Giveaway: Oreck VersaVac vacuum cleaner and steam mop ($250)
Before I had a kid, I mainly pulled out the vacuum to make sure the fibers of my carpet were all going in the same direction. I'm sure I dropped a potato chip every now and then, but that's about it.
I don't remember ever eating cereal on my couch, deciding I didn't want it, then turning the full bowl upside down to prove my point. I also don't think I ever poured myself a glass of orange juice and then hurled it across the kitchen because it wasn't apple. Or put a cracker on the carpet and then crushed it with my foot just for the hell of it.
These things are just not done by adults living on their own.
But once grown people add a toddler to their living arrangements, it's a whole other story— remember the kids up top?
I've always had a broom, a vacuum, a dust buster, a mop, a swiffer and something called a "swivel sweeper" all crammed into my tiny utility closet ready to spring into action when necessary. Cereal spilled in the kitchen— get the broom; cereal spilled on the rug— get the dustbuster; cereal and milk spilled in the kitchen— what happened to all the paper towels???; cereal and milk spilled on the rug— buy a new rug!
My utility closet is small and also contains my washer and dryer, so I usually have to take everything out to get the item I need. Attempting to get them all back in is a story that doesn't always have a happy ending…
Act I: I shove everything inside.
Act II: I close the door as quickly as possible.
Act III: Everything comes crashing down on me the next time I need to open the door.
With all this in mind, I was very excited when Oreck contacted me to do a review and giveaway of their new VersaVac— a vacuum cleaner and steam mop in one. They promised I would be able to do away with my broom, my dust bin, my mop and my bucket because the multi-tasking VersaVac can be used on all floor surfaces— including carpet, wood, tile and stone.
The VersaVac is very streamlined (as you can see above), but still has the same strong suctioning ability of a much larger vacuum. Plus, it's bagless (you just empty a removable canister and snap it back in place) which makes things even easier and is great for the environment.
It easily transitions from vacuum to steam mop by using a snap-on steam plate and filling a small removable tank with water at the sink. You can use a low setting for sealed hard wood floors and a higher setting for kitchen tile. So you can vacuum the crushed cracker out of your carpet and then two seconds later, use the same apparatus to get the sticky patches of badly cleaned-up juice off your kitchen tile. Making cleaning your home, if you feel the need to do such a thing, take much less time.
My only complaint is it doesn't have a hose attachment like my old vacuum so I would still hang on to my dustbuster to clean my crumb-filled couch.
Today, Oreck is giving away one VersaVac ($250) to one lucky reader.
Just follow the giveaway rules below and maybe the next time your child ends a crafting project by ceremoniously dumping a cup of glitter on your throw rug, you'll be excited to test out your new vacuum instead of wondering if you can trade your child in for an upgrade.

I received a VersaVac in exchange for this post but as always, the opinions are my own. Oreck Corporation provided the prize for the sweepstakes but is not the sponsor of the sweepstakes.
Of all the messes my six kids made, breaking the beanbag chair has to be the worst. Its impossible to clean that up.
I love that you can steam and vacuum at the same time.
My favorite feature is that it is a bagless vac but also a steam mop! That’s great! I think the biggest mess the kiddos have made is spilling my craft sand all over my craft room. But it was easy to clean up so it wasn’t too bad!

I liked on facebook, and my messy story was when my son demanded that he learn to pour his own juice, it was messy each and everytime starting with the whole pitcher to dripples. he also liked to help bake and wow the messy kitchen afterwards was a chore.
My favorite feature is the steam cleaner as well.

I remember when the big bag if dog food tore open and fell to the floor.
I like on FB – Breanne T. I don’t have any kids or nieces/nephews or nothing so I haven’t experienced that yet! I love that it’s a vacuum and steam mop.
I had just finished planting some seeds in a large planter. I turned my back to go wash my hands. When I came back, my little girl was sitting in the middle of the planter, with dirt all over her face, and – you guessed it – potting soil scattered for 3 feet in every direction. The look on her face was too precious for me to get mad at her.
I really like that this vacuum is also a steam mop. I’m your fan on facebook.
subscriber, i love that it works on carpet and hard floor, we have a dog and she is a mess on floors
I think the worst mess was when my daughter turned on the faucet in the bathtub and forgot about it and it overflowed and we were cleaning up water for hours afterwards off the floor.
When my bulldog was a puppy, he would often projectile vomit everywhere at least once a day. It was horrible. My favorite feature is how this vacuum vacuums and steams at the same time. I need this. Desperately. Because although the bulldog is not a pup, he is so messy, and we now have a female bulldog, not to mention a house full of kids. My house would be the oreck versavac’s dream!

My kinder puked up milk and cereal all over a fabric chair. Not her fault, but that chair was destroyed.
I like that it eliminates the need for multiple cleaning tools!

When our daughters were little they took a plastic container of flour from the pantry & spilled it on the living room carpet.
We like the 30 foot cord & the 2-year limited warranty !
I am a Facebook fan. Our daughter dropped a plate of spaghetti on the carpet. Our dog spread it everywhere. My favorite feature is it is bagless.
The biggest mess was when cake was dropped onto the carpet then stepped in.
One of the biggest messes I think I ever had to clean up-was not even 5 minutes after putting the jello in the refrigerator my son decided to pull it out to see if it was done-since the bowl was bigger/heavier then him it splashed in the kitchen like a tidal wave hit and it stained the floor and wall. I swear after years I am still cleaning it off of things.
I like the fact that the ” VersaVac” can be one in all-where was this years ago??? I like I can go from vacuuming to mopping in a matter of minutes with one machine.Awesome!!
I tweeted the giveaway @ shanonlisa.
