Last week Mazzy had two injuries. One was a small black and blue mark on her cheek and the other was a little scrape on her chin. Both had one thing in common- they happened on Daddy's watch. Neither were anything major and we both believe that it's healthy for Mazzy to fall every once in a while. But it's still fun to taunt my husband about his lack of baby skills.

Which is why, it gave me great pleasure to discover this animated short called "Sketchy Ice Creams" from Birdboxstudio. A truly brilliant little peak into what can happen when mommy leaves daddy on baby duty…

Now, in the interest of playing fair, yesterday afternoon I was playing with Mazzy on our bed. I had constructed a pillow barrier around us for extra safety. (Yes, I know— a pillow barrier is the protection equivalent of a fence made out of paper or a bodyguard made out of Woody Allen). I guess I closed my eyes for a second and when I opened them, much to my confusion, there was no baby in sight. I bolted up in a half-dazed panic and scanned the room. There she was, on the other side of the pillow barrier, with her little legs still on the edge of the bed as the other half of her body bridged over to the nightstand where she was about to go into full on baby attack mode on Daddy's Blackberry. Lucky for us all, I grabbed her before she ever knew she was in any danger. You might say I saved both her AND the Blackberry. But the larger take-away is— I'm kind of crap in the baby skills department too.
