As the weather warms up, pools open and a day at the beach starts to become a real possibility, thoughts of sunscreen application, water splashing, and lugging 50 lbs. of gear across hot sand while also carrying a sweaty toddler can make most parents want to crawl under a beach towel to hide until November.
But many moms deal with an even bigger summertime nemesis— THEIR OWN SWIMSUIT.
Kristin Hensley and Jen Smedley, the hilarious duo behind #imomsohard, have perfectly captured the swimsuit season struggle in their latest video. If the fourteen million views it’s gotten so far are any indication, women can relate.
“I don’t care until ten minutes before I have to put it on,” Smedley says, “and then all of a sudden I’m like, ‘Oh man, I shoulda done crunches or something.'”
For most of us, blowing up floaty toys won’t be quite the ab workout we’ll need to feel completely confident in our swimwear, but the problem doesn’t end there. What’s with the odd new styles featuring cutouts that look like you’re “pressing something against a tennis racquet” or the sheer impracticality of disciplining your children while wearing clothes you can’t even bend over in without a butt cheek escaping?
After Kristin and Jen bravely try on some of the trendy swimsuits currently in stores, they show us what they actually wear to the beach.
“When I’m at the beach, I’m there to lifeguard, build sandcastles, supply treats, re-stand the umbrella every dang time it blows over, spray sunscreen, drink a beer, look for seashells, warm-up wet kiddos, force people to eat sandwiches and drink juice, blow up water-wings, and keep my son from publicly urinating,” they explain in the video’s caption.
“Basically, I’ve got a really fun job to do and I don’t have time to let a piece of lycra throw me off my game.”
