Mazzy started out strong but as her first birthday party progressed, she became more and more disinterested, culminating in a dismissal of the deliciousness that is cake. What makes this dismissal even sadder, is that it momentarily caused me to question whether this child was actually mine.
All I wanted was the cake all over the face, sugar-high feuled, insanely big SMILE. I never got it.
Click below for a photo timeline of the birthday party downward spiral.
Mazzy starts out SUPER EXCITED.
That's before she realizes she can't reach the food.
Then she confuses a friend's bag for one of her gifts. (Later, babe, when you can pay for such things yourself).
In lieu of bakery cookies and Louis Vuitton bags, Mazzy settles on a familiar standby— my iPhone.
Mike and I look OK here but Mazzy is clearly miserable. Upon reflection, this downward spiral probably had a lot to do with the beginning stages of MSB (Mazzy's Stomach Bug).
I try my best to bring up Mazzy's enthusiasm for the cake.
"Mom! Get this STUPID hat off me!!!"
First bite. Seems promising.
But that initial curiousity quickly fades into a scene from a Depression Hurts commercial.
Poppy tries to help but Mazzy is not amused.
Then she started wrecking things.
Leading to a full-on Mazzy Meltdown. Which could only mean one thing…
Naptime.
but ‘it all’, and y’all looked gorgeous and stylish and thats what counts 🙂
Ohhhemmmgeee she’s freakin cute. Love her dress!!
Well, her dress was fabulous! Just get used to it, Ilana, kids never perform when you need them to. Except when you least expect them to, and then it makes up for everything else! Ain’t motherhood grand?? Happy Birthday Mazzy!!
That’s not the dress. That dress was actually a gift from Mike’s co-worker. She will be wearing “THE dress” this weekend at the “family-only” birthday party. My place is not big enough for EVERYONE.
Thank you kindly:)
Miserable or not, Mazzy is nothing if not adorable:) Thanks!
Nothing like a stomach bug to put a damper on a party.
My little Diva had the same hat at her 1st birthday party, but she was cooperative about the cake photos – I’m convinced she cooperated because we had it outside and she is in heaven outside.
My DS on his 1st birthday was very uncooperative, much like Mazzy – he hated getting dirty from the frosting and looks terrified of his cupcake in the photos – before getting very mad at it.
He ate his cupcake for his 2nd birthday with a fork.
Now at 3.5 messes don’t bother him. At all. Dammit.
She is absolutely adorable
The look she gave Poppy is priceless.
If the moral of this story is that Mazzy doesn’t like to get messy, then as far as I am concerned, it has a HAPPY ENDING.
I am forever amazed that your life looks like the pages of “Real Simple” magazine. That perfect “clean” with a touch of taste. Happy Birthday sweet girl! Your dress rocks!
Your life can look like a magazine shoot too if you take 1000 photographs and only use five of them.
What a cutie! Sorry she wasn’t all up in the spirit of partying down. Hope she feels better!
Okay seriously. This post is HILARIOUS! Love it. I am sorry that she had a downward spiral into sickness, but seriously, she is SO cute and that dress is awesome. And the party looks great! I really hope she starts to feel better soon. LOVE!
Aww.. That is the most cute post ever! Love the pics and the captions as well!! Happy Birthday to Mazzy again!
Happy birthday Mazzy… Gosh I’m late, I know, I’m sorry
I’m catching up with all the good posts I’ve missed
Bisous to little Mazzy xx
No babies in Depression Hurts. Sorry.
Joesph turned one too and on the exact same day!
He cried, screamed yelled, and chewed on his favorite thing, my I Phone.
Then the cake smash got him messy and he smushed it in Poppy’s face.
Then he began to have Jm (Joey’s meltdown) and was put in his crib.
