Last week, I posted about Mazzy's life companion— a purple rag named "Boo". Then I asked everyone to post your kids' objects of affection on my facebook page, along with its name, the name of its owner, years in use and a brief description.
The result was an outpouring of love. Tattered and well-worn love, but isn't that the best kind?
Below are 15 of my favorite WOOBIES FOR LIFE.
There were so many others I didn't get to post that I think I might make this a regular thing.
If you'd like to post your child's woobie, please go to the Mommy Shorts facebook page. Or tag #woobieforlife and @mommyshorts on instagram.
Also, if you or your husband have a woobie who still has a permanent place in your home, I want to see those too. I know Jessica isn't the only one.
LOVE these! I’ll have to send a photo of my 18 month old’s blankie, my 27 year old Pooh Bear and my partner’s 34 year old Coco the dog.
I’m so happy Jessica started off the adults showing off their woobies. You’re going to die when you see the baby blanket I still sleep with…
Jessica- I had a “little pillow” too. My mom had to make it for me when I was a baby to keep my older sister (3 years old when I was born) from throwing full size pillows in the crib with me because “She needs a pillow.” I slept with mine every night until I was almost 8 when it was lost in the hotel we were staying in when we moved from New York to Tennessee. Sad day.
Haha on the monkey eyes that need to be sewn on bc they are chewed off! Such a sweet post. Reminds me of my sons Teddy. I have a childhood blankie at moms house. Plan to give it to my daughter.
I had a Birth Certificate Pillow (yeah, I don’t know either) that I received on the day I was born. I slept with Pilly until my two-year-old son demanded it and refused to sleep without it. I was 23. He used it for a couple of months, and then it disappeared. I believe my husband to be the prime suspect.
The rat is my favorite!
Also, you have to post the Elmo costume one, that thing is nuts.
I know. I forgot about all the photos in the actual comment thread and just looked on the side for submitted photos like I normally do. I realized late last night and thought- I’ll just make it a series!
Oh how I love these…the boys don’t have woobies, I mean they have blankets they love etc, but not one that has to come everywhere with us (That was the nuks that we got rid of two summers ago)
Jacob’s woobie is his Harry Wand, that he sleeps with, would take in the shower if I let him and will say things like “I don’t feel right, WAIT where is my wand???” 😉
Thank you so much for using Hoo Hoo in your pics! My son saw it and started jumping all down. Very excited that Hoo Hoo made it to the internet! 😀
My Dadis 60 and still has a piece of his blanker that sleeps by when he is sick.
As soon as I get home, I’ll take and send you a photo of my and my husband’s woobiesforlife. Oddly, we each still have ours, but our nearly-four-year-old son has yet to pick a favorite.
Those are some well loved woobies! Ha! And yes, I still have mine too. It’s in a box somewhere.
My “blue dog” (Yeah,I was a creative namer back then) lives in my closet now. He’s 37 years old. I got him when I was 5 and he was the very first thing I ever bought with my own money. I know I had to sew him at least once and at least one of his eyes is glued on with superglue.
My daughter is continuing the wooby tradition with “Bankie” (A pink blanket given as a gift to her as a newborn) and “Bunny” who was received as a gift when she was about 3 (she’s 8 now) While they don’t get as much love as they used to, they MUST be available for stressful times and trips out of town!
When I was 28, I left my Baby Duck at home when I went to West Africa for the summer to work. It was the first time I’d EVER left him anywhere, but I felt like maybe it was time to be a big girl. During that trip, my apartment caught on fire and burned away at least half of my things, including Baby Duck. 🙁 Still not over it!
(But I loved this post!)
Gosh I LOVE this brings back memories of my Blankie…It was 2ft by 4ft padded balanket with puppies wearing pink bows..I slept with it from the time I was a infant until I was 14 and we moved 3000 miles and it got “lost”. Only had a 2 inch by 2ft section left but, I missed it and it took me forever to relearn to sleep without it.I’m 44 and wish I still had it to share memories with my son one day. He is 21 months and is just now getting into cuddling with a blanket or stuffed toy. I can’t wait for him to pick a Woobie!
Mine is (was) Wilbur, my stuffed pig that I had for 25 years. Was, because when my husband and I moved across country we stayed in a hotel before we could get into our apartment. The night before we moved in, our car was broken into and our suitcases were stolen. Wilbur was in the suitcase. And all of this happened on our first wedding anniversary. I was so sad. I can’t remember the number of times “do you have Wilbur?!” was uttered before we left some place. I cried because we just moved across the country, because our car had been broken into and our clothes stolen, but if I’m honest, most of those tears were for Wilbur.
I can’t post a picture because she lives half a country away now, but my 28 year old still has a piece of her “sheepy” ( infant sheepskin that she slept on a colicky baby). She keeps it in her pillowcase and rubs it when she goes to sleep at night. It makes me happy she still finds it comforting. And proof that these things are awesome!!!
And…. I still have “pinky” my pink stuffed poodle. At age 54. Must be inherited. I don’t sleep with pinky, though, my husband thinks he’s creepy
Aww, yay, Little Pillow has a slice of fame on the internet! I look forward to seeing all the wise older woobies on display 🙂
I can’t believe I was the only one! I’m glad to have Little Pillow immortalized. It’s a little too fragile for daily use (hence the retirement) but every once in awhile if I’m really down, I’ll put it back on the bed. 🙂
Aw, little pillows unite! My kid sister lost her blankies in a hotel at about the same age. They realized the day they checked out and called from the car and housekeeping swore they couldn’t find them. I felt so sad for her. I feel very lucky that LP is still with me.
I left my favorite stuffed bear “Aigee Bear” in a hotel when I was at a volleyball tournament in 8th grade! Devistating! Funny enough, he was a gift to my older sister but I ended up with him. He also had a Velcro butt that was supposed to hold a battery or tape or something but I put my moms old license in there!
Along with my stuffed bear, I had a blankie that I had to stop sleeping with around 6 years old. It was torn to shreds because it was constantly going through the washing machine since I peed my bed All. The. Time. My poor mom. I wonder if she still has the scraps somewhere…
My daughter has a Cat in the Hat and a blanket (no cutesy names for them; not sure why) and I still have my blanket. And I think my stuffed dog Sammy is probably still around somewhere too. 🙂
