Photo Contest: Beach Prize Package with Blue lizard sunscreen
Summer is coming which means my favorite question is up for debate once again: Is the beach worth it? A few years ago, I wrote about Mazzy’s first time at the beach which was 50% a good time and the other 50% split between sunscreen application, sandy diaper changing and lugging 250 lbs of gear across the hot sand.
I’ve never been a huge fan of the beach, but seeing my kids enjoy it has turned me in its favor over the years. For instance, here’s a video of Mazzy stepping in the ocean for the first time:
How could I not love that???
After that seemingly positive experience, Mazzy spent a few years afraid of the water. She still loved to go to the beach, she just didn’t want to put her feet in the ocean. Until last year, when suddenly even the highest waves couldn’t stop her.
Harlow loves the beach, but has yet to venture near the water, despite how many times we’ve tried. Harlow likes to stick to the sand, which is fine, because the sand keeps her occupied for hours and safely in one place.
I’m hoping maybe this summer is the summer Harlow will finally take her magical first step in the ocean. Although, I must admit, avoiding the water/sand combo makes Harlow much easier to pack up and put in the car at the end of the day.
Whether your kid is a sand or water lover (or both), every kid has to be properly protected from the sun. Recently, I was introduced to a sunscreen originally created in Australia called Blue Lizard. Australia has the strictest sunscreen regulations in the world, which is probably one of the reasons Blue Lizard is recommended by dermatologists and ranked as one of the top sunscreens by the Environmental Working Group.
Blue Lizard has five varieties (Baby, Sensitive, Face, Sport & Regular), all of which have broad spectrum UVA/UVB coverage (SPF 30+) and mineral-based formulas containing Zinc Oxide. Baby and Sensitive are both paraben-free, chemical-free and fragrance-free. Face is oil-free. Sport and Regular are extremely water resistant and will stay on for 240 minutes, even in water.
Most interestingly, Blue Lizard’s patented PBA-free Smart Bottle™ changes color from white to blue (or pink for Baby formula) when it is exposed to harmful UV rays, effectively reminding you to put on sunscreen.
Today, I’m giving away two waterproof Scout beach bags full of Blue Lizard products and a bunch of stuff all kids love to use on the beach like beach balls, shovels and Babiator sunglasses.
1) Multicolor Beach Ball
2) Babiators Submariners Swim Goggles
3) Babiators Sunglasses
4) Clicker Crab Toss & Grip
5) Blue Lizard Sun Screen
6) Apple Park Towel
7) Beach Bag
8) Shark Toss & Catch
9) Octopus Folding Chair
10) Beach Tool Playset
11) Donut Pool Float
Make sure you pack some waterproof diapers, a baby cover-up and an big umbrella and you are good to go! Some people have luck with baby beach tents. Mine refused to stay inside.

…and whatever else you can throw at me.
I’ll post my favorite pics plus the two winners on June 5th. Good luck!

Baby powder is an absolute must at the beach! You just sprinkle it on to make sand removal much easier (and less painful) with a big bonus of a sweet smelling bub thereafter.
Absolutely! And wearing socks on the hot sand is so much easier than flipping and flopping sand everywhere while carrying a cooler, beach toys, and a toddler.
