I have a confession to make. I’ve never seen a woman giving birth. Yes, I have given birth to two children, but when the doctor asked if I wanted to use a mirror, I said “HELL NO!” They didn’t show a video in my childbirth class and they never showed one in my junior high sex ed class either.
The closest I have ever gotten to viewing childbirth is Knocked Up.
Please tell me I am not the only mother who’s only visual reference of crowning is from a Judd Apatow movie???
I am living in the dark. Even worse, I think I want to remain there.
Anyway, these random guys may never experience the pain of labor like I have, but at least they now know what it looks like…
If you want to see two guys ACTUALLY experience the pain of labor, click here. You are in for a treat.
That’s funny. “Mostly gross but also kinda beautiful.” I like how they didn’t know what to do with their hands while watchinv! I too have never and plan never to witness birth other than having to by virtue of getting the child out my own body. It’s bad enough when it’s you why would you watch someone else going through that? After Baby 3 my husband (science background) asked if I wanted to see the placenta since this was likely our last birthing experience. NO! I have the baby – the ONLY reason to go through that agony and indignity – why would I want to see the grossness when I could be looking at him? So no, you’re not alone. Right there with you.
There was a mirror in the delivery room in case I wanted to watch (which I too had no desire to) but we did put it to use so that I could watch the football game that was on tv while I was in labor. They had the tv in a place where only my husband could watch and I needed the distraction so we angled it just right.
Ha, that was really cute and funny! “A cotton swab – that’s not going to help!” lol. I actually was subjected to the live birth video in 7th grade, so. You know. I guess it never left me. When I was pregnant with Dylan, I made myself watch some birthing videos on Baby Center because I wanted to just have my eyes open and know what to expect. (I tend to be like that, I’d rather tough it out and know, rather than be in the dark and have everything shock the hell out of me when it is happening.) Well, it’s true that they say you can never be prepared though, because after watching all of those vaginal birth videos, I had a C-section at 32 weeks due to severe preeclampsia, and nothing could have prepared me for that. But here’s hoping Baby #2 (due in January) is full-term with no complications and I am hoping for a VBAC! So maybe all the video watching won’t have been for naught.
AHAHAHAHA! Had to send this link to all of my friends who have kids! I especially like the guy with the cup o noodles. Did he really think that one through?
Oh, and I did not want to watch my own children being born either, but I have seen what it looks like via the sex ed movie.
I worked on the maternity floor as an aide and jumped at the chance to assist or observe deliveries, both vaginal and c-section. I found everything so fascinating and interesting. I worked in the ER too, no one wanted to hear about what I saw. But it was one of my favorite jobs.
