As most of my loyal readers now know, over the summer, Harlow took the accidental selfie above, while playing with my phone. That spawned into her @insta2yearold instagram account which went unexpectedly viral last week.
But that actually has nothing to do with this post.
Harlow’s accidental selfie also happened to be the inspiration behind a really fun Instagram contest I’m launching with Munchkin today called #munchkinselfies. Because we’re willing to bet, a lot of your kids have taken accidental selfies too.
Remember for Mother’s Day last year, when I asked mothers to take pictures of themselves with their kids for the chance to win daily prizes awarded to random photos in the hashtag?
This is like the toddler version of that.
Either post a photo your child has already snapped of him/herself tagging #munchkinselfies on Instagram or….
Give your kid your phone, flip the camera so they can see themselves on screen, tell them where to touch to take the pic and have them snap their very own shot.
Otherwise, it wouldn’t be a selfie, right?
I don’t care if it’s blurry, if it only shows their hairline or if it’s a close-up of their nose. I want to see the selfie your child actually takes. You should be nowhere in this picture!
Here are some examples of #munchkinselfies from Harlow:
For the next two weeks, I will be randomly rewarding fourteen of your kiddos in the #munchkinselfies hashtag, one each day, a different prize from Munchkin. All entries must be posted on Instagram to #munchkinselfies tagging and following both @mommyshorts and @munchkininc. You can post one photo to the hashtag per day.
Munchkin makes clever and modern products for kids and babies by anticipating exactly what parents need. I’ve used and trusted Munchkin way before Harlow ever picked up my phone. In fact, I used them when my other daughter (remember Mazzy?) was just a baby.
I should note that since my last post on the Munchkin Miracle 360° Cup, Mazzy has completely abandoned her regular cup in favor of the new cup. She actually refers to it as “the cup that doesn’t spill.” Every time. “Can I have the cup that doesn’t spill, please?” Well, of course you can, Mazzy! Nothing would make me happier! It’s a cup transitioning MIRACLE!
There are fourteen different Munchkin prize packages that will be awarded over the next two weeks, including three gift cards ($25, $50, $100). Click through the slideshow to see what prizes will be rewarded each day.
I will be notifying each daily winner in the comments under their photo and all winners will be announced on the blog on December 2nd. You can read the full rules here.
Now grab your phone, hand it to your kiddo and let them take their very first selfie.
Actually, it’s probably more like their 85th selfie. This will just be the first one you upload to Instagram and don’t immediately delete.
Have fun!

Sophie is the queen of selfies! I went back and tagged a bunch. What a fun activity!
Both of my daughters (Ari, 3 and Lily, 23mo) love selfies! Ari makes different expressions and changes it to black & white. Lol
And I just ordered the munchkin 360 cup after reading this. I didn’t even finish reading before I switched over to amazon to order. We’re having cup transition issues so fingers crossed these help!
What a cute contest (and cute 2-yr-old IG account!)! My children definitely love taking accidental selfies!
Can I tag and hashtag an Instagram photo I posted a few days ago?? My little one just took a perfect selfie….filter and everything!
