit over the top that I can’t wait to retire.

i have a 4 year old boy that refuses to wear pants or shorts that aren’t elastic waisted. so all of his clothes i would like to get rid of. of course he is in daycare all day, so he doesn’t really dress up. but i LOVE that paper airplane shirt they have, and i know he would too. so if i don’t win, i just might have to get it for him!
ps. i tweeted and posted on pinterest.

My daughter wears an UGLY dress my Mother-in-law wore when she was little! Of all the things to hand down. =S
Goddamn princess dress!
My daughter’s still young enough that I choose all her clothes, so I don’t want to toss anything. I do wish she wouldn’t freak out when she can’t wear her Batman t-shirt though.

My 4yo daughter loves tights. She want to wear them with absolutely everything! And even if it’s 90 degrees outside!
All things he has “camp”!!
All things he has that are “camo”!
I was finally able to sneak the size 2 (my daughter is 4.5) ice cream pyjamas out of the house and give them to my girlfriend for her daughter. We were there one night and she took her daughter to get ready for bed. You can guess what happened next…meltdown city!!
My mother in law recently bought my 7 year old a ‘cheerleading outfit,’ except that it’s a ribbed tank with some snarky cheer slogan and shorts that have ‘Cheer’ across the butt. That, coupled with some obnoxious high heels that also came from the MIL… I wish I could burn them.

Thanks for hosting this giveaway! Super, super cute!!
I want to burn her Carter’s pink polyester tulle nightgown with ballet shoes on the front. Horrible fabric. Horrible gift from a friend.
Mickey Mouse university of Kentucky shirt with a stain on it that she will not let me get rid of!!
thin stretchy knit pants. she likes them cause they’re comfy, but you can see the diaper pattern through the material when she bends over.
My kid loves her freaking Dora Tshirt! She has a ton of cute shirts that she barely wears cause she always wants to wear Dora!
My daughter absolutely loves a hand-me-down, faded and scruffy-looking Sesame Street t-shirt. She saw it before I could throw it out, and now this little rag is as well-loved as a security blanket!

Definitely the Crocs!!!
Unfortunately my daughter HATES clothes. Granted she’s only 9 months old. Putting on clothes is like putting a cat in a bathtub while trying to put clothes on said cat. Also unfortunately for me she grows out of clothes as fast as I can buy them so I haven’t hit the stage of hated clothes. So I guess I can’t really win this one.
I love your page and love that I’m not the only mom with a wicked dark sense of humor about parenting 🙂
I also pinned the dress on my pinterest. http://pinterest.com/chyrstal/pins/
Pinned the Rachel Riley dress on Pinterest!!!
My sweet daughter has an obsession with the ugliest pair of green army shorts!
My DAUGHTER wears a Buzz Lightyear costume ALL THE TIME. I live in Phoenix so it’s about 4 degrees cooler than Satan’s asshole so weraring a full BL costume to the grocery store, wings and all, is not idea. It’s cute, but not ideal.
Her Dora pajama top as a real shirt… Ughhhh
Love that I forgot to omit the “”. I am a genius.

My son is only 13 months so no issues yet but my husband hates the 1 piece short outfits because he says they look like dresses but I love them because they are easy!
My two year old loves these terrible pink cowboy boots she received as a gift. They may sound cute, trust me, they are not. I even hide them in hopes that she will forget about them, but I think she has them lojacked or something because she always sniffs them out.
pinned!
My 3 year old has a panda obsession and loves wearing any of her many panda t-shirts. My 22mo old insists on wearing her jelly shoes every day. They’re cute, but at least a size too small.
My daughter loves this hot pink tutu skirt.. she wears it all the time, there’s nothing wrong with this skirt per say, other than she’s 5 and in a size 5/6 and the skirt is a 3T.. haha
*I tweeted & pinned. 🙂
A hot pink spongebob sweatshirt !
Dying over the Marilyn Monroe dress shot. Brilliant.
The article of clothing I want gone? A scarf made out of fleece that my oldest got from pre-k last year. Put it in the trash? It somehow walks its way back. Hide it in the closet way up high? It somehow bungees its way back. My next attempt at a disappearing act will involve a campfire. And s’mores…
Oh-like you both on Facebook!
I wish I could get the rain boots she likes to wear with everything but sometimes you NEED them!
a neon ( NEON ) orange tee shirt. A gift of course will be taking your advice and calling it jammies…. And I do thank you for the brilliant idea!
Rubber “Fireman” boots. He even wears them while he’s sleeping.
My sweet girl is only 3 months old, so I can pretty much dress her in anything I want at the moment. The only thing she has that I don’t like is this night gown with brightly colored cats on it. My husband dresses her in it and thinks it’s cute. I guess I could “take care of it” while he’s at work tomorrow….
Also pinned!
My daughter is obsessed with a pink Star Wars tee shirt. At first it was cute, because it was a “dress like Daddy” thing. But it’s getting old fast.
Ugh! My kiddo has this hideous Dora denim jacket her grandmother gave her. It’s too small and gosh ugly! Maybe this will be the year.
My daughter has a blue princess leotard with skirt that she wears as pjs every night. It’s tacky and something my MIL most likely purchased at a yard sale. At least it’s just pajamas.
I would get rid of my daughter’s red Minnie Mouse tennis shoes. She has nothing red and insists on wearing them EVERY SINGLE DAY, no matter what she is wearing.
I pinned on Pinterest.
I tweeted about the giveaway!! Would love to win, these clothes are so cute!
a pink tulip print bubble dress from target that my daughter will not let go. it was 2 sizes too small this summer and I am looking all over for a replacement in larger sizes but the line has been discontinued a long time past…
I took my kids (2.9yr and 4yrs) to get their pictures taken last week and bribed them with jelly beans to put on the clothes I brought and to take pictures. A moms gotta do what a moms gotta do sometimes. Best pictures ever and they behaved!!!
My baby girl is too young to have a clothing attachment – but I’m sure she will! But I tweeted (@emanolis) and pinned (@emanolis)
My son needs to ditch his Ryan Howard Jersey….ick. Replace it with something METS..
Don’t know if someone’s already sent this, but thought it was fitting-

Long sleeved pj’s in the summer – our 4 year old refuses to wear short sleeved ones.
My son has a hand-me-down shirt that says “My Mom is Hotter than Your Mom”…his stepsisters tend to pick out his clothes for him and they insist on picking this shirt quite often. I consider it a pajama shirt but somehow it got into the rotation. I was mortified the one time I forgot he had it on and we were at the grocery store. It needs to disappear lol.
My son only ever wants to wear “exercise” mesh shorts. I’m over them.
My 3 year old has this gray sweatshirt that has Mickey Mouse icons all over it. I thought it was cute when I bought it but fast forward weeks/ months later and he refuses to take the thing off. The bottom of the sleeves are dingy and stained even after washing. He wears this thing to sleep, out in 80+ degree weather, and basically everywhere we go. I have gone to great lengths to hide it just to wash it and he still finds it. He has plenty of other hoodies but he must wear this one.
My 4 year old has these hideous brown sandals that look like Teva’s. They’re hideous. I bought them because he had XW feet and he needed a pair of sandals but I still regret buying them. I have taken pictures of him wearing said sandals and posted to FB and IG and have had friends and family tell me how hideous the shoes are.
I would toss these things in a heartbeat but the boys love them and thats’s why I can’t do it. I’m hoping they outgrow this attachment soon…
Mazzy and Harlow are adorable! The one article of clothing I’d love for my daughter to get rid of is that amniotic sac she’s been wearing around for the past 10 months, I know that might not really count, but it’s all I’ve got for now.
My grandson has a pair of black shoes that I came to dislike when he had his 4th birthday party this last April. His mom was planning a dinosaur theme birthday party so I ordered the grandson a pair of dinosaur shorts and a dinosaur t-shirt made by two different vendors so there was a lot of collaborating back and forth to make sure the shirt matched the colors in the shorts and I had to order them and make sure everything arrived in time for him to wear to his birthday party. All the details worked out fine and the vendors were so great about working with me and I received the orders in time for the grandson’s party & gave them to my daughter so she’d have them to dress him in the day of the party. When I arrived for the party I was surprised to find the grandson wearing his dino shirt but not the shorts. When I asked about it my daughter told me that the 4 yr old grandson refused to wear the shorts because they “didn’t go” with the black shoes he wanted to wear. I tried to talk him into wearing the shorts that we’d worked so hard to “match” to his shirt but he didn’t want to change. The little stinker! And the black shoes he insisted on wearing look kind of like leather crocs so there is nothing particularly endearing about them. Oh well! He did wear the shorts a few days later, so it’s not like he didn’t “like” them, he just didn’t think they “went” with his black shoes! 😀 😀 😀

My 2 year old twins have some Dora the explorer t-shirts that they LOVE. They are stained and destroyed. They will wear them all year long. Of course they have really cute clothe they refuse to wear
twitted and pinned!
She has a pair of shorts, that she can get off on her own… She loves them, but only so she can pull them off, I hate them. 🙂
My son is 2 1/2 and hasn’t become attached to any of his clothes yet; he doesn’t give them much attention. That may change around Halloween when the Elmo costume comes out!
Pinned it!
I wish I could get rid of a long sleeve flowered dress of my daughters for numerous reasons. One, it is a size 24 month and she is 3 and a half. The only way I will be able to get rid of this dress is when she can’t fit her head through the opening, this time is coming very soon! Second, it can no longer be worn as a dress because she is too tall, so we just call it her long shirt for now. And lastly, it drives me crazy that the sleeves are too short, but i guess we can just change the whole article of clothing description….its no longer a long sleeve flower dress, instead it is a 3/4 length sleeve, long flower shirt???
I pinned that cute little dress!!
And I’m still learning using Twitter but I believe I tweeted it too!!!
Oh there is such a long list of clothing McKenna has that I would love to get rid of, most of it is in a size 2 or 3T and she wears a 5 or 6 but REFUSES to let me give any of it away. I think my current least favorite is a purple tank top with rhinestones around the top that my mom bought for her.
Tweeted too.
My daughter likes Mazzy’s sandals. Where can I find those? Thanks!
Pinned!
Sports shorts. She has so many cute outfits. Why the puma?
My daughter has a couple of pair of ugly sweat pants that I hate!
My husband is a high school football coach and had two team shirts made for my daughter to wear AT GAMES. The season starts next month, and yet these shirts have been in our laundry rotation for 3 months. And the BEST part is that she knows my husband owns the same shirts, so we play the awesomely fun game of “try to match Daddy,” daily. That’s where she decides which shirt she is wearing, then she sees my husband in a totally different shirt, and she loses her shit that they aren’t “twinnies” that day and he must not love her anymore.
My son insists on wearing his 24m disney choo choo sweatpants. He’s now almost 4, so they are sweat capris and look ridiculous
I would love to get rid of these Ninjago shirts that his grandparents bought him. They aren’t the cutest designs (to me) and they are some crazy synthetic material. He LOVES them though…sigh.
I would LOVE to get rid of the Elmo PJs that my son loves to wear every other night. He outgrew them like a year ago and I’m so tired of seeing that red furry face all the time!
Footie PJ’s…they suck and I can’t cut her toenails while she sleeps when she’s wearing them.
The three sizes too big nightgown she demands to wear EVERY NIGHT to bed. It’s my biggest enemy!
