Giveaway: Revlon Prize Pack
Lately, I’ve been reading every article I find on marriage. Mostly to dispel any preconceived notions about what I think marriage is supposed to feel like verses what it actually is. My husband and I have a habit of emailing these articles to each other when we find them, mainly to make ourselves feel better about our own relationship. Why it’s okay to fight about stupid things, how differences in disciplining children can cause a rift, why your spouse annoys the crap out of you sometimes, etc. etc.
Mike and I are not a perfect couple. We are opposites who are complimentary but not always totally in sync. One thing we do understand though is the importance of time off by ourselves, away from the kids and just focusing on each other.
Often when we start to get distant or especially nit-picky, we make a date. It doesn’t have to be anything particularly elaborate, but we dress up (at least a little) and remind ourselves why we got together in the first place. Which, let’s be honest, is as much about chemistry as picking someone because they like to cook, have a stable job and a way with kids.
I remember the first time I saw Mike, and just as importantly, the first time he saw me. There was a look he gave me that was one of both attraction and recognition. It was a look that said, it wouldn’t be so terrible to keep looking at you for a very long time.
I love that look. I don’t see it as often as I used to, but when I do, it’s usually when we are headed out on one of our dates. After we have put on our coats, said goodbye to the kids, closed the front door behind us and are heading down the elevator just the two of us. When things are going well and one of us isn’t consumed with something happening on our phone, that’s the moment we connect. That moment in the elevator is when Mike might comment about something he wouldn’t notice at any other time— a haircut, a new outfit or a particularly bold shade of lipstick.
Last week, Revlon sent me their new Ultra HD lipstick in Gladiolus to wear for a date night out with Mike. This is a seriously RED lipstick. I must admit, I felt a little self-conscious when I looked in the mirror. I wanted to look amped up but not like I was trying too hard.
Mike made me feel better the second we stepped in the elevator.
“New lipstick color?”
“Do you like it?”
“I do.”
And then that look.
I should also tell you that one of Mike’s biggest assets (which also doubles as one of his biggest flaws) is the man cannot tell a lie. Even if it’s to save your feelings. So when Mike says he likes your lipstick, HE LIKES YOUR LIPSTICK.
When Revlon contacted me to do a post initially, I was nervous. As I get older, I am less and less a fan of taking pictures of my face. “Do I have to show before pictures? How close-up do they want them? What if I don’t look pretty in the pics? I’m not Emma Stone, you know!”
But when I saw the photos, I was so pleasantly surprised. First of all, the Gladiolus doesn’t look overdone at all. It looks tasteful and fabulous. Secondly, I totally saw the me who Mike met almost ten years ago on our first date.
I can see the Mike I met that day too.
Looking at our pictures, I feel like we don’t look nearly as different or as old as I have begun to imagine in my head. That in itself is a gift.
Maybe I should wear bright red lipstick more often.
Today, I’m giving away one Revlon prize pack to one lucky winner.
The prize pack includes Revlon HD lipstick in Gladiolus which uses wax-free gel technology that provides true color clarity and rich texture in one smooth swipe, for a feel that’s lighter on the lips than traditional lipsticks.

On our last date night I was sick and had a sore back so we just dropped the kids off with my sister, picked up some takeout, and watched Mockingjay at home. It was awesome!
My husband and I only get out a few times a year, but last weekend was one of those rare experiences, and it sure was fun! The university we live near was having an annual ball, combined with a 50 year anniversary of their fine arts building, with performances and refreshments galore. We got dressed in our formal best, and I usually only wear makeup once weekly, but really went all out that night! I felt so fancy and we had so much fun, and I really connected with the man I once knew before the stresses we have in our lives now. Priceless.

We have weekly date nights outside on our back porch, we drink wine and just chat.
Sadly, our last “date night” was a wedding last May. We always hate asking people to babysit – we feel guilty. So we never do. I guess we’re overdue!

We try to have lunch dates during the week: the kids are at school so no babysitter needed!
Our last date night was February 28th and we went to see our favorite 70’s cover band, Yacht Rock Revue. We had a great meal and yummy local beer. The downside was all the younger people at the show who weren’t even alive in the 70’s. They were drunk and spilling beer on everyone, so that was annoying. I think we need a date night without drunk 23-year-olds.
Our last date night was last weekend. We dropped our 1.5yr son off with my grandma and went to a nearby casino. My bf won $300 in 45mins so we left, picked up our son early (we planned to have a few drinks), and we all went home. We put our son to bed and had some drinks and realized how happy we are and why we love each other and our son so much.:) Love your blog I read it every day just to let Mazzy and Harlow brighten my day!
i tweeted. and the last time we went on a date we were all set for a big night out, and settled at a bowling alley with a pitcher of beer & matching shoes. it was the best. we have a 2 year old & my husband works nights for the nypd, so days (or nights together) are few and far between. i know “the look” and i crave it. loved this post!
Our last date night, you say? Without the baby? Well that would have to be before March 2014, and I certainly can’t remember the last time we dressed up to go out. This would be so refreshing, I do hope I get it!! Money is a little too tight lately for makeup, but boy does it make me feel luxurious to wear it. That color looks perfect by the way 🙂
Our last date “night” was Valentine’s Day. I’m 7 months pregnant and have on bed rest for the past almost 2 with a very high-risk pregnancy, so I look back on that day fondly! We got dressed up and went to an afternoon happy hour at our favorite tequila bar. I had a virgin pomegranate margarita and so, so many ancho-chile wings. I had heartburn for days, but it was so worth it!
And tweeted!
Every other weekend my husband and I go out. I love getting dressed up and having his eyes bug out. <3 him
Aaannd, I just tweeted, too.
last year before Chanukah!!
Our last date night was this week. We love to try new and unique restaurants!
Already a subscriber and fan, already tweeted you and the last ‘date’ night my husband and I had was Thursday night when we sat and watched Mike Rowe’s new show together while the kids were in Disney on a band trip. Prior to that, I can’t remember the last time we went out together on a date.
Tweeted just now, here is the second comment because I’m not all that good at following directions.

My last date night was TWO Hunger Games movies ago. Yep. We tend to do date nights IN since it’s way easier, but we end up just reading in bed and passing out from exhaustion instead.
Ahhh, romance.
Our last date night was St Patrick’s day for a late jiggs dinner! We try to have one once a month, but I don’t think it’s going to happen this month.
Tweeted, too. @seelyndseyrun
We went to Whole Foods for happy hour, Meijers to grocery shop and then out for ice cream. Easy peasy.
Tweeted as well!

Date night? What’s that? It’s been so long I honestly can’t remember the last one. I think hubby finally realized it a couple weeks ago, and said we should do one soon. Still waiting and hoping. His work schedule changes a lot and usually at the last minute so it’s hard to plan in advance. We really need to reconnect, and to go out without our toddler for once.
My last date night was with the Mister just before our third baby was born ~ a little girl. That was eight weeks ago now! Can’t believe it’s gone by that fast!
Anyway, the Mister was being slammed at work; a whole bunch of projects had gone up in flames right before Christmas and it was taking more than four months of working late every day, and on weekends, so his company shouted us a date night. We went to a Thai restaurant, and saw Big Hero 6 at the cinema. Turns out that was the last hurrah before our family went from four to five, so I was grateful for the chance to have that date night. 😀 ❤

We actually had date night on Saturday. And I love that lip color!
The last time we went on a date together was to a fancy political fundraiser a couple of weeks ago. Does that count as a date since my mom stayed home with the baby and we took the two-seater car?
I was trying to think of the last time and I think it was Valentines day. My parents watched the littles and we got to go get Chinese food and then just drive around talking and by the time we got home kids were in bed and we got to have a peaceful act 2 of date night!
