Taking your kid to work sounds like a lovely idea. They get to see where you go everyday when you’re not with them. You get to show them how you earn the paycheck that feeds your family and puts a roof over your heads. You get to show them cool stuff like elevators, copy machines and an antiquated novelty item called a “three-hole punch”.
Most importantly, you get to show your kids off to your co-workers so that your long-winded stories detailing their mundane milestones might seem a smidgen more interesting.
But let’s be real. Unless your job is “zookeeper” or “running back,” what you’re really doing is sticking them in front of an iPad while you attempt to get 1/8 of the work done you would on a normal day.

I conveniently have a pretty laid back workplace and my boss is okay with my one year old daughter coming in some times when my husband and have schedules that conflict and overlap for 15-30 minutes. One day, she ended up sitting on my coworkers lap and dropping paper clips on at a time onto the floor mat that protects the carpet from the chair wheels. She laughed hysterically every time one hit the floor. Needless to say, not a lot got done that day.
Another day, another coworker gave her a brightly wrapped chocolate that she carried around until I picked her up and realized the chocolate had melted through the wrapper and she smeared a baby hand print all over my shirt. We left early that day.
All of these things are multiplied for the worse when you work at home!

such funny photos, but for me, if I bring my kids to work it will be a disaster
