When it comes to family travel, whether you are flying to Grandma’s house or your fancy pants vacation resort, you gotta have a foolproof method to keep your kids occupied for the entire trip. It’s either that or knock them out with drugs.
What happens when your kids aren’t occupied (or drugged)?
Meltdowns, discomfort, boredom, hunger, unnecessary requests to go to the bathroom, “are we there yet?” and “how much loooooooonger?” inquiries, moaning and groaning, infighting between siblings, back of the seat kicking, etc. etc. etc.
It can get BAD. If you’re on a plane, you can’t even pull over to give yourself a break. Not to mention— EVERYONE IS WATCHING.
Well, as the mom of a five-year-old, I am here to tell you that once your kids reach a certain age, all these problems miraculously disappear. They even carry their own luggage.
I know it’s not popular to tell a story about when everything works out JUST FINE, with no tension to hold anyone’s interest or heartfelt pleas to gain sympathy, but we traveled to Utah on Tuesday with Mazzy and it couldn’t have gone any smoother.
Can’t you just pee in your pants or scream “I’m bored!!!!” loud enough for the people on the ground to hear you so I have something to write about?
But no. Mazzy was excited to go on the plane. She was more excited about flying then the vacation itself. She was glued to the window before take-off, clapped when the plane reached the clouds, told me when she had to go to the bathroom, got excited about the free snacks and played quietly on her iPad for the entire trip.
(FYI- we left Harlow at home with Grammy, no matter what @insta2yearold tells you.)
Of course, I can’t let Mazzy take all the credit. I was FULLY PREPARED. Before the trip, I loaded up the iPad with new games and movies, made sure it was fully charged, took along a pair of headphones and packed my myCharge Hub 6000 just in case anybody ran out of battery.
The myCharge Hub is key, by the way, because if you are grounded before the flight even takes off, knowing you have a back-up charger is one less reason to panic. Plus, if you are traveling with multiple devices— like Mazzy’s iPad, my phone, Mike’s iPad, Mike’s phone, etc. you need a substantial back-up source. I’ve actually become quite attached to my Hub and won’t travel without it. I took it to San Francisco a few weeks ago, left it in the car from the airport by accident and did everything possible to get a new one before our Utah trip. I love the Hub because it attaches directly to your device (or an outlet) with no wires necessary. It also actually charges your phone (and then you can remove it) as opposed to acting as another battery source you must leave attached.
So there I was, on the plane, with Mazzy happy and occupied and I realized— I get to do whatever I want to do too! Read books, flip through US Weekly, take a nap, create a business plan, watch the inflight movie, linger over coffee— THE WORLD IS YOUR OYSTER when your kid is belted in and totally entertained with a fully charged device!
AND— there is no guilt or shame in unlimited iPad time when you are in the air. I bet you even have people tell you what a wonderful mother you are once the plane lands.
“I didn’t hear a peep from her— she was so content the whole time! You must be a wonderful parent!”
SOAK THAT PRAISE UP.
When we landed, the iPads were still charged but my phone was in the red. That’s what playing with photo editing apps for 4 hours can do to you. I attached my Hub and was able to use my phone for the :45 minute car ride to the hotel. We even face-timed with Harlow. (Don’t feel bad for Harlow. She is stoked to get one-on-one time with Grammy.) When we got to the hotel, we put our stuff down and immediately went out to dinner. By that time, my phone was fully charged without ever locating an outlet in the hotel room.

This post was sponsored by myCharge, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
It’s very rare that I run out of power but my kids are very little and we haven’t had the chance to travel far, so we usually just have our wall chargers on hand. It would be great to not have to worry during future road trips and travels.
We’re still new at using technology with our daughter, but we’ve been camping several times and use the iPhone’s to let her watch Tinkerbell (her fav!!) and the battery has ran out with obviously no power supply. Mini meltdowns did occur!
It’s all Harlow’s fault. She always asks me to put music on. And Mazzy asks me to take pictures of pinks things all around the city.
2 hours waiting at a dr office sapped the iPhone battery. It was one LONG train ride home with no entertainment (except for gawking at the odd people that ride the NYC subways)
We drive to indiana twice a year to visit hubby’s family. The worst is having 2 tablets, and two phones and one car charger. One kids device always dies faster then obvi there’s a fight over using the one and alternating between charging at least one of the cell phones in case of an emergency and the darn tablets!
Flying back from my best friend’s wedding with my 4 year old Zoey and a very demanding 13 month old Fisher. I’m a single mom and the flight from Maine to Florida with an early check out time, late flight, and one lay over was brutal. Peppa Pig saved the day so I could take care of a super tired little boy withput his big sister getting jealous. The iPad was plugged in every chance I got and finally bit the bullet on the second flight. Let’s just say the last hour was interesting!
My two year old is going through a mad Frozen obsession right now that would put Mazzy and Harlow’s to shame.
The only way to avoid her melting down in any public outing is to play the Frozen soundtrack on repeat.
Elsa is clearly better at controlling my kid and I’m not even ashamed.
That is until my iPhone battery cannot handle six continual hours of Love is an Open Door and we just walked into the grocery store!
What a great giveaway!! We were closing on our new house and at the last minute had to take our toddler. We had the ipad in the car and thought it was charged but got there and set everything up and realized it had not battery life yet
My daughter has the habit of taking away the iPad mid charge and exhaust the batteries completely. And then when we’re ready to leave, right when we get into the subway/car/train, the device is dead. A cranky child at hand In public transport is not fun! I’m getting myself that charger!
My husband, our 14 month old and myself were in Chicago for the lights parade before thanksgiving. My mom rode the train in to meet us and bring our coats and a stroller (it was a last minute decision to go and we were already in the city without those things). My husband’s phone died earlier in the day but mine was fully charged before the parade. Mine died before we were able to find my mom so we had no coats and no stroller for the entire parade, not to mention my mom was supposed to be riding home with us. After the parade, we searched for her, with no luck (obviously, considering the amount of people there) and I ended up asking a stranger to borrow his phone to call my mom. Thankfully, she answered the third time I called and we found her!
We lost battery at the worst possible time, waiting for a doctor appointment, the worst longest wait ever!!! My son has type 1 diabetes and is 3 … So it’s a double whammy on the stress factor so keeping him happy before being poked and prodded is a absolute and this was the one and only time I will bring a half power iPad with us !! lol
On a trip to Florida for my grandmother’s 9th birthday with my 5 year old daughter and husband. I was violently sick…. the iPad died in the Atlanta airport and charger was in the luggage that was checked…. I’m vomiting in the bathroom, my daughter is crying and my husband was pulling out his hair…..
We were traveling for Christmas and got to the airport early just to find out our plane was delayed for 4 hours for a 1hr 1/2 flight. I was running my child around the airport to keep hi busy knowing my phone would not last that long. He got tired and we started to watch a movie. Well half way throught my phone died. He was crying and upset (all the charging stations were used and no one would move) he ended up crying so hard he threw up all over me and himself right as they were calling family birding. By the time we got on there were only middle row seats available. So I said loudly I guess I have to sit my vomiting child in the middle row. Finally a couple moved over so we could have an isle. I have not flown since.
Batteries on both phones and tablets died mid flight to Cabo with 5 yr old and 2 yr old. The rest of the flight was not fun for anyone despite all of the non electronic toys I brought along. I agree with you, 5yrs old is an awesome age for travel. Even when she couldn’t use her tablet, she didn’t complain too much. Her sister on the other hand . . lets just say that trip made me realize we are better off leaving the younger one at home with Grammy for a few more years.
My iPad died mid-distracting my daughter from her pre-k shots. Not having a focus caused a lot of tears from everyone involved.
I was in the middle of no where and needed to use the navigation and my phone died.
While I was in the middle of a gynecologist appointment my 3 yr old’s iPad just died. Nothing you can do from the stirrups- worst check up ever!
I love the idea behind this product! Batteries on devices are always failing when you need them most! We’ve had many a long flight or car ride with our 3 and 6 year old girls when this has happened. Although I do admit I sometimes use that as an excuse too when I want screen time to be over! Ha
My son is usually with me while I run errands, or we park and wait the 30 minutes or so till dad gets off work instead of driving back and forth. Sometimes mom and the radio just arent enough to entertain little man. So, when my iphone isnt fully charged and ready for temple run or transformers games, it makes for a very grumpy kiddo!
We always seem to run out of charge on long car trips, then the kids are fighting over the outlet.
My phone always seems to die when I need it most. The worst is probably when we are on a road trip and I’m using it to entertain my kids.
I was in the hospital post operation (gall bladder) and my husband wanted to get him and the kids something to eat. The 4 yo wanted to go with him but the 2 yo was wrapped up in one of the many iPad games. So I said just take the 4 yo and leave the youngest. Fast forward 5 minutes and the iPad died. Total FML moment. She was not having it and decided to get up and start getting into everything. She managed to unplug my oxygen, knock my heart monitor off.. And a few other things before daddy came back 30 minutes later lol! So yes a portable charger would have been nice!
I definitely could have used time charger last weekend when we took my 2 yr old on his first car trip. What was supposed to be a 3 hour ride turned into a 5, while stuck in the car with my mother in law. Nuff said, right? Those batteries on the iPad and phone died way too quickly for that trip.
Luckily, I have not yet had the horror of an electronic device dying in a trip, but I am TERRIFIED that it will happen when we travel to my brother-in-law’s wedding this summer. With a 4.5 year-old and a nearly 2 year-old, this could be disastrous. What a great lifesaver this could be!
I think the most traumatic time we didn’t have a charger was when I had to take my Dad for tests at the hospital and had my 3 year old in tow. As with everything at hospitals, things took longer than anticipated and my iPhone died while we were still waiting. The three year old held it together pretty well, but it became much more of a challenge to make sure that she wasn’t wandering off, harassing other patients, or – God forbid – TOUCHING anything while trying to make sure my Dad got what he needed and listening to doctors. Could have definitely used the distraction of a fully charged phone that day!
I just had a newborn and desperately needed to distract my 2 year old so I could nurse but my phone ran out about 5 minutes into his pbs app time
My phone has died on numerous occasions when on work trips and just wanting to connect at home! It is BEYOND frustrating and have an impending trip in the next few weeks!
On a long car ride, I was sure the iPad was charged…. Little did I know that my oldest has taken about a zillion selfies in the backseat. When my youngest was having a meltdown, I turned to put on a show and no battery. What!?! It was a good life lesson learned,
Taking a road trip with a 2 and 4 year old. I thought I was so prepared with movies on the iPad for them to watch. About an hour into our 7 hour drive, there’s silence in the backseat followed by crying!!!! I had totally forgotten to actually charge the iPad! Longest.drive.ever.
That one time we went away with two kids under two to my family’s remote New Hampshire cabin in the middle of no where with no reception and forget the iPad charger. It was all fun and games until paw patrol went bye bye.
After playing with our phones throughout our flight on our most recent vacation we arrived with one phone dead and the second at 2%. We were trying to memorize directions to our hotel before the phone died. We barely made it.
My toddler was being whiney at my grandfather’s funeral. I noticed another kid there with an iPad & headphones, so I got my phone & headphones out of my purse and tried to be sly in putting on a tv show for my two-year-old. A few minutes in, the phone died. Chaos ensued & I had to take my son out into the lobby, missing the funeral service. I tried to listen, but I couldn’t hear from outside the chapel. I had to listen to the recording provided by the funeral home later.
ran out of power to the ipad in hour 1 of a 6 hour drive. forgot to charge it the night before.
It was before my little one came (she’s only 8 month old), but lost power on my phone in the middle of a snowstorm when we lost power! We couldn’t check on the weather or anything.
A couple of years ago I was pulled over for my tag light being out… it was 11pm so kind of annoying, but not really a big deal… Until the officer came back and said that my license had been suspended and I wasn’t allowed to drive home. The suspension was a clerical error, but there was nothing I could do about it that late at night. My only option was to call my husband to come and get me. Only my phone was dead… and my car charger was in his car. I had to buy a car charger (at a crazy high price) from the nearby 24 hr pharmacy (thank the Lord for 24 hr Walgreens) and sit in the car charging enough to be able to make the call for him to come get me. Not a fun night. My charge would have saved me time, money, and embarrassment!
I travel frequently with my daughter and son (6 and 3 years old) to see my parents. It’s 3 hours away, but with the crazy MD/DC traffic is can be up to 6 hours of driving. We take tablets and a laptop for movies. However, when we get stuck in traffic, technology dies and they get restless. Even with having everything fully charged, those tricky times are the ones where we get stuck in traffic. It’s good to know there are devices like this to solve the problem!
On a flight to Hawaii. Was a very very long boring flight. I don’t sleep on planes.
The kids use my ipad while I am making dinner to calm the storm and let me cook in peace. I use my Ipad to read assignments for school. In a rush one morning I grabbed it and ran out the door. When I arrived at school I realized my battery was almost dead and I still needed to finish reading an article! It was the fastest I have ever read in my life!
I was 5 pages away from finishing The Hunger Games and my kindle died. I was frantic. Panicked. I never let the battery get that low again.
We frequently travel to my parents house about 3 1/2 hours away. Every time, my son’s tablet runs out of power! And of course, I can’t ever find the charger.
My IPAD died during my brother in laws graduation and I had my two kids ages 5 and 2 plus his son age 2 to quietly entertain during the ceremony!
My phone always dies while I’m sitting around waiting for my kids to come out of whatever activity they have. We live in the middle of nowhere so there’s no point going home just to go right back, and I can’t catch up on blogs while I wait. More first world problems, I think.
three words. RED. CARPET. EVENT. in the middle of taking/sending images for social media department. oops!
I can’t count the number of times my phone has run out of battery! The most recent was Friday when I went with a group of friends to the Texas Antique Week. One of our friends got separated from the group and of course my phone died and nobody else in the group had her number! Of course, it wasn’t as bad as losing a child in a crowd, but it took us over an hour to find her! I need a mycharge desperately!
I run out of battery while I saw a beautiful rainbow from the window’s airplane and I couldn’t register that amazing image. So sad for a photographer without a camera and with a died cellphone 🙁
I honestly don’t have a horrible battery-died story – but I do have that fear. not so much for entertainment as for an emergency – even though I can’t think of where I’d be without a power source with a baby and a toddler… you’ve given me hope for when my oldest turns 5 – I’m imagining an overnight transformation into the perfect kid, does that sound like what happened to Mazzy? 😉
My phone died on the way home from the beach while my 2 year old was playing her Strawberry Shortcake games. Lots of crying/screaming since she was overly tired from playing on the beach all day. Plus I had to listen to my mom complain about all the noise hurting her ears.
My daughter is 4 years old and she loves playing on my iPhone. On more than one occasion she has drained my battery to the point where my phone dies. It would be nice not to have to worry about that 🙂
My tablet died when I needed to use it to do homework. I had been busy with the baby the night before and hadn’t been able to read my textbook for class that day and was going to read it after my husband and I dropped the baby off at daycare. Turns out I forgot to plug the tablet back in after using it to get the baby to sleep. Didn’t get the chapter had and didn’t pass the quiz that my instructor gave us.
Sadly just last weekend while we were visiting dc! We needed it to find our hotel again it was a big mess
Traveling alone with with my 2 year old on a 5 hour road trip turned 8 hours. Every toy had been played with, the snacks were gone, and there was no explaining out of battery or no wifi to my restless munchkin.
Anytime the battery runs out on the iPad it’s an emergency – even if we are home and near the plug, the “low battery” indicator sets off panic. We are traveling to FL soon, 2 kids under 4, 2 ipads and 2 smart phones will hopefully keep everyone calm, a mycharge hub sounds amazing
Took the kids on a 12 hour car trip to Dallas. Got 3 hours down the road and realized the battery on the iPad was dead and the charger that I’d grabbed was the outdated one. Facepalm.
I always run out!! You know right in the middle of swim class when you are trying to get that perfect shot and then your iphone suddenly does that swirly circle meaning it just died and you want to throw it across the pool…. yup I always do that.
Can’t think of whenever the last time that happened st the moment, BUTwe are going on an 11 hour flight to Europe in June with our almost three year old and 19 month old (at the time), and I am getting seriously worried about our batteries!
I occassionally bribe my three-year old with iPad time to get her to use the potty, which she’s been resisting since her baby brother was born. Once the iPad wasn’t charged and there’s no outlet close enough to let her use it while it charges. Cue dirty pull-up in 3, 2, 1…
I kept running out of power on my cell phone while trying to run a white noise app while we were traveling with my (then) 1 1/2 year old and 4 year old. The cord wouldn’t reach from behind the dresser and each time the sounds went off, the kids would wake up.
Needed the battery during a long car ride back from San Diego to Los Angeles. We hit traffic and it took us twice as long. Not anticipated of course so the battery died. I had to entertain my older daughter for two hours sitting cramped in the back seat middle part sandwiched between two large carseats. My back was screaming in pain when it was all done!
My then 2 year old and I were waiting for my husband to get his cortosoine shot at the hospital, when the phone battery died.. It was a nightmare. How do you explain to a 2 year old that they cannot watch anymore of their favorite shows in the waiting room..
I travel frequently for work, and happened to be on a project near my parents house when my first daughter was 0-2yrs old. She flew over 60 times with me while she was still free, and the worst was a dead iPad and no Mickey Mouse Clubhouse or Elmo videos.! Some angel father behind me gave me his phone, after she screamed for at least 20min. It takes a village 🙂
My phone battery is usually great, but when I was in LA and relying on it for driving around discovered that GPS drains it quickly. With an almost dead phone in a town in which I had no idea where I was going, my best bet was buying a new car charger at a passing office supply store. How did I not know about this sooner?
My 23 month old son usually requires “entertainment” when we go grocery shopping. The easiest thing to give him is my phone. He plays happily in kids mode which allows me to get everything done quickly. This is most helpful when waiting @ the deli counter. Usually.
About 2 weeks ago, while we were waiting at the deli counter, Jacks was playing one of his apps on my phone. Suddenly her got very upset and started crying. I looked down to see that my battery had died on my phone. Before I could grab it, he angrily threw the phone as hard & far as he could. It flew between several other people and narrowly missed a shopping cart. It landed and came completely apart. I was so embarrassed! I picked up the pieces and reassembled my phone. When I turned it on I immediately noticed 2 new features my son had added. 2 huge cracks in the screen!! Awesome! Why did the battery have to die??
My kid always runs out of power while camping, which is often.
One day at work my phone’s battery drained. I didn’t know if my in laws took my daughter to the park because I was supposed to pick them up after I was done with work. They didn’t want to push the stroller up several hills. I drove over to the park and didn’t see them there and rushed back to their house. Luckily they were home because my daughter fell asleep half way there so they decided to turn around. If my phone had battery it would have saved me time running around the park looking for them. haha
I live 8 hours from my parents which seems like a long way but when you drive it several times a year by yourself with a two-year old and a five-year old in tow it is a lifetime away. I only have so many charging hookups in my car so no matter what something always runs out of life just when I desperately need it. And that would be one hour away from my parent’s house when I am at my witts end and with no starbucks in site. So this mycharge would be a sanity saver and I wouldn’t have to say the dread words: “Don’t make me pull this car over!”
While geocaching. We got to the park; battery died; car charger quit.
My son is travelling overseas. Calls home. “Hi Mom- this was scary, but cool . . . .” His phone goes dead. No charger available for OVER A DAY. We discover through Facebook they are alive and well, and that the “scary” thing (near robbery by a clown, don’t ask) happened to another travel group.
‘Nuff said.
At the OB/GYN while I was on the table in the middle of my exam and my phone died.
No comparison to most stories but I was home sick while my husband was out of town for an interview. I picked my son up from day care ready to sit him in front of the iPad so I could rest too. A moment of panic set in when it wasn’t charged. We were able to play plugged into the outlet but there was a moment of sheer panic!!
My phone died on an airplane at the end of a very long day (two hour car ride to the airport, five hours delay, three hour flight). I hadn’t charged it prior to leaving (rookie move) and the iPad was already dead from occupying my toddler (and my husband – the Blackhawks were playing!) during our delay. My toddler was so overtired and burnt out by then that he immediately lost it and I spent the last 20 minutes of the flight trying (and failing) to redirect his attention.
Last week I had 7 flights and 5 different hotel reservations over five days. Everything was in my phone including boarding passes, directions, hotel addresses etc – I was following gps on my phone with 30 min left to my hotel only for my battery to die leaving me lost in the middle of Amish country with no memory of my hotel name or knowledge of how to get there!
I ran out of charge while trying to keep my daughter occupied in the waiting room while sick. Not cool.
I was watching my cousin’s daughter (age 2) during a funeral (we were just in another room) when my phone (where she was watching videos to keep her quiet) died- which in the middle of Frozen caused a major meltdown.
It was the worst!
I was recently visiting my sister and the power went out for 7 hours, we went to Starbucks to get recharged! I could have used a my charge for sure!
It was the worst winter in 2014, and our power went out from what felt like 500MPH winds- after the sun went down. We were so not prepared. Scrambling for candles, flashlights, batteries, and our two-year-old needed his virtual pet on our iPod. The iPod was dead. Of all the unprepared-ness, that felt like the WORST thing! We all piled in the car to charge the iPod in the cigarette lighter slot while we drove for some fast food, running the heat on full-blast. Three hours later, the power came back on and we had miraculously survived.
What about the time when I flew from Orlando to salt lake city with three kids behind the most ornery woman on the planet and the DVD player quit. After a week of playing with the same toys they were bored and passive aggressive old lady complained the whole time? My kids were actually really good but I could have handed the DVD player to the grumpy old lady and had a peaceful ride.
My mom and I took my son (7) and my niece (5) to Disney world. We left the day after Christmas and drove what should have been 12 hours but turned out to be 18 hours. You would think that at some point the kids would have went to sleep but oh no. They both had tablets to play on but once the batteries went dead they started fighting with each other. My mom who has 5 kids said that she had never seen two kids fight as much as they did and hiring up we would drive to New Jersey at least once a year.
I lose battery every weekend!! I work as a hospice nurse and my phone will not stay charged for the full 12 hours! I use it for work and for looking at pictures of my sweet babies at home!
Swim meets can be long. Sometimes the kids sleep on the way home and other times they are wired…unfortunately, by the ride home, no device is left with battery. LONG rides home!
To my kids it’s the end of the world when their tablets loose power in the middle of their games.
We were flying to Mexico, and the Kindle was near dead by the time we landed, it didn’t make it through the shuttle to the hotel. My daughter is usually good about this, but it was 1:30 pm and we had been traveling since 4:00 am. She lost it when it died in the middle of my little ponies, and then promptly fell asleep 🙂
While taking a 10 hour car trip and the out yen out let in the car quit working.
My labor with my daughter came very quick, so we took my son to the hospital with us and my sister was supposeD to meet us there to watch him. She decided to go to Walmart first so my son sat alone, in the waiting room with my dead iPad, while I gave birth to his sister. A kind nun sat with him, asking him all sorts of questions about why there was such an age span between him and his sister, and if my husband was his father. If I had a charger, he could’ve at least sat there with headphones on watching a cartoon. 🙂
Last weekend, I took my granddaughter to her doctor appointment. The doctor were running behing so I let her play on my phone. It weren’t long my phone were dead. So later after we left I had some shopping to do. So we finally got home, my daughter were at my home waiting on me. She has been calling and calling but my phone were dead. Because my phone battery were dead I didn’t got to see my cousin when she stop by to visit. But the were just stopping by on her way to her husband mom . Last time I saw her were four years ago.
My son had to go to the ER for what turned out to be a minor issue. Ran out of battery power on his tablet so he proceeded to let EVERYONE in the hospital know that he was there and he was NOT happy! I wanted to smuggle him out a back door I was so embarrassed! !
On a long 3 day road trip. She was watching her tablet and I had a really hard time trying to keep it charged so I could tend to the other baby! We’re going again this summer (Cali to Minnesota) so we need all the help we can get!
Out in the middle of the ocean in Juneau, Alaska, on our boat, I allowed my two year old to play games on my phone until he fell asleep. Got my phone back just in time to take pictures of the pod of humpback whales about 50 feet from our boat, when I realized it was dead.
My phone died when I was being interviewed over the phone. I didn’t notice that the battery was low. Needless to say, I didn’t get the job. 🙁
Running out of power on my phone, which was the “babysitter” for my child who was supposed to be at a real babysitter who had canceled at the last minute while I got my yearly gyno exam done. That was awesome…
Our talent always does the moment the younger one falls asleep, causing the older one to whine, giving us a 50/50 shot of the little one staying asleep. We drive a lot. At least one weekend a month includes a 6-10 hour weekend road trip to visit various relatives. This would be amazing!!
Traveling to visit the grandparents at the beach and the kindle fire went dead half way there 🙁
I’m not the sleeping type when it comes to long travels. I tend to get a little bit paranoid when I fall asleep while on travels so I really rely on my phone to get me through the travel though the phone’s battery kinda suck; I definitely need a good hub for my phone and for my travels.
I was on the phone with my 13 year old daughter who was home sick one day. I had to take my now 4 month old to the doctor. I forgot my charging cord at home, and don’t have one that lives in my car. I heard on the radio about a shooting at M-PHS, and the location of the shooter was unknown. I called my daughter and had her on speakerphone while I was getting home as soon as I could. We live 2 miles from the school, and I was freaked out. I was about 6 miles from home and my phone died. Let me tell you, that was the LONGEST and MOST STRESSFUL 6 miles of my life!!!!!!
I always take the iPad with me for my 4 yr old son when we go to his older brother’s football practices. It’s a tough time for him and they are 2 hrs long. I grabbed the iPad off the charger and handed him the iPad when we got to the practice. Little did I know, the charger must not have been connected right and it never charged. He sees the red battery symbol and it shuts down. Meltdown and the longest two hr practice ever! I never want that again!!!!
last time the power ran out we were on a flight from NC to houston. It wasn’t pretty.

On a cross country flight…at 38,000 feet…with a 2 year old.
we are planning on driving from FL to PA this summer with a few spots in between so having a fully charged iPad for cartoons for a peanut is key! She’s not a happy camper when the lights go out on her beloved Elmo.
