Today I’m bringing back one of my all-time favorite series— the Picky Eaters Club! I’ve got Olly Vitamins as the club’s new sponsor and they are awarding the parent of one Picky Eater a $750 Target gift card, so this club is NO JOKE.
But before I begin inducting new members and talking about my recent Olly obsession, I thought it would be nice to revisit our two founding members, none other than MY CHILDREN— Mazzy and Harlow.
What ridiculously frustrating eating habits have they each developed since this time last year? Which mealtime quirks are still alive, well and getting worse?
I’ll let Mazzy and Harlow take the floor so they can speak freely about their issues. As we all know, admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery.
And just because this actually happened last night….
Thankfully, the pizza place was only a block away from home.
Do you have kids who could join Mazzy and Harlow in the Picky Eaters Club?
Of course you do.
Today, I have two opportunities to win big prizes from Olly.
1) If you submit your photos on the Mommy Shorts Facebook Page or on Instagram with the hashtag #pickyeatersclub, tagging/following @mommyshorts and @ollynutrition, you will be entered to win one of six $50 Target gift cards plus a selection of Olly products. Make sure you include your child’s first name and picky eating habit in your caption.
2) To enter to win a $750 Target gift card along with the entire Olly line, just submit your email in the widget at the end of this post.
Yes, you heard that right— $750 to spend at Target, where you will find Olly on the shelves among Target’s Made to Matter products.
Olly is a complete collection of vitamins and supplements with names like Beauty, Energy and Bones, so they don’t require a magnifying glass or a PhD in Chemistry to understand.
Each gummy and softgel are packed with super effective complex nutrients, in an expertly blended dose of exactly what your body needs to thrive. But the best part is that Olly vitamins are colorful and delicious with all-natural fun flavors that make them seriously a delight to take.
My family has been taking Olly Vitamins for the past month and WE LOVE THEM. I take Beauty, Bones, Immunity and the Women’s Multi and Mike takes Energy, Sleep and the Men’s Multi. The kids take the Kid’s Multi, obviously. Instead of reluctantly choking down some horse pills, chewing our gummies at the end of the day has become something we look forward to like dessert.
A delicious grapefruit flavored gummy that’s good for my skin, hair and nails??? A berry gummy that’s good for my bones? I will gladly take those every day of the week. After all, the best way to remember to take your vitamins, is to ACTUALLY WANT to take your vitamins.
I’ll be featuring your picky eaters and announcing the six secondary winners in future posts. The grand prize winner will be announced on July 10th. Remember to enter in the widget below!
You can read the full rules here.
GOOD LUCK!!!

This post was sponsored by Olly, but my newfound obsession with their vitamins is totally my own.
Oh man. The egg thing. My son does the same thing. He thinks he loves eggs- he will carry them around the house if I don’t watch him and he gets the carton, he loves pointing them out i the fridge, he constantly asks me to make them. We have tried every type of cooking the egg possible and he will not eat them. It’s very frustrating.
Mandarin oranges are her favorite. But seedless. And by seedless, I mean never had a seed, not take the seeds out. Because SHE WILL KNOW.
My girl, Hope, won’t eat anything unless someone else bites it first or is eating the same food. Meaning that, even though she loves it, I can’t get her to eat oatmeal unless Daddy is home because it makes me gag.
Haha my 16m old will only eat eggs if I make them, if mommy makes them it’s all over! She has to see who made them as well, she’s a character.
Ooo finally a vitamin I MIGHT get our Cheeks girl to eat!
WE HAVE A LITTLE GUY(JUST TURNED 6) WHO WILL ONLY EAT INSTANT OATMEAL. I MAKE AN AMAZING STOVE TOP SPICED APPLE OATMEAL THAT HE REFUSES TO EVEN PUT IN HIS MOUTH. HIS LITTLE BROTHER AND SISTER ASK TO SLEEP OVER JUST SO I’LL MAKE IT FOR THEM.
My daughter loves pickles, but not pickle “crusts” we get to cut off the edges of each pickle
My daughter will not eat the skins on any fruit or vegetable…but she’ll at least eat around it so I don’t have to peel everything, which is fine until you realize how much of the food is wasted because she cannot bite too close to the edge last her mouth become contaminated with a piece of peel! She hates peas and refuses to eat them – unless they’re still in the pods and we call them beans.
Am I really the only one who just says “fine, don’t eat it”? I make what I make or we go where we go and if you don’t want that? I won’t force you to eat it but you may just go to bed hungry or after only eating applesauce. Throw all the fits you want but no. I am not a short order cook.
I agree Beth, my answer to stuff like this is, Here is supper, you can eat it or you can be hungry. You decide. Most of the time, he eats.
Big nope. Here’s the food. Eat. Or don’t. You won’t starve until the next meal comes around, I promise. And if you’re extra hungry for the next meal, I guess you’ll eat what is prepared for everyone! Whining or crying changes nothing but your location (to your room!). And absolutely no treats in between if the meals are not eaten. Tiny amounts are put on the plate, and you eat what is there if you want goodies later. Guilt doesn’t work on me, kid. I refuse to cater or to bribe. To me, what they are learning is that they are in charge. They can be the boss when are adult enough to make healthy decisions and start to pay for their own needs.
My title is M.O.M. – which sometimes stands for Mean Old Mom. 😀
Apparently you have no problem being woken up at 3 am by starving toddlers ;). I am usually very “take it or leave it” with my kids but that doesn’t mean it works! She’s finding the humor in the crazy things little kids do, lighten up ladies and stop judging.
definitely not the only one! making kids special meals just because they don’t like something is creating/enabling picky eating.
Nope. My kid is now 15 and eats what is made. Thankfully she’s now old enough if she decides she doesn’t want it, she can make her own darn PBJ sammich. And I can eat hot food! But she RARELY does that. She likes her parent’s cooking!
When she was little and didn’t want what was made, I usually either made her eat it anyway or she got a cold pbj instead of a hot meal. As in, I’d pull it out of the fridge because I’d make like 3 at a time and stick them in there!
My three year old will only drink her milk if it’s been warmed up in a mug of water that’s been heated up in a microwave for 3 minutes, nothing less.
I don’t have any kids, but when I was young, I refused to eat my meal if any of the foods touched each other. I’m 49 now, and I still don’t like it very much, but I WILL eat it…most of the time. ???? Also, if there’s the tiniest bit of eggshell in my egg, it will make me gag uncontrollably. I may be almost 50, but apparently I’m still pretty immature.
All veggies must be raw (but she will even eat raw asparagus so I’m not complaining). All bread must be “toasted, but not buttered”. But she won’t actually eat dry toast so you have to butter it in secret when she’s not looking.
Your girls are hilarious!! I love all of Harlow’s sunglasses, precious!
I realize that this may cause a battle or two but they might be behaving like this because you allow it. Stop catering to such behaviours and they’ll stop happening.
It’s times like this that I wish cellphones were invented sooner.I could have properly documented all the weird food issues we had with our 3 boys. I have a 23 yr old that would not eat anything unless it was white (potatoes and pasta, plain nothing on it were big deal that year). My Middle only ate orange things (I had to get creative with a little food coloring at times just to “create” things he would eat) and my youngest who just turned 14 just ate bread for the first time last yr. Not even a hotdog bun passed his lips before then. He is a chicken fan, strips, nuggets, baked, grilled etc but that is it. No other meats. His plate usually just has chicken on it. He won’t touch a veggie. Even fruit is a struggle. He has gotten better the past few months…I am hoping he grows out of it like his brothers did. They now will eat anything not nailed down.
I have a 9 year old daughter that I would love to give those vitamins to, but SHE WON’T EVEN EAT GUMMIES!
My daughter Lucy loves cantelope…out at a restaurant. It is the only part of a side of fruit that she will eat, but if I buy one and cut it up at home, she will not touch it
I think my daughter Allie may be a future wine connoisseur…her favorite thing to eat is Babybel cheese, but you have to call it circle cheese, and grapes or berries.
I have one child who would eat garbanzo beans from a can, fresh steamed Brussel sprouts, and every fruit known to man. Then I have another child who only wants hot dogs, microwave popcorn, and pistachios. Why can’t there just be a happy medium?
My Daughter will not eat “Pot Roast” but she will eat “Reindeer Meat” because she loves Frozen!
I really wish you would open this up to yours Canadian followers. I only live an hour from the US border.
My son will not finish a meal on his own plate. He eats half off his plate and then will eat the other half off my plate.
I have a son who won’t eat potatoes. He used to lolo French fries, until he found out it was a potato product. Now he won’t touch them. He also only eats chicken or fish. Brown chicken is okay (beef or pork).

My son loves tomatoes, but only raw & unprocessed. If he sees ketchup or tomato sauce on his plate, he will cry.
I’m sorry but you actually went home from a restaurant to get food for your child?! That’s absolutely ridiculous and you are raising those children to walk all over you. Can you imagine how they will act when they are older?!
That would be the day I would leave the restaurant to go home to get food for my child because they didn’t like what was at the restaurant.
even though i find these funny to read….i totally agree.
My son will eat any meat as long as you call it chicken or steak! However, we have started the ‘eat what’s in front of you or go hungry’. And he has chosen to go hungry a few times.
@Vicki my son is 15 years old and he still calls all the meat chicken. Lol because of you say fish or pork chops or steak he says that’s nasty according to him he only eats chicken either the light one or the brown one the brown one with the steak , but I like to get info about some vitamins for him not the healthy teenager you want him to be when he was a baby it was so much easier he would eat anything but as he gets older it gets harder on me because according to him his friends don’t eat it because its nasty and then goes for him so I need some good vitamins !
She’s very athletic – love to play sports has had fractures so I’m looking forward to some bone vitamins was calcium 4 him now let’s see how that goes !
My 3.5 year old only eats 5 things: cheese, Kraft dinner, grilled cheese sandwiches, apple sauce and bagel and cream cheese. So basically cheese with carbs and a little apple sauce thrown in for good measure. She’s never met a vegetable that was allowed into her mouth. My 12 month old son has more veggies in a day than my daughter’s had in 3 years. And it’s not for lack of trying. Argh!

Kid 2 wants meat sauce with his pasta at Olive Garden, but you need to take the meat out of the sauce before he’ll eat it. If you get tomato sauce he won’t have it. It has to be meat.
