Taking your kid to work sounds like a lovely idea. They get to see where you go everyday when you’re not with them. You get to show them how you earn the paycheck that feeds your family and puts a roof over your heads. You get to show them cool stuff like elevators, copy machines and an antiquated novelty item called a “three-hole punch”.

Most importantly, you get to show your kids off to your co-workers so that your long-winded stories detailing their mundane milestones might seem a smidgen more interesting.

But let’s be real. Unless your job is “zookeeper” or “running back,” what you’re really doing is sticking them in front of an iPad while you attempt to get 1/8 of the work done you would on a normal day.
