I debated writing this post, because this is a new development that I suspect will only get better. But just in case this new phase of sisterhood ends abruptly tomorrow, I don't want to forget it.
Mazzy has started narrating Harlow's inner thoughts.
The premise is this:
Harlow is a baby, therefore she has no idea what is going on.
It works like this:
Harlow, Mazzy and I all get into an elevator. There are three other people inside. Mazzy says, "Harlow's like… who are all these people? I've never seen them before!"
Then everyone laughs. Even the other people in the elevator who can't know what the hell Mazzy is talking about. They don't know Harlow's name. They might think Mazzy is speaking in the third person. Regardless, they laugh. Which makes Mazzy do it again and again and again.
So far, it has not gotten old.
It started like this:
I was talking to Harlow as I was getting ready in the morning. Just narrating what I was putting on and why, like you are supposed to do with babies so they are exposed to speech and language. It's something I did a lot with Mazzy when she was a baby and I feel like I haven't done enough with Harlow. Hence, the whole not-talking-yet thing.
Anyway, as Harlow stood in my closet (she loves it in there), I was blabbering on and on about my choice of shoes and whether I should wear pants or a dress when suddenly Mazzy interrupted.
"Harlow's like… WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT, MOM??? I don't understand what you are saying!"
She had a point.
"Harlow's helping me decide whether I should wear pants or a dress."
Mazzy wasn't buying it.
"Harlow's like… WHAT ARE PANTS, MOM???"
I wish I could make you hear Mazzy's intonation correctly. It's like sarcasm X 5.
It snowed the other day and Mazzy and Harlow were watching in front of the window.
"Harlow's like… what is all this white stuff? Where did it come from???"
We went to the grocery store.
"Harlow's like… where are we? Why is there food everywhere???"
We got into the car.
"Harlow's like… why am I buckled into this seat? Where are we going???"
I'm not sure how this is going to play out, but I suspect, as with most things, Mazzy will find a way to work it to her advantage. For instance, let's imagine, sometime in the future, I give them both a cookie.
Then Mazzy could say:
"Harlow's like… I don't need a cookie. You should give both cookies to Mazzy!"
Or maybe I will find a way to work it to my advantage. For instance, let's say Mazzy is throwing a fit about something ridiculous.
Then I could say:
"Harlow's like… what is Mazzy so worked up about? It's just a television. She can watch it tomorrow!"
It will be like our own little passive aggressive dance.
MAZZY: "Harlow's like… why can't Mazzy just go to bed later? What's the big deal?"
ME: "Harlow's like… why can't Mazzy just listen to Mommy? I'm sure she has really good reasons for everything she does!"
Or perhaps the best scenario of all is if Mazzy and I get into a huge battle of "Harlow's like…" and then Harlow suddently chimes in with her first sentence ever.
"Harlow's like… stop putting words in my mouth!"
That will be the dawn of a whole new era of sisterhood.
Should get interesting.

I want to update my craft room for mores day! NEED. MORE. STORAGE!! IKEA here I come
I would like to sleep, and not feel guilty about missing time with my daughter while I was sleeping.
!
For Mother’s Day this year, I’d love a day at the beach with my family, under an umbrella, with a lot of sunscreen, and refreshments.
What I really want for Mother’s Day is to spend the day with my son and husband and have my husband cook me an awesome brunch. Unfortunately my husband has to cook for several hundred other moms at a local Mother’s Day event. We need the money so I understand, but it’s a little bit of a bummer since it’s my first Mother’s Day.
Ps. I wear a size 9 😉
my husband and son to plan something special for me. Whatever it is.
To sleep in and not have to do any dishes!
I wish I could think of something specific but honestly any gesture of love and genuine gratitude would be wonderful.
I would love to sleep in and Starbucks delivery.
What I really want for mothers day is a quiet day where no one is asking me to make them something to eat, everyone is on their best behavior and my toddler cooperates at bedtime. Wishful thinking right? It won’t happen and I know it but I love my husband and 2 boys anyway and I’m just happy that I get to celebrate mothers day. It really is an honor to be called mom.
As lame as this may seem, I’d like one day with no meltdowns, a clear word or two from my apraxic kiddo and for the youngest to make it all day without falling! That, for me, would be the mommy trifecta!
Oh… And maybe some whirled peas? Or a perfect
Bagel?
For Mother’s Day, I really just want a day of embracing my little family and enjoying one another and I want to tell my own mother how much I appreciate her. No outside drama and oh, and for my husband to agree to trying to conceive again. That would be a pretty great day!
I want a mini photoshoot WITH each of my kiddos. Candid photos of the fun we have together. It might just happen!
I’m going to shoot for the stars and hope for brunch/picnic with my kid and then the rest of the day to myself – movie, massage and a meal with my girlfriends 🙂
I’d love to take a nap all by myself for at least an hour. One month postpartum mommy here!
A clean house. A massge. And hugs and kisses from my little girl ❤
What I really want for Mother’s Day is a gas card or go to the beach but only one of those is gonna happen. 🙂
I have a teething 6 month old and an active 3 year old. My husband works 6 days a week and I exclusively pump for our baby. All I want for Mother’s Day is a day alone to SLEEP!!
For Mother’s Day, I’d be happy with an extra hour of sleep!
A perfect Mother’s Day would be to have my immediate and extended family -including my husband’s family – together for a nice relaxing time!
What I really want for Mothers Day….I would like to have an sell expense paid day for me and my husband…mostly me…but I would like him to attend some events of the day. Spa, massage, haircut and color, mani and pedi, new outfit, lunch, flowers and cheesecake and then home to a clean house and gather the family and go out to dinner with the whole family. A girl can dream right?
For Mother’s Day I would absolutely love a nap! To sleep in past 8:30, watch a movie I get to choose that we haven’t watched every day for the past week, and then for my kids to eat dinner without argument! That would be the best ever Mother’s Day present ?
I love the pics of the girls!! So cute!
For Mother’s Day I am just hoping to spend some quality time with my family… we have been busy and crazy lately that a low key day is very much needed. And maybe a handmade card from my 4 yr old – those are the best!! 🙂
I would like to sleep in, get my nails done, and maybe see a movie ALL BY MYSELF. That’s not likely to happen, so I’ll settle for the swag bag ?.
What I really want for Mother’s Day…hmm that’s a tough one. I think It would have to be for my husband to take care of all the dirty work. Making meals, cleaning, changing poopy diapers..ahhhh sounds like heaven, doesn’t it ??? Lol
There isn’t anything I want for Mother’s Day. I don’t want distractions, negitivity, a busy schedule or anything else that would keep me from enjoying being a mother.
It’s simple. For Mother’s Day, I want my mom back. Sadly not possible, so I’ll settle for a nap and everyone leaving me alone.
I want a piece of jewelry with my girls’ names and date of birth on it.
I’d also love a day of lazy cuddling with my girls. Impossible since almost 3 year olds and crawling 8 month olds will never sit still and cuddle all day long.
I Really just want to spend the day with my4 Children And Husband. It would be nice To have a day to myself,But let’s be honest that’s not gonna happen anytime soon. SO, I’ll Just enjoy a day with them. Maybe they will cook and clean so I don’t have to.
This Mother’s Day I would love a great big bear squeeze from my 3 year old and 8 month old. I had bilateral mastectomies a week ago though so it’s going to be butterfly kisses and drawings, but I’m saving that giant hug for when I’m all healed up!!
For my 4th Mother’s Day, I would like my son to make/color me a Mother’s Day Card. Since I am a single parent, I have never received a card from my son and I am hoping since he is now 3.5 years old, that maybe this year will be the year that he can make me a card that I can keep forever! 🙂
What I would really like for Mother’s Day is to spend the day with my mom and sister (who both live 5 hours away from me). I will most likely spend the day just like any other normal day because that’s how it goes here.
P.S I have never seen this post and it’s the cutest thing ever!!
I would like for my 13-month old to sleep through the night! And for me to also sleep through the night and not wake up wondering why he isn’t waking up 😉
What I REALLY want for Mother’s Day is a day with my better half, uninterrupted where dinner doesn’t include a highchair/sippy cups thrown/child screaming
An uninterrupted night of sleep!
This year for Mother’s day I’d really like to win your swag box 🙂 but if that isn’t possible- I’d like a few flowers and some homemade breakfast. An added bonus would be some child free time to get some plants into the garden. Happy Mother’s Day to all the mommies out there!
All I want for Mother’s Day is a quiet moment. A moment to reflect on my journey to become a mother, a moment to take joy in being a mother, a moment to be thankful for all my children have given me. And then, let the noise and chaos resume.
To take a nap! I’m currently expecting my second and have a 22 month old. Love my babies, but mommy is tired.
What I really want for Mother’s Day I have already gotten! I get to be a mommy. It’s all i have ever wanted to be since I was a little girl and it’s such a blessing!
P.S. Harlow and my daughter Madi have the same birthday. My daughter loves watching the videos of your girls!
at the risk of being completely unoriginal—SLEEP! 😉
For mother’s day, I would love uninterrupted sleep, not having to plan anything, and spending time with my husband, daughter, and newly arrived newborn.
For Mothers Day I would love a day to myself while my fairy godmother came and did a deep cleaning to the entire house!
For Mother’s Day, I’d love to get my house deep cleaned. For someone else to dust the ceiling fans and polish the baseboards, etc. would be fantastic! Oh-and this killer swag bag ?
A day shopping with no kid
I really want a day to scrapbook with my friends! We will eat mexican and junk food and no one will poop on their pants – sigh.
I really want to be able to sleep in. Like actually sleep in without being able to hear my kids and husband in the living room. But, I’m nursing still, so will have to get up with the baby anyway… Maybe next year ?
For Mother’s Day all I really want is to be able to relax and have a glass of wine. If I feel super crazy maybe I would go to the movie theatre. I have a very vivacious 14 month old, and so most of my days are filled with playing with her and rescuing her from her own adventures gone arye.
For Mothers Day I would love a whole day of positivity and smiling kids. The house can be a mess, laundry wrinkling in the hamper. If for the whole day no arguing or talking back or complaining. Heaven.
HI! I love your page and your instagrams! Your girls are adorable and you are an amazing mom! I work every Sunday and what I would love most on Mother’s Day would be for my family to surprise me at work, maybe with flowers and treats but really just them coming up to my work would be awesome! Hope you have a great Mother’s Day!
I would love for my first Mother’s Day to be filled with baby snuggles, LONG midday naps, a delicious dinner (not made by me), and red red wine??
I’m seven months pregnant and I have a 2 year old, and what I’d really like is for the swelling in my legs,?ankles, and feet to go away!!
Look at those babies!!
What I really want for Mother’s Day is to sleep in and Starbucks delivery ☺️.
All I want is a break from this horrible third trimester heartburn. Love Baby#3 but could do without the side effect pregnancy symptoms.
I want my 4 month old and two year old to sleep in!
I would love to sleep in! It will also be our first Mother’s Day without my grandmother. I really want my whole family to get together and laugh and dance and celebrate the amazing mother/grandmother she was instead of being too sad to get together.
This is my first Mother’s Day. Honestly, I’d just like time at home with her. We’ve been busy with friends or family in town, errands, work, just a bit of a grind. A day at home in pajamas (for the spit up, obvi) with her and my husband sounds amazing.
Mother’s Day Wish… A nice massage and spa day.
All I want is a soak in bubble bath in a jetted tub, fine chocolate, and a long nap. All of which is preceded by an epic round of golf. Is that too much to ask for?
An uninterrupted night of sleep! We’ve just moved and the juggle of two toddlers and one on the way. I’m looking forward to spending the day outside with my family!
I would like a long hot bath. One where I am able to wash my hair and shave my legs with the baby crying and the husband calling for me to take the baby!
Breakfast in bed!
I want my husband to shop, plan and cook all the meals for the week. Not that I think that is all I do, but I feel like my role as grocery shopper, meal planner and cook/baker is really not even noticed!
What do I want for Mother’s Day? … A yummy cookout on the deck… Lots of snuggles and new memories 🙂
For Mother’s Day I would like torso neons else to clean my house!
for mother’s day i just want to be left alone so i can sleep. haha.
For Mother’s Day I really want a massage and a nap!
Not to have to do any dishes!!
For mothers day, I want my house sold. Pleeeeeeaae!
I love seeing your girls as they grow up (in the city)! I always dreamed of being a city native! So neat! Your girls are beautiful!
What I really want for Mother’s Day would be a spa day. Massage, facial, mani, pedi, the works! My dream gift ?.
Thanks for doing what you do! ??
What do you really want for Mother’s Day?
Time for a child inappropriate netflix binge! 🙂
What I really want is a salon haircut. Like the kind where I sip champagne while I get a wash, haircut, and blowout that costs two weeks of groceries haircut.
But the paper flower my oldest made in class will do just fine.
What I would love would be easy bedtime. I’m not asking for too much there
For Mother’s Day I want my husband to be the main parent the whole day, from wake-up to bedtime. He is a fully hands-on dad and we’re a great team, but it’d be nice for one day to not be the parent my preschooler and toddler look to FOR EVERYTHING.
Sleep. Maybe this will be the year! (Mom of 3.)
What I would love for mother’s day is an extended period of time to myself so I can recharge a little bit.
What I really want for Mother’s Day is a professional massage, all meals prepared for me, a professional cleaning service to clean my house and for my husband to acknowledge that it’s Mother’s Day. I would love this for just one day. That’s not asking for too much, right?
If it makes you feel better, my very first Mother’s Day, my husband didn’t do a single thing. Nothing. Nada. So every year I give him a very friendly reminder of the one he had forgot.
a day of pamper! Eat a great meal, have a message and lay on the beach with a drink with an umbrella. I live in Hawaii so the beach idea is so within reach!
Love this post btw!
For Mother’s Day I would love an uninterrupted day with my family without having to worry about cooking a meal, cleaning up a mess or a dirty kid and just enjoying a beautiful day with my littles.
And a massage, definitely a massage 🙂
I just want warm nice weather for Mother’s Day. It’s been so cold here 🙁
I think I’d like some workout stuff for mother’s day
What I really want for Mother’s Day…the cruise my husband is sending me on with my best friend to celebrate her 40th birthday. ?
Since we’re a new family of 4 (March), I would love for hubby to plan a day just for the 4 of us. No hustle and bustle. No visiting or having visitors. Just a nice, relaxing day maybe walking near the water, eating something yummy, and getting some ice cream :). A day that I don’t have to think about planning or figuring out anything.
Happy Mother’s Day!
I would like for my husband to take our 8 week old daughter for the night so this mommy doesn’t have to get up in the night. Then, I would just like to spend the day with my 2 girls. Also, I have to go back to work after this wonderful 8 week “vacation”. So, just relaxing is fine by me. No fussing needed.
For Mother’s day I want beautiful weather and a relaxed day outdoors with my family. *also, this post made me giggle because now that Harlow has been talking up a storm it’s crazy to imagine a time before her chipmunk voice had been discovered!
What I would really want for Mother’s Day is a spa day.!!
OMG these photos. ? Mother’s Day- what I really want.. I’ll be running my first half marathon at 8am, and most of what I want for that day is around my goals for the race (you know, like finishing),
Including secretly hoping someone would make a “go mommy” shirt for my son to wear (sister did that). I also want my husband, who does most of the cooking anyways, to make whatever I feel like eating afterwards. And for my guys to make me a craft. I do all the crafts with my little guy so a surprise would be awesome.
What I would really love for Mother’s Day is honestly sometime by myself. Just like an hour or so where I’m not hearing yelling and fighting, or the constant questions 2 toddlers ask all day long. Time where I don’t have to think about my house or anything. Just some time to refresh.
For this Mother’s day I would love to sleep in!
For Mother’s Day, all I really want is to sleep in, get a nice, long, foot rub, and maybe some new yoga pants. I’m a walking cliché.
What I really want for Mother’s Day is something picked out by my husband and daughter without me having to send him a link on Amazon 2 days before. I just want something heartfelt that they think I’ll like, not something I picked out. They know what I like.
I would hugs and cuddles. But also lots of sleep and time to take a long shower!!
Hey Ilana!
I’m not a mother, so I can’t answer your question honestly. What I can do, however, is tell you what is like to do for my own mother.
I’m graduating from university the day before Mother’s Day, so it will be quite hectic and all about me.
Therefore, I would like to let her sleep in on Mother’s Day. I want to give her a day to herself, to go to the gym, to relax and watch Netflix, to eat chocolate in her pajamas, all before she gets called into work again (she’s a correctional officer at the jail).
And tulips. They’re her favourite.
Kirsten
For Mother’s Day I’d like to get pedicures with my mother and sister, and spend the day with my boys visiting some of our favorite grandmas and great grandmas!
Brunch. I just want eggs and bacon and syrup with a side of pasta and more eggs. And of course I would love to have my kids there laughing, touching me with sticky hands and actually eating. Perfect.
Your girls are adorable! It’s fun to look back at these pictures and see how much they’ve grown up!
For Mother’s Day, I would like to be able to sit outside and read for a few hours. I haven’t been able to do that for a long time.
What I’d really like for Mother’s Day is a little time to myself to recharge and go for a run. I’m trying to make that happen- I signed up for a 5k on Mother’s Day that I’m asking my husband to have the kids “surprise” me with the night before. No shame in that.
For mothers day I get to find out my little babes gender! So I wish for a clear ultrasound and lots of good healthy news!
I would love for my 14 month old to FINALLY sleep through the night for Mother’s Day. 🙂
To NOT have to repeat myself, not even once; though that would still be better than my average of saying everything 5 million times. ?
