Since Ilana is really busy with her book lately, this is Mike. I’m going to take over the blog until she releases her book in late September. If you like Ilana’s self-effacing humor, well, that sucks, because my humor is very different. It’s more like an “I do everything the right way and if you don’t do it my way, you’re an idiot” kind of humor. Hilarious, right?

I also don’t take great pictures and I can’t style Mazzy’s hair to save my life. But these are not the things that make a good parent. Don’t tell Ilana I said that though.

For my first blog post, I would like to talk about a trip to DC that I took with Mazzy over the past couple of days.

You might think the trip was for the purpose of teaching Mazzy about U.S. history and government with visits to places like the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, and the Treasury Building, but that’s not really why I took her. I mean, we saw all those places but I didn’t really find it necessary to take pictures of them.

You see, I don’t have a blog (until now) so I make my entertainment by texting photos of my daughter to my friends in front of all the places we used to go while we were in college. Did I mention I went to college in DC?

For instance, here’s a photo of my daughter in front of my post college apartment that I texted to my old roommate:

And here’s a photo of Mazzy in front of the Improv where my best friend used to work in college. I texted that to him as well.

Also, I have a college friend who still lives in DC. Even though he happened to be away on vacation while we were visiting, that didn’t stop me from taking Mazzy to his office so I could text him a picture of her sitting at his desk.

Do you see how this is really fun?

For my wife, I texted her a photo of Mazzy after she spent a good hour walking me through how to make a half ponytail over the phone. I think I did a pretty good job!

Sure, it fell out halfway through the day so that the one photo I took of Mazzy at the Space Museum came out with her hair hanging in her face, but does that really matter in the scheme of things?

And yes, I only took one photo at the Space Museum. We saw a space shuttle and an astronaut uniform and tons of cool stuff but it just didn’t occur to me to take any pictures. As I said, the blog will be a lot different now that I am the one in charge of posting content.

You can count on photos of Mazzy at dinner that look like this:

We went to the zoo too but I didn’t really think Mazzy needed to be in the photos. I took one photo of a gorilla instead.

Do you really need any other photos from the zoo? I don’t think so.

Here’s Mazzy at a coffee shop because I needed a cup of coffee. The White House might be outside that window.

Or it might not. I really have no idea.

Here’a a shot of the Washington Monument. I tucked Mazzy’s shirt into her leggings because that seemed like the proper thing to do.

You might be wondering why Mazzy is wearing a helmet. This is because we both took our scooters so we could cover more ground around the city. It was AWESOME. But I don’t have any photos of us on the scooters. I do have one 14 minute video of us on our scooters that I shot on my Go-pro but beyond uploading it to my computer, I don’t really see myself doing anything with it. Who has time for that?

Here’s a photo of Mazzy in front of the Cherry Blossoms. If you look really hard, you can see the Washington Monument back there.

Mazzy and I had an amazing time. I don’t need the photos to prove we had an amazing time. Unless they are photos that my college buddies would find amusing. Those I will take all day long.

I hope you like this new blog philosophy and I look forward to writing the blog along with posting photos of locations that remind me of my youth for the next seven months when Ilana’s book comes out in September!

This post was actually written by me (Ilana) after asking Mike to show me the photos from his trip. The book is taking up a lot of my time but don’t worry, I’ll still be here blogging (almost) daily. Happy April Fool’s Day, everyone!
